The royal court letting Wilhelm manage Simon’s media training/behaviour is so fucking funny like. This boy was introduced in s1 by being dragged away from a rave, who said fuck it and pulled rank in the most absurd ways in s2, who threatened the queen via speaker phone, who pulled a gun on his cousin, who impulsively changed his royal initiation speech midway and publicly came out to the entire country. That wilhelm? You want that wilhelm to tell his boyfriend to lay low? Ma’am pls 🤡

honestly though what was the royal court thinking. you really decided to give the job of media training simon to wille?? who is notoriously hard to control with his behavior and what he says?? the kid who came out to the whole country and caused a domino effect of scandals with his first speech to the nation. that kid. was gonna give his boyfriend media training. farima girl come on

Important messages in Young Royals that I don’t want overlooked because two boys kiss:

- the difficulty of growing up with ADHD and aspbergers (or other diagnoses that affect you). the fact that you say too much, or too little, and come off as someone not like everyone else. the way kids/teens usually go through life just trying to convince themselves they DON’T want friends and don’t need them when all they want is to be liked and not have to change who they are. something that affects so many kids today and it is shown in such a real, good, honest way in this show

- girls supporting girls in everything. the fact that felice supports sara, that madison tells so many people off for being rude to her girls and also is one hundred percent right and supportive about how august treats felice and doesn’t want that for her girl. we need this and it’s refreshing to see it in such a nice way without any kind of drama to it just for drama’s sake

- GIRLS PLAYING SPORTS. most girls stop playing sports at the age of 14 which is a big, big problem imo. to see here that the one playing football and wanting support is rosh, and that people GIVE it to her and show how fun she’s having is absolutely also an important thing to show. it made me absolutely so happy to see this get attention and i think people overlook the importance of it

- politics when it comes to rich and poor. the way rich people are allowed to accept all kinds of money whereas if poor people get them it’s disgusting and they are awful for accepting money. that the royal family is the one family getting the most money out of all. 

- you are allowed to set boundaries for yourself. you are allowed to not want to be a secret, you are allowed to not wear a dress that your mother wants you to wear. you are allowed to dump someone even if it could give you opportunities.

- girls have a sexuality and it is OKAY and i love to see that girls talk about sex and hookups and all just as much as the guys (even if a different way) because let’s get rid of the way girls are never supposed to explore their sexuality, discuss it or want to let others know (or know about others experiences)

- parents and substance abuse and how it affects your family and the difficultiy of wanting maybe a relationship but knowing it could fuck up everything. the way kids have to deal with it when they should be the ones taken cared of

- that spreading nude videos, photos of any kind is A CRIME and should be treated as a crime and is absolutely never wrong of the one taking part of the video. they didn’t do anything wrong. august was the absolute asshole that should be charged with so many things. and that people were supportive and felt sorry for them was also the best.

Ok, here's a theory. You know how Wille doesn't wear his iconic scarf after the (as I like to call it) happy episode where he goes to Simon's home.

What if it's about his mode. I myself have happy clothes and what if he does too. THE scarf is his happy one, the one he feels good in.

But after all the shit started coming out he feels sad. And that's why he wears his blue scarf. Even if you exclude Wille from the situation blue is kinda a sad color, when you think of sad or crying you think of blue. But when you think of happiness and love it's colorful and bright, like his scarfs.

So I just finished young royals and Oof, what a show. If you haven’t seen it yet watch it because it’s great BUT ALSO can I please just take a minute to say I love how much all the characters just hug? There’s so many hugs? I love it. Of course it’s Wille and Simon the most, but I adore how much a normal gesture of intimacy it is for them all. It’s so sweet to see.

I actually also think this show kind of perfectly strikes the balance of Teenager™️ wherein you can’t focus for the following two scenes after kissing someone you like (shout out to that one post) but you can also do drugs and drink and fuck around and somehow these things are not mutually exclusive. Just honestly 10/10

AND the writers and director(s) give the characters so much SPACE. It is so unbelievably refreshing to not be rushing from scene to scene all the time like most American media does (and sadly UK media is heading the same way). Truly reflect for a moment and consider when was the last time you watched something that had so much silence in it, so many pauses, so much room to breathe? And by god do you need it, because all the characters are such forces coupled with the intensity of the plot that you’d be buggered if the characters (read: actors) were barrelling on a mile a minute too

I think it’s a really well written, INCREDIBLY well shot show and that more people should watch it

32. What cute nicknames do they call one another?

i... am pretty set on "baby" both ways, honestly. or, i think maybe they'd use a whole roster of terms of endearment for each other-- "love," "darling," "sweetheart" i can see (in swedish, ofc), and simon would definitely have a few in spanish for wille such as "amor/mi amor," "mi vida," "cariño," "mi rey" (sarcastically AND not)-- but i think "baby" would be the one they use the most, to the point that it can really be considered a nickname, whereas the others just come up organically at random.

48. How would each of them explain how they met?

well, it depends on who they're talking to, i guess. i think "we met at school" would be pretty standard from both of them when dealing with strangers they just met or people they don't feel fully comfortable around. for casual acquaintances, new friends who weren't there at hillerska with them, or just people they interact with semi-closely on a regular basis, they might go a bit more in depth. i like to think that wille would often say that he fell in love with simon the moment he first heard simon sing (much to simon's chagrin), and then simon would (in retaliation) bring up that one class where he accused the monarchy of being welfare receivers as the moment wille first became attracted to him (much to wille's chagrin). as for when simon first noticed him, it would be lunch after that same class, when wille almost drops his fork because he couldn't stop looking at simon (much to wille's chagrin... again. boy always loses the "first impression" competition because he's such a giant sap, lol.)

au where simon is at his sister's 30th birthday party at a bar in stockholm and he's waiting to order another glass of soda when someone claps him on the back and says "do him next!" simon is like excuse me but it turns out one of the other guests is this guy named wilhelm who's a sommelier and he's apparently really good at guessing people's drink of choice just from talking to them for a few minutes and he's embarrassed that his friend is parading him around but he hesitantly strikes up a conversation with simon. every few minutes wilhelm guesses a different drink - "gewürztraminer?" "sidecar?" and each time simon smiles and shakes his head. wilhelm's friend gets bored and drifts away, but they stay there, getting to know each other, for over an hour, wilhelm's guesses growing less frequent and more off-base. eventually simon puts him out of his misery: "i should tell you i don't actually drink." wilhelm blushes. "oh, i figured that out a while ago, i just didn't want to stop talking to you"

I hope Simon and Wille make out in everybody's faces everywhere until every last one of them have either had their heteronormativity hemmoraged out of them or they die from apoplexy.

I love that Young Royals respects it’s audience. It isn’t dumbed down or spelled out. They aren’t always explicit and it’s on you to notice. It gives them space to make the story so much richer, because it doesn’t all have to be consumable from the surface level, there is space for deeper levels of development that you have to think about to unlock. It makes for more active engagement, which I think is a big part of why it’s fandom does so well; we can actually have fulfilling discussions about the media where we all get a deeper understanding of it, and we don’t need to invent fanons to get the connection we crave. It makes for a more cohesive fandom. It also feels rewarding when you figure something out, you had to work for that morsel and you appreciate it all the more. God they’re such a good team and I just will never get over how incredible the whole production it. They trust us, and I love them for it.

When Simon stayed the night at Wille's room, as they lay in silence just enjoying each other's company, Wille whispers, hesitantly, "Simon, you know the song...from the ball...could you sing it again?" Simon hums and nods, then sings the song, very quietly, nearly whispering the words in the crook of Wille's neck. When he finishes, he asks Wille "Do you like it then?" and Wille simply says "I love it Simon" and plants a light kiss to Simon's temple. They slowly drift off to sleep together cuddled up on Wille's single bed.
