“the water is freezing, just a warning.” nick offered to the person who neared the edge of the pool next to him as he tossed his towel over his shoulder. he’d only stuck a foot in, but that was enough for him to change his mind on the whole swimming thing.
“thank fuck i’m only catching the sun.” annie twirled hair between her fingers, trying hard to be subtle. the last thing she needed was for her fuck me eyes to be too obvious. she was subtle, goddamn it, or... she could at least pretend to be. but this guy was hot, so hot she could cry, and it was a fucking shame he was keeping his clothes on.
don’t really have time to churn out intros right now, but here is a synopsis of my n00bs:
annie (dj - barbie ferreira) was adopted by an uber wealthy family when she was a baby. it was fine. she was a rebel, hated listening to them. kept running away. loved music and started spinning. to pay the bills, she did some cam work. fell in love with sierra, but is a terrible person who’s afraid of commitment, so she cheated. she’s cheated on every person she’s ever dated. not a dick, just... is really good at self-preservation.
star (bartender - alissa violet) is a “lay it all out there” person. she loves love a whole lot, but never really wanted to do anything with her life. met and married a guy when she was 18 (they’re still married, and i’ll make a wc soon) and she values her position as a trophy wife. she gets bored easily, though, which shouldn’t really make much sense, but does. bartends here because it entertains her.
so let me know if you want to flesh out some things here! mwah.

malaya was in the bar, enjoying her friday night. the girl had no care in the world like usual. she finished her classes for the day and didn’t have to think about school or anything till monday. her parents left her with their card to do whatever she wanted to do with it, and it led to her getting a little too drunk. “next round is on me.” she shouted with a smile.
star’s eyes darted down the length of the bar, and the number of people who were lined up. eyebrows knitting slightly, she called back, “are you sure?? there are like... thirty people sitting at the bar, and not all of them are drinking cheap.” star wondered momentarily if she should cut the girl off (no sober person offered to take care of the next round), but maybe the girl really was that generous.

I remember that! I think there was a 48 Hours on that one.

in all reality, how much trouble would she actually get in? probably not much but leah was a nervous type person and the mere thought of trouble had her in tangles. “fine, fine, as long as you keep your promise.” a drink sounded incredible, even if she was only 20, underaged drinking was one of the few things leah did not care about, oddly enough. “whisky is always too strong for me.” and gave her a headache, leah preferred her stupid wine coolers, or anything that wasn’t strong. a small laugh came from her lips, a true sign that she was relaxing. “they are huge, i actually hate needing to clean them, but i’ve gotten out of it all week.” trading with the newer staff only worked for so long. leah walked over to the fridge and glanced through it, spotting a little pink drink in a bottle and deciding it looked harmless before pulling it out and popping the top off.
“i never promise things i can’t follow through on.” felix stepped away from the refrigerator as the girl approached, giving her room to shuffle through it. the whisky was on a small table, which he cracked the lid off of and poured into a glass. he’d worked enough hours (at least they were billable) and stretching his legs was precisely what he needed. “don’t worry about cleaning mine,” he said, making a small gesture. “i never understood the whole point of cleaning rooms every day. turn down services doesn’t exactly suck, but it’s not like it’s a do-or-die kind of thing. more of a perk than a necessity, and i don’t know.”
felix was awkward. he’d always been awkward. he jokingly said sometimes that he’d grown out of his looks as he’d aged. he didn’t see himself as attractive as the other men who flaunted their muscles and chiseled jaws. felix had his work, and that had been enough. he often wondered if he would get laid at all were it not for the escort service here. as such, his powers of conversation, when the conversations weren’t about plea deals or during cross-examination, were close to nil. his parents would be so disappointed. so the least stupid thing, which was incredibly stupid, that he could think of to say was, “i like your hair.”

sapphire: i think it is an important court case about the rights of students to peaceful protest something they are against like war. and i can see what some of my dc connects have on it and send it your way.
Felix: that would be fucking amazing. working on something and it's important jurisprudence, but the case was YEARS ago. trying to shepardize but i feel like i'm going blind and i'm darting through too many rabbit holes.
Felix: i hate appeals. if i could just stick to trial level, i'd be set.
Felix: since my eyes are burning and i obviously need a break, do you want to meet up? have a drink somewhere? my treat.

“Oh now you’re speaking my language!” Dahlia grinned. “God, how I’ve longed to find someone almost as careless as me. Either that or I’d say you’re trying to impress me. It’s all working the same.”
responsibility was not lottie’s strong point, and she left dahlia briefly in order to purchase the bottle of tequila, two shot glasses. when she returned, shot glasses in one hand, bottle in the other, she waved them a bit. “let’s take this outside. it’s quieter.”

Serena: no worries, babe, you know I’ll help with whatever
Serena: i’ll try my hardest, can’t make any promises
Dom: idk it just seems like there's a lot of shit going on and no one is doing anything
Dom: need you for intel okay?

“and clearly something you love and hate.” he found himself responding, be he supposed that was most jobs, at least if you were lucky. nick had the opposite problem, he wanted to work and was told he couldn’t, and he also got to do mostly whatever he wanted. then again, whatever he wanted usually entailed living in a very dangerous environment all for a few pictures. “terrible? i’d say not as bad as being bothered by work when you don’t want to be.” even if he didn’t know better, he had enough sense to expect that to not be fun. though nicholas found himself laughing, because she was not wrong. “you want to know something horrible? i didn’t even tell my mother when i was engaged before, because of her meddling.” he replied, more laughter falling through his lips at the horrible secret before reaching up with his glass, “a toast i can fully support.”
“it’s the source of my amusement and self-adversarial...ness.” the line was a thin one, but mercury liked to think that she straddled it, between coping with the feeling that she would never get what she wanted, and paying the bills and nurturing the next class of dancers. “work is work,” mercury added with something of a shrug. “at least if it follows me, i can shut it down.” he told her about his engagement, during which time, unfortunately, mercury had her glass poised to her lips. she let out a quick snort of a laugh, which sent some champagne flying from the edges of the glass. mercury wiped her mouth quickly, trying to hide her lack of grace, and eagerly tipped her glass to his. “you’re fun. i’m glad i sat down here. i’m mercury, and i think you may be my new best friend.”

“it better, i mean, i’m paying quite a lot of money to be here. and if they don’t have almost everything they will get some complaints from me.” she said to him. “what do you recommend around here?” she asked.
“i like how you just say whatever you’re thinking.” brendan let out a breathy laugh. “i’m sure aftershock would welcome your feedback, but they pretty much thought of everything. “i don’t know if it’s your speed, but a perfect night is just going to the club, finding a corner, and staying in it. prime people watching.” but brendan also recognized that it was far more passive than many people were into.

He should have backed away. Should have done the right thing and broke the contact that was making the front of the gym shorts he wore tent against the curvature of Persephone’s ass. But he couldn’t. There was something magnetic in testing these waters he’d been curious about for far too long. She felt too warm and soft. Smelled too good. And the sound of her breathing and the strain in her voice held him fast. “You’re doing nothing wrong and everything right, Seph,” he muttered, reaching to fit his fingers between hers atop the papers that were no longer the subject of anything said. Or felt. “The last thing I want to do is make a mess of everything you’ve made here.” The syllables came in hot breaths that stuck to her neck. “Unless that’s what you want.”
she was breathless and somehow terrified, mainly of how much she wanted brad, how she’d never really realized it until this moment, and now it was the only thing she could think about. had another thought ever passed through her head? persephone couldn’t pin it down. knuckles lifted so her fingers could thread through his and she wound them around for the contact. her eyes fluttered closed though she didn’t move a muscle otherwise. what if he didn’t want her to feel the bulge in his pants, intrusive and somehow inviting, and she moved enough that it became clear that she knew and then it was suddenly awkward? “i need to shower,” she finally said, because the last thing seph wanted was for the scent of the sweat of other men to infiltrate the bubble she and brad were creating. she hesitated, maybe too long, before she found the bravery to ask, “Do you want to come?”
