“I suggest their holiday special. I had two of them yesterday, and it was amazing.” Lex smiled as she stepped around the nice woman. “Trying to do anything at this time of year grows ridiculous. I haven’t even done my holiday shopping yet so I’m basically screwed.”
“As long as it’s not decaf, I’ll take that advice, I think. As for shopping I’m mostly just hoping to get my money’s worth out of that Prime account and desperately order whatever the kids want these days with 48 hours to spare. And possibly pay my assistant extra to wrap them for me. Or- definitely pay him extra to wrap things, I’m not subjecting anyone to my wrapping skills.”
“Fuck, I’m going to be late.” Lex looked at the line winding to the restaurant counter. There were at least three people ahead of her. “Excuse me, can I cut in front of you? I have to be to work in 5 minutes, and it’s going to take most of that for them to make my food.”
Fifteen emails and she wasn’t even supposed to be in the office for forty-five minutes, good damn lord. A voice cut through the fog of busy, and she wasn’t paying enough attention to hear what that girl was saying, but it was fairly obvious what the gist was. “Of course, go right ahead, I’m not quite sure what I want yet as it is. I swear, every year it’s crazy busy here around the holidays and every year I’m not quite prepared for it.”
