I have no recollection of being into lorde at all but I listened to pure heroine and knew every song and even had that thing where the next song automatically starts in your head because you're just that familiar with the tracklist. so either I was really into it and forgot or gay people mk ultraed me
if you lived in a yuppie city in the 2010s you've heard multi-love by the unknown mortal orchestra more than you've seen your mother's face

revisiting some of my favorite albums from over a decade ago and just... jesus wow
woof if you find colour green at 14..... baby you're not gonna make it
I'm making a you're-a-weird-girl-in-eigth-grade-in-the-early-2010s playlist and I'm being fake as fuck cus I'm leaving halsey off I'm sorry but I don't know how to fit her in with julia holter and marika hackman and fka twigs. also I'm not putting kanye or jayz on there for obvious reasons so that's also faaaaaake
Subway riders by Susan Sermonetta, April 2006.
if your shit looked like this in the early 2010s I see you weird girl!!!!!
this shit went triple platinum for 14 year old me btw this next to deep green by maricka hackman and winter is all over you by first aid kit, those got me in a zone all together
these are the most prominent albums I can remember from when I was a kid up until I figure out how to find music myself at around 11/12, with the exception of a dvorak cd I haven't found yet. the shrek soundtrack isn't here for reasons of ubiquity but trust the eels album is there bcus of it and also the mia albums are there bcus my mom liked slumdog millionaire. moby comes about similarly because she loved jason bourne, and beautiful mind is there because she liked a beautiful mind if you can make such a mental leap. my mom is actually the reason for almost all of these except for beyonce and alicia keys (radio), eels (shrek as previously mentioned), and the beatles (my grandma + my awesome gay music teacher in elementary school). honorable mention to the mad world cover from the donnie darko soundtrack which I was banned from playing bcus I beat it into the ground. also fun fact the first time I heard bill withers was in bernie mac when nessas waiting for her mom in chicago because it was running like 24/7 in my house since the beginning of time
I'm putting together 25 albums that I remember most from when I was a kid (like up to age 11 before I start actually figure out how to find music by myself on youtube and itunes) and it's really fun but also looking at these albums all together I'm like oh wow there's like a straight line between these and my current taste. like almost everything I like now is in some way introduced to me this early on and on one hand I KNOW that's how taste works but it is wild to see it one right after the other like this. like yeah I love ambient, neoclassical, rnb, and soft rock and guess what all is here
