Hey all

I have recently been unwell and recovering at home but i’m now back at Second Hope. I hope the other staff have been acting in the correct fashion. My foot is currently in a split so no running around for me for a few more weeks yet.

Hello! It took a few hours, at least 4 I’m sure, but I finally got unpacked. My name is Jesse St. James, though if you’re interested in television, movies, and/or musicals I’m sure you’ve heard the St. James name somewhere. If not because of my work, my parents’.

I was told to come here by my boyfriend. Ex-boyfriend now, I suppose. But it seems like he was right, about me needing help. The doctors and specialists seem to agree, I guess.

Welcome to Second Hope Jesse. I believe I have heard of you but I prefer to not get too star struck because I want to treat every individual equally as best as I can. That way people get less jealous and it is better for recovery.

If you need to talk at all my door is open.

Alright, thank you for explaining everything to me. I do wonder if that ever gets old, having to say the same words each time. And yes I was thinking of handing a few things over that might be used for… you know. 

I will try, I am still unsure about how all of this will be going but this will be one of these things you’ll figure out in time- right? I hope so. My dad Leroy did tell me that I needed to make sure that the nurses would know I still need treatment with my leg to keep it from getting inflammation. 

I’ll make sure to leave a little message to the patients, if someone reaches out it will be easier for me to know who wants to talk. 

Thanks a lot Mister Shue, or would you prefer to be called differently?

There is no need to stress as this facility is a place where we encourage others to relax. We have a swimming pool, dance studio, music room, lake to walk around and you are even allowed to bake in the kitchen as long as an adult is present.

Messages to patients is a nice thing to do and i’m sure they would appreciate it.

You can call me, Will, Mr Schue, Mr Schuester...whatever you feel comfortable with.

So I assume that for now I spend time in my room, I’d like to meet people eventually after I..unpacked. Are my bags going to get checked? Since it’s a seperate room- does that mean we have to push a button to call a nurse? Sorry, I’m asking too many questions…I should have read that flyer didn’t I? God, I feel so stupid. How do I know what to be careful about while talking to others? I don’t…want to upset anyone.

Rachel just relax and try to take things in to the best of your ability. Because we know you have a history of self harm you will be checked to make sure there is nothing there where you can self harm. After that we won’t check you unless we have a reason to.

No call button but if you look in your room there is a map which shows locations of nearest nurse station and other places where staff will be. A nurse will come each night and/or morning to give you any medication you need. While we took the phone you normally use, we gave you a different device which allows you to contact people in the facility. It includes talking to staff in an emergency - or to talk to me like you are doing now.

Just approach people like normal if you see them and if they don’t want to talk with you then let them be.

I guess I should see it as a second home? Maybe that will help- I don’t know. So are we seperated? Do we have times for introduction? How is this going to work? My dad told me to read the flyer but…I was half drowsey and I don’t remember much of it-

You don’t have to see it as a second home if you don’t want to. Just treat it and others with respect and you will do well here.

You have your own seperate room and you can introduce yourself in your own time. We have people with all sorts of problems here so we know if someone has anxiety they may need time to adjust compared to someone who doesn’t have an anxiety disorder etc. When you feel like you are ready to talk with a therapist then either get in touch with me or someone else.

I think I have gotten to the point where I am trying to figure out what I am doing with life. I’m a year older, but yet I still feel stuck and not sure where I want life to go. I mean I do know what I want out of life, but yet I am still at a lost at the same.

Hi Mercedes. Life doesn’t have a point at which you say “right you are x years old and you must have your life in order.“ People have different paths in life. Some people take 2 years to figure their life out, while others take twice as long or even longer. That is ok. We can discuss this in private if you wish?

Hey there Quinn, it is never too late or early to start eating food which is usually for a certain holiday. Eat what you feel comfortable eating at the time.

I just entered and I already feel like I made a mistake. I should never had listened to my dads, shouldn’t I be the one who knows what’s better for me.  Though…It might just be because of the fact my leg still hurts and I get nervous thinking I won’t be able to dance, and what if I get people upset with me again. Honestly how can I even deal with this?

Well you’ve always been allowed to “go outside“ as in the garden and depending on your progress you are allowed to go into town for a limited period, as long as it’s with a member of staff.

This means more time to spend outside and more actvities that can happen outside as well. Art therapy can now mean sitting by the lake, dance therapy can mean light exercise in the sun and so forth. I would also be happy to give you therapy not in my office but in a place of your choosing in the gardens - just as long as we won’t be disturbed.

What an amazing time to watch the land come alive again, isn’t Mr. Schuester? If there’s any help I can give you, you let me know, okay? I will do my best to get everyone to feel the best they can.

I know it is great. You may be asked to chaperone patients into town who are allowed certain freedoms, though to those new to it they would only be allowed out for an hour or two. Your job would be to make sure they don’t get into trouble etc.

I did have a question, actually. Are there any circumstances in which we are allowed to explore off building property with a patient if we stay close, or are with a chaperone? Just wondering since the weather is getting nicer.

It depends on various situations like how your recovery is going and if people are behaving well. You can ask Blaine to come with you, can ask me or other staff members. Kurt is allowed to go out for a few hours and there are some others.

There is a nearby community college as well which would get you out of the centre, but that requires you to enroll on a course of some kind. Part of your study will be here and the rest at the college.
