One eyebrow curved as she listened to the man speak, considering his words with interest. “See, that’s what’s really wrong with people though. There’s nothing wrong with wanting exactly what you want. Though I also believe that you can not be an asshole about it too. Not too sure I wanna imagine the wait staff’s saliva anywhere near my food though.”

Having gone up to the counter to get her triple berry blend, peach topped chocolate ice cream, Cora headed back to the table she’d been occupying only to find someone else sitting across from Natalia. “Well, isn’t this nice,” Cora teased. “My seat is barely cold and I’ve already been replaced.”

With the spoon dangling on her lips, Natalia smiled around it as Cora decided to rejoin her. “See, I wasn’t lying. There’s the beaut right there. Now kindly go away.” Her smile was sweet and voice level as she watched them scurry away so the other woman could rejoin her. “There. All fixed. Sometimes it’s useful to have a friend that’s off-putting, yeah?”

Abbott smiled widely at Natalia’s comment as he slid into the booth unannounced. “Of course not, darling,” he replied in an equally as sweet tone. And he plucked a menu up from the table and started to peruse it, even though it was just for show. Vampires could eat, but he didn’t normally find enjoyment in it. His taste buds seemed to lack in the past hundred years, so it was just a waste to even try. “I did see Jezebel Post earlier today and figured I’d get a rise out of her by contradicting every historical reference she knew, but I can save that for tomorrow. Today is your day.” 

It wasn’t that she minded the company at all, Natalia just couldn’t help but to open her mouth when the second party joined her. “My mistake then.” She answered with a smile. “Why would you contradict her when you know it’s going to rile her up? Or is that your game? Seems like you enjoy getting reactions.” Her hands rose to throw them up in a surrendering gesture. “Is this where I feel blessed by your presence?”

“Well if you’re just idly staring please just take a picture and move along” she grimaces as she’s lifting a slightly heavier box filled with food donations into the small boot space, suddenly realizing that maybe it would have been better going in first. “If you weren’t the first person that has been past in a while then I may have asked for assistance, but I kind of had to deal with the hand I’ve been dealt.”

With a pause as if she were actually considering taking a picture while the petite woman was bent over but thought better of it. “Maybe later. I think I’d rather help you figure this out first.” Her hand went out to stop her from putting the box into the trunk, instead pulling out the smaller boxes so that the larger one could go on the bottom. “There. Try that. What the hell are you doing with all this anyway? Getting outta dodge?”

“I’m a swimmer, I spend the majority of my days walking around in nothing but budgie smugglers and even I never walked around shirtless back home. We don’t even get close to this kind of temperature and it’s actually killing me so I might have to do it, even without the alcohol.”

Her nose scrunched at his words before laughing softly. “Budgie-God love you for whatever language that is. If you’re a swimmer then why not just find some water? That way you could lose some clothing as well as cooling down in the process.”

Though she loves her family dearly sometimes Juliet can’t help but wonder if she was in fact adopted, if it wasn’t for the banshee gene she’d be certain of it. She did not posses the amount of generosity that the entire Prattes family seemed to have in abundance, by the time she came around as the youngest of the bunch they must have ran out. And so here she is grumbling and cursing, mostly under her breath, as she attempts to shove the latest donations for the safe house into her little car for the third time. Each time it all falls out Juliet gets worked up more and more, and so when she feels eyes upon her she reacts before her brain can process her words “Eyes at sea level or I pop them out.”

Natalie found herself laughing at the abrupt words that came from the petite girl who looked like she was having a hell of a time. “Sorry, sweetheart but if I wanted to check out your ass, I’d just do it. I wouldn’t have to make any pretenses.” She moved closer to grab one of the items that fell from the trunk. “Honestly I was waiting to see how long you went before asking someone to help you.”

                          “ i have plenty left on my list actually , but since you are right here , i figured i would start with you. ”  despite his sarcastic words , he immediately opened up the book he’d been reading , essentially ignoring her. in opposition to her egotistical thought process , he’d simply had a difficult time finding a place to sit , && had taken this one as a last resort. he slurped obnoxiously on his drink , gaze honed in on the page he was reading.

Her brown eyes were focused on the man, waiting for him to continue talking but when he didn’t, her head tilted slightly. Then came the slurping which was just uncalled for. “Ah, so you’re here for the convenience then? I see how it is. Two can play at that game.” Nat dug for more ice cream, making sure to knock the spoon against the bowl a few times for good measure.

“As soon as this kind of heat shows up in Britain every single guy is walking around shirtless pretending they look the shit, all we can talk about is the weather but mostly to complain about it, every single pub garden is full to bursting and those who aren’t out drinking will be doing so with a spontaneous BBQ at home. Yeah basically you can tell we don’t get this kind of temperature often, we’re very predictable.”

Natalie looked around and failed to see any guys matching his description so she glanced back at him. “So is this where you tell me you’d rather be walking around half naked? Cause there’s nothing wrong with that situation as far as I can tell. Especially if there’s been some drinking involved. But fair point. It’s hot as hell.”

░ ━ ⁛ ⁚ LEGS CROSSED as she sat across in the booth, relaxing momentarily while keeping an eye on the door. “sometimes,” she shrugged, “we have our rushes, a lot of people come in at three am, believe it or not.” of course, she’d been one of those people when she hadn’t had the job, she was still sometimes stumbling into the diner with friends on her arm in the early (or late?) hours of the day.

Nodding, she pushed her spoon into the softening bowl of ice cream sat in front of her. “I believe it alright. Three am is a brilliant time to be alive.” Most of the time she didn’t stumble home until at least half after two at the earliest. “Sometimes a good greasy burger is best at that time. Do you work overnight shifts a lot?”

Natalie wandered into the shop, eyes scanning the walls for examples of work that’d been done there with interest. “One with the possibility of the other. I’m still new here but seeing as how I’m essentially stuck here, I figured I’d come see if you were any good.”

Natalie put her cigarette out under her shoe after she’d found someone to bother on her way back home. She walked up to the porch, stopping on the top step. “Whatever you’re working on looks extremely boring.”

Okay so since I’m new I figured I’d do a little bit of an intro for you guys to get to know Natalia. Her full name is Natalia Rochelle Porter. She’s 32 and unlike most women she doesn’t mind people knowing how old she is. Her main hobbies include drinking, smoking, sex, and sarcasm. 

Nat moved out of her parent’s house when she was 17 so that she could “find herself”. Years later and she’s still trying to do that. Small town living is driving her nuts but for now her safety is enough to keep her put for now. She prefers movies over books but music more than anything. As much as she’d love to trust people, it’s just not in her blood. The only person she can rely on is herself as far as she’s concerned. That being said, she is never one to turn down company. Being alone makes her feel too vulnerable and she doesn’t want that. Hasn’t accomplished much of anything in her life but chooses to keep trying anyways. She’s the kind of person who hates to be bound by the way things “should be”. She’s gonna do what she wants, when she wants to and live as much as she can before she kicks the bucket.

“nope! you’re the only one on my list to bug, see?” she said, holding out her order pad that had the ice cream listed, the top of the yellow pad marked with the booth number. she didn’t however rip it out, instead tucking it back into her apron, “i just wanted to see if there was anything else you wanted?” marie questioned, the diner had started to clear out for the time being, but having been twenty four hours, there would be people coming in soon enough. “water, coffee, company?” 

Seeing that the other girl held a pad with her order on it and that she was pretty much the only one in the diner, Natalie laughed. “Whoops. Guess if I’d been paying attention, I might have known that huh?” Her spoon swirled around the chocolate ice cream before nodding. “I’m good with the sweets but I’m not one to turn down some company. Are you guys usually this dead around here?”
