Life amongst the darkest nights

Autumn has arrived in Finland and almost already gone too. About week ( or two ) ago, we turned the clocks again, ending the summertime, entering the so called normal time, the winter time. And the darkness falls earlier and earlier every day. It is 17.17 or 5.17 pm on November the third and it's pitch black outside. Tomorrow, the sun is gonna set at 16.18 or 4.18 pm.

It's pretty "warm" still, only something like 2ish degrees C ( 35.6F ) but here, where I live, we got first snow of the autum today. The ground was wet so it melted away, didn't even stay long enough to have white ground. And it also rained today.

I've began to think to buy a better camera than my trusty phone camera. Yes, it's going to be used but fine because usually, used cameras are cheaper. From that, I can upgrade later on. So there will be no pictures today, because it's already too dark outside. Next time, maybe next weekend, I'll tell you about the All Hallows Eve, that we celebrated here in Finland, yesterday.

5th of August. The circle has closed. Last year, on 4th, I decided to try and take a picture from the same place, the same day. Well, twice I have forgotten so I've taken it on 5th but still, I've taken it. It's the last month of summer. The nights have started to become darker. It's not too hot anymore. I'm waiting for the autumn to arrive with much cooler weather.

4th of July. The summer is in the middle of its existence. It's been somewhat rainy during this week. But it's just fine. Better that way than awfully hot.

June 5th. I know it was supposed to be 4th but I forgot, so I took it on 5th. And suddenly, it was summer. Thinking to month ago, there was no leaves on the trees. And with the heatwave, they appeared and opened. The yellowish lightgreen season in Finland is only twoish weeks long and after that, the color turns deep green.

May 4th. In the morning, not so early. The spring has arrived ( again ) after what seemed to be a very long winter. I hope that yet another "takatalvi" won't surprise us.

A new hobby, perhaps?

Lately, I've been watching tons of art journaling/ scrapbooking videos in Youtube. And I'm kind of interested. I'd love to start art journaling but I have no materials. Where to get them cheap?

Spring

The cranes have arrived, a little while ago. There's been one really warm day and I saw first butterflies then. But the cold that came after that one day, probably killed them. It has also snowed after that day. But I still saw two cranes on the field today, when I was coming from grocery shopping. And the was three or four deers on the field too. The was somehow very christmassy, even it is the middle of spring here.

This one I took about 7 am this morning. The snow had almost melted already but yesterday, we had "some" more. It was cold, frosty morning. But spring moves forward. 4th of April.

4th or March. I know this is awful picture but it was this foggy this morning. Spring has finally arrived though it doesn't look like it....yet.

February 4th

It's been foggy for many days but today, the sun decided to greet us.

4th of January 2024. It was little over 4 pm when I took this picture. The temperature was probably somewhere around -20 degrees C. You can clearly see the difference in the lighting conditions between this and last months picture. We're in the dead of the winter and yet, the light is returning, little by little, every day.

December 4th, 2023. It was little over 4 pm when I took this. It was freezing. The winter has arrived.

October 4th, 2023. The project moves on. The scenery still looks very summerlike. There hasn't been frost during the nights, so it's still pretty green.

Autumn thingies

The photographer in me, wants to keep this just for photos. The blogger in me, wants to keep this just as a blog. But I'm still going to do both. A bit both.

It is autumn in Finland. My little corner of the world. Where the midnight sun shines in summer and aurora borealis dance on the sky during the polar nights. But now, it's autumn. Not yet full blown, but the leaves have started to change color. The birch trees outside of my window, are turning yellow. And the cool little breeze is already making them fall. The leaves on the maples, little further away, are showing a hints on turning red. Gosh do I love this season? Am I ever more happy than when it's autumn, when the leaves are falling and the rain is tapping the windows and roofs.

And since it's autumn, I decided to start/learn a new hobby. Because when the winter arrives or the colder weather in autumn, one is going to need these. So I decided to learn how to knit. Yes, I'm 43 but also yes, I'm a lefty. And when I was a kid, there was nobody who could teach me how to knit, I was the only lefty on my class. So, I began to knit. And got crazy about all the earth colors, the greens, the browns, the grays, the mushroom colors and moss and rock colors.

And I took a photos which a bit of autumn aesthetic.

So the first picture is just something aesthetics. The second one is going to be a knit, two needle beanie. And the third and last one, it's gonna become socks. Lovely wool socks. Don't the colors look so earthy? I also want to add that when I'm done with these, I'm going to try and knit me some lingonberry colored mittens. Because why not? I need more colors, more browns and greens. I'm crazy, I know. But I love autumn and I love winter. I love my crazy, depressing, dark, cold seasons. I'm happy that it's already September.

Remember the project I started on August? Here's the second picture for it. It's September. The colors haven't yet started to change to yellows, reds and browns. The brown in the field is only because it has been threshed. The leaves on the small trees in the foreground are still green. But wait. Wait for a month, wait until it's October. When the coldness has really fallen and the frost nibbles the grounds. Then, the view is different.
