So, Niall tries to move on. 

He does everything you’re supposed to, after a breakup: he gets a haircut, buys some new clothes, writes a bunch of breakup songs, goes on a world tour. He kisses boys and he kisses girls, and when he wants to call Isla, to talk to her about the kissing boys thing, he doesn’t, because they don’t talk anymore, and that’s not what he should do. 

He makes friends in every corner of the globe, finds himself in strange beds with strange people in countries he wasn’t even sure existed when he first met Isla. He learns to like new foods, nearly kills Harry with a rogue golf club by accident on multiple occasions, does rehab on his gammy knee, and doesn’t call Isla.

Her number is no longer in service, has been as such for years now. But for the first three months after her death, when Liam was too depressed and weak to crawl his way out of bed (except to bathe, occasionally, when his mother would make him, and for physical rehabilitation, also when his mother would make him), he would stretch his fingers for his mobile on the bedside table and ring her to leave messages, burrowed under the covers and crying into the phone, voice completely wrecked.

“Baby, why’d you leave me? Please come back.”

“Emmy, I can’t do this alone. I can’t. I need you.”

“The way this fucking hurts, I can’t even describe. The absolute bloody worst feeling, being without you. Come back now.”

“You look amazing, Quinnie,” Niall murmured softly, their fingertips brushing. “Absolutely amazing. You’re the best dressed.”

Quinn laughed, shaking her head. “There is literally a bride in there and I’m the best dressed?”

Like they’re back at her flat and he’s over to visit while mid-tour but it’s the peak of summer and he’s lying on her bed, stripped down to his pants, throwing a football at the ceiling and doing a terrible job at catching it whilst complaining about the heatwave.

“It’s London, why is it so warm in London? It feels like I’m back in Singapore. Is this how you live?”

She laughed then, trying hard not to correct him because she’s from Malaysia, not Singapore. But he knew that. And she knew he knew that. He’s just pushing her buttons because he’s bored.

He’s in her room like it’s his room and it’s his flat and the spaces in her flat that hummed with bits of him he left behind when he went off on tour is buzzing with energy once more and it’s bizarre. When he was away, she used to wake up mid-dream conversation, lying in the exact bed that he’s lying on, thinking about a talk they never got to have that night and wishing it was real.

I have since the moment I met you,” he starts, emphasizing his every word. “But you’re drunk out of your mind right now, Rory and I know you might not remember any of this in the morning,” he stops for a moment before he grabs the thin strap of my dress that had fallen down my shoulder and slowly lifts it back up. He doesn’t make any movement to take his hand away, though. Instead, he lets it wander up the side of my neck, his fingertips back to dancing across my skin.

“Harry,” I whisper, my eyes voluntarily fluttering shut. When I open them, I’m met with nothing but his intense gaze. His emerald stare piercing into mine makes me feel the most vulnerable I ever have in front of him. It wasn’t the fact that I was extremely drunk or the fact that I was practically sandwiched between him and a ply of wood or even the fact that my dress was unzipped and practically dangling off my body and with just one wrong move it could just slip off.

 It wasn’t any of those things that made me feel vulnerable, as they probably should have; it was his stare.He leans in, only a fraction and allows his gaze to finally move elsewhere. I watch intently as it flicks down towards my mouth for only a split second before they’re back up and leveled towards me. “And when we do kiss, I want you to be able to remember it,” he voices, licking his lips. “Because for me, it’ll be the only thing I’ll be able to think about.”

A college AU where Rory swears off boys after a string of horrible relationships, but her next door neighbor with green eyes, a camera, and bad jokes makes her rethink that decision.

I watch as Harry slowly rises from the couch, saying goodbye to his friends before he makes his way over to where I’m standing near the stair banister. His smile immediately fizzles once he gets a good look at me. It starts at my legs, slowly rising up until they hit my torso, then my chest, and then he meets my eyes, his bottom lip slowly tucking into his mouth. “Holy hell.”

To my surprise, he’s already staring right back at me, his head propped up on his palm and a lazy grin shooting my way, catching me red-handed. His notebook and pencil lay beneath him now, forgotten; he’s too preoccupied waiting to catch my sideways glances.

“Am I too much of a distraction for you?” Harry asks, glee masking his whole face as he shifts his body forward on the stool. “Unless studying me is a new subject I don’t know about.”

Lorelai Sterling stares at the clock with an unamused face, watching it slowly tick by and hoping that time would go a little bit faster. It was Friday today and time at work always seemed to drag at this point of the week. Just twenty more minutes and Lorelai could leave and spend the weekend lounging around her apartment and watching reruns of whatever television show was on. She wouldn’t say she was lonely, but her lack of friends was always apparent to her during her weekends in when she could be out partying it up in the big city of London. But lonely she was not.

Lorelai snatches it from his hands. “Why the bloody hell did you have this? It isn’t one of your cases!”

“I got bored. Wanted to look at some of Bertram’s cases to see if I could take the load off of him.”

Lorelai’s face turns an ungodly shade of red. She almost crumples the file in her tight hands, but refrains herself from doing so. “You got bored?” she ticks off.

“Yes,” Harry answers simply.

Lorelai tilts her head a bit and her eyes narrow at Harry. “Well don’t,” she snaps. “And next time you touch my filing cabinet you’re a dead man, you hear?” she presses her index finger against his firm chest.
