aaliyahrichardson:

“Clearly us getting together is the most excitement they have had in this town lately” she rolled her eyes as she thought they were being stupid, but she wasn’t going to let them ruin her happiness with Will. Although she did feel bad that he was having to deal with people he had grown up with basically talking crap about them. “It’s hot that you work in the fields and do household work. Just a true southern gentleman” she smiled brightly at him before she started to cook dinner for them. Aaliyah was going to put all thoughts of everyone words out of her mind and just focus on spending time with Will and his daughter.

“Well it is a small ass town where literally nothing happens so maybe it is the most exciting thing.” Will had lived here all his life and he had never known of anything exciting or dramatic happen for that matter. Will just laughed at her comment, “well if I don’t do it nobody else will, I’m like the perfect housewife.” Will watched as Aaliyah began to cook the dinner, “is there anything you want help with?” He asked her curiously, not wanting to just sit back and leave her to do it all.

Laughing at his words as she accepted his kiss. Allowing him to take the bags off her, she started to get her stuff out of them so she could start prepping dinner. Shrugging at his question “I’m alright. Just crazy how I got even go to the store without people saying something or staring at me now” before they became an item no one really bothered her, but now that they were together she got all the looks. “How are you?” as she waited for his answer she started to get everything ready.

Will frowned as he heard even she was now dealing with all the crap that he had been getting from the locals. Having them target him he could deal with but the fact they were now saying it all to her just didn’t sit right with him. “Makes you wonder how bad and boring their lives must be if our relationship is all they can focus on.” Will was starting to see these people in a whole new light which sucked since most of them he had known his whole life. A lot of the older ones were friends with his parents when they were around, at least he knew they would have been different if they were here. “I’m good, just been doing the usual, working out in the fields, doing housework. Same old.” Will didn’t exactly live an exciting life, he didn’t have time too.

aaliyahrichardson:

Smiling at the cute girl who opened the door for her “hey cutie” she entered the house and smiled as she really did feel at home here with them. No matter what people were saying she knew that they were in it together. “Hey babe. I brought over some amazing things to make you guys one amazing dinner” Aaliyah was actually excited to make them some dinner and they could all eat it together. Plus she knew they both needed a nice night in, away from all the judgement of the neighbors that were around them.

“Good, I’m glad you are, she hasn’t shut up about how hungry she is,” he gestured over to his daughter who completely ignored him as she went back to watch her show. Shaking his head he turned to walk into the kitchen with Aaliyah, as soon as they were out of sight he leaned in to greet her properly with a kiss. “So how are you?” He asked her the generic question as he took the bags off of her to place them down.

Ever since Will’s run in, she could notice the change of people around town. It seemed that once their relationship became known people were staring at her just judging her. Sometimes she really did wonder why people were so small minded, but she knew dwelling on it won’t get her anywhere. Shaking her head as she had a run in with someone and she listened to the rude comments. It wasn’t stopping her from getting what she needed from the store. Sighing as she made her way to Will’s as she was going to cook dinner for him as well as his daughter. Knocking on his door, she tried to lift her spirits and not think about what happened at the store.

Ever since Will’s first experience with what his fellow neighbours around town thought of his relationship it hadn’t stopped. Now he was aware of it, it seemed to be all he saw or overheard. He was starting to loose his patience with it all which wasn’t like Will at all. As he was finishing up the last finishing touches with the house cleaning, Isla was sprawled out on the couch watching TV. As soon as there was a knock at the door the young girl jumped up. “I’ll get it!” She practically sang since she knew it was Aaliyah. Rushing to the door she opened it with a huge grin, “hey Aaliyah, come in!” She moved out of the way, Will walked into the hallway with a smile, “hey.”

aaliyahrichardson:

“You are use to them being the way they are, but now their true colors are coming out since you are in an interracial relationship with someone who’s not from this small town. It’ll either pass or get worse, but I know one thing, we will face it all together” Aaliyah gave him a light kiss on his lips as she knew that she wouldn’t leave his side no matter what others had to say about them and their relationship because she knew that their relationship was no one’s business but their own. Giving him another kiss “good because ignorant people are worth you getting upset over. You know who you are and you were raised to value life no matter the color of someone’s skin. If you weren’t a good man I wouldn’t be dating you right now.”

Once again she was right, as far as he was aware there had been no interracial couples in town before so he had never known how the people would react. But still there was no need to act like it was such a scandal. “I guess we just need to show them that we don’t care and we will just carry on living our lives,” he kissed her back already feeling better about the whole thing. He just didn’t like the thought that she was so cool about this because she had gone through it before. “It just sucks for them before they aren’t going to see what an amazing woman you are.”

aaliyahrichardson:

Aaliyah listened to him and allowed him to get it all off his chest since she knew that whatever happened really got under his skin. As she listened to him she nodded as she had been expecting this to happen since she had seen some of the people in the small town. That was definitely a problem with living in a small town they tended to be really small minded. Now with how the world was going she wasn’t shocked that the color of her skin was being brought up and that they were making rude comments. Sighing as she saw the toll it took on her boyfriend as she was use to people being ignorant. Walking towards him she straddled him as she looked him in the eyes “I figured this would happen because I mean people are small minded and live back in a time that shouldn’t have ever happened, but we can’t change history. You just have to let people be ignorant and say what they want because their opinions are a non factor. Let them be prejudice and idiots because they are missing out on living a happy life. You can’t let their words get to you because if you do then they feel they have power over you. You just can’t let them have that power.” Aaliyah knew that things were more so going to get worse especially for herself as well as her parents now that it was basically out there that she was dating Will. All she could do was hope that he could handle it all.

Will happily welcomed her onto his lap, his arms snaking around her waist as he held her close. Listening to her, he placed a few small kisses on her shoulder before looking up at her. Will had grown up around these people yet he didn’t have the same crazy caveman beliefs and he was certainly glad his daughter didn’t have them either. He would be so disappointed if he ever heard things like that coming from her. “I guess I’ve never had to deal with this kind of thing,” Will had always dated local girls who he had grown up with. But then again look how well that turned out since the last one left him with a baby. He was happy, the happiest he had been in years and it was just frustrating that people weren’t seeing that because they were fixated on the colour of his girlfriend’s skin. “I promise not to let it get to me anymore, I’m just gonna ignore them because we are happy and that’s all that matters.” He knew she was right and after his mini rant he definitely did feel better.

Aaliyah was in the kitchen cooking a nice meal that she had planned to serve everyone. Will and her got really close during their relationship and she was starting to see why her mom always said she deserved better. Will was definitely different from her ex and she was truly happy having him in her life. Of course she knew that she was going to have to eventually tell him all about her past relationship, but right now she wanted to enjoy it all. He made her so happy and she was truly falling for him and she loved his daughter like crazy. As she was putting the meat in the oven she heard his voice “what happen?” She had never actually seen him upset about something nor heard him cure or speak badly about someone. Something must have really gotten under his skin.

Will sighed as he sat down at the table, that really hadn’t been how he wanted to make his entrance. Will had always been a calm and collected guy, he didn’t like going off on a rant but this really had wound him up. “People in town talking about us as if we’re breaking the law for being together, its not right that I’m dating a black woman and I should be dating someone more suited and better for me. What does that even mean? How do they know whats right for me? Then apparently the old lady who lives a few houses down said my parents wouldn’t be happy about it if they were around.” That had really annoyed Will since he knew his parents would have loved Aaliayh, they wouldn’t have cared like half the town seemed to.

Will and Aaliyah had been dating for a few weeks now and things for the couple had been going great. He really had fallen hard for the woman and it seemed like his daughter was besotted with the woman as well. Life was good right now for Will, that as until word got out about them. In a town this small it didn’t take long for news to travel round. It also meant rumours spread like wild fire as well and Will began to hear things people were saying about his relationship with Aaliyah. Most of the people in town, especially the older generation were very old fashioned with their opinions and beliefs. He knew some people were going to question his choice but he didn’t think they would be full on talking about them in such a way. This really annoyed Will, they barely knew Aaliyah and were judging their relationship solely on the way they looked. With Isla playing out Will went straight to Aaliyah’s parents, walking in to lucky find her in the kitchen. “People are assholes.”

aaliyahrichardson:

She smiled at the little girl “thank you sweetie” then she looked at Will “thank you” taking the flowers she smiled even brighter. It had been a long time since someone did something as sweet as give her flowers. “I’ll put those in water for you honey. Have fun you two” she handed the flowers to her mom before looking over at Will once again “well I am ready if you are ready. I am sure the restaurant is going to be lovely.” Aaliyah knew there wasn’t a whole lot to choose from when it came to this town, but she knew it was going to still be something amazing because she was out with him. Putting her hand in his, she gave it a squeeze as to let him know she was ready to go.

As soon as she was ready to leave he happily took her hand in his as he lead her to his truck. Since the town was small it of course didn’t take them long to get there by car. Parking up he once again took her hand as he lead her inside he restaurant. “Will hey, I knew it would be you when I saw the last name,” Will just smiled at the man by the door who he went to school with. After spending a few minutes catching up and introducing him to Aaliyah they were shown to their table. “It’s not very fancy or anything but the food is great, trust me,” he told her as he took the menu off his old friend.

Aaliyah had been running around trying to find the perfect outfit for her date tonight with Will. Things had been going good for them and finally they were getting a chance to have a date night together. As she looked at her clothes she knew that he was going to be coming soon and she knew she needed to hurry up. Her hair was down in soft curls and she kept her makeup to a minimal, but she had no idea what out fit to wear right now. Sighing she picked out a nice red dress and some heels to go with it. Putting the dress on before adding some accessories that went well with the dress. Putting on her heels she smiled at her reflection knowing she looked pretty good. Nerves were slowly starting to get to her, but she just grabbed her purse and made her way down the stairs. “You look beautiful. Will’s jaw is going to drop when he sees you” she smiled at her mother before hearing the door. Walking to it she smiled “well don’t you look handsome tonight.”

As she answered the door Will just grinned as he looked at her but before he could compliment her his daughter began to talk. “Wow Aaliyah you look so pretty,” the young girl grinned before walking passed her and into the house. “Yeah what she said, you look beautiful,” he smiled as he held the flowers out to her, “for you.” Will had always been taught that flowers were a good small gesture for a woman. “If you’re ready we can leave if you want, I made a reservation at the nicest restaurant in town, although there aren’t many so it wasn’t hard to pick.” He just laughed, he knew it wasn’t going to be strange since he knew the people who owned the place and worked there.

Will had definitely been happier ever since he and Aaliyah had gotten together, he was glad she actually made the first move since he hadn’t. Tonight he had decided to finally take her out on a date since they had yet to do that. Wearing some black pants with a button down shirt he rolled up the sleeves, trying his best to look smart, something he didn’t do often. Tying his hair back into a low bun he had even trimmed his beard slightly to clean it up. All evening his daughter had been teasing him about the effort he had been making but really she was just excited about it as he was. Grabbing the small bouquet of flowers he had brought for her he walked to their house to pick her up. Since her parents had agreed to watch Isla she went with him so he could drop her off at the same time. “How do I look?” He asked her while they made their way over. “You look very handsome dad,” he flashed him a smile. Once they reached the house he knocked on the door.

aaliyahrichardson:

As she heard his questions she shrugged her shoulders “I have no idea honestly. You guys don’t really have a place out here that I can put that amazing degree to work at, so I guess I need to find something I’m good at down here. Not sure what though” she did have some jobs lined up back in New York, but now that she was going to stay she needed to figure out something. Aaliyah knew she couldn’t stay with her parents forever and was running low on money.

As he listened to her he frowned slightly, as much as he wanted her to stay there he felt bad for being the one holding her back. He was the reason why she was giving it all up. “Well is there not a way you can work in the city but live here? I mean it’s not that far away I guess. Or you could live back in the city and I’ll visit often and you can come here.”

aaliyahrichardson:

Laughing as she nodded “we are clearly a pair here. Yeah I would tell my parents I would take things to you for them or just say I was in the neighborhood which I mean isn’t hard to be. I thought I was being obvious, but guess I need to work on my skills here” she was happy though that they were finally an item and didn’t have to make up reasons to see one another. It was a long time coming and she couldn’t be any happier right now.

Will just smiled as he looked down at her, “well what’s done is done and now we’re here.” He knew he was to blame for not acting on her hints but they were here now and that was all that mattered. “So now that you’re staying in town what are you going to do about work? I thought you had a few ideas back in the city?”

aaliyahrichardson:

Laughing lightly “my mom has good taste as well” she smiled at him before happily enjoying the kiss with him. Hearing Isla’s words she just allowed the little girl to walk away as she just continued to enjoy her time with Will at the moment. “So now that we are all official I guess that means I don’t have to make up lame excuses to com visit you” most times Aaliyah would have to find some random reasons to be over at his place.

Will’s eyes followed his daughter, he knew for a fact she only came back for something to eat or drink and then she would be back out with her friends again. His eyes fell back on Aaliyah as she broke the moment’s silence. Laughing lightly at her words, “you were coming up with excuses to see me? Well I may have done the same a few times. I also may have used my daughter as an excuse to have you around since she does like your company.”

aaliyahrichardson:

“I’ll be looking forward to that date” she smiled before looking at Isla for her answer. Shaking her head as she should have known her mom would interfere in her love life. After the bad relationship she just got out of she knew that her mom would want her with someone more like Will. “Well I guess we should thank them for making us spend all that time together. It brought us closer together and here we are now” she leaned up and kissed him quickly.

Isla just stood there grinning clearly impressed with herself that she had managed to pull this off. “My own daughter is playing matchmaker for me, well at least I know she has good taste.” Will just carried on laughing but at least he knew his daughter would approve of his new girlfriend. Kissing Aaliyah back he had to admit he hadn’t been this happy for awhile, it had been awhile so he was more than ready. “Okay I’m done seeing that now,” Isla scrunched her face up as they kissed before walking passed them.

aaliyahrichardson:

“I think you owe me a proper date now as a couple” she smiled up at him and was ready for him to kiss her again, but a voice interrupted them from sharing another kiss together. Aaliyah looked at the little girl in confusion “what do you mean trying to get us together? Who has been trying and for how long?” she had a feeling who the other people involved in the scheme of things. She hadn’t even realized that they were trying to get them together, but as she thought back on some things she could see that they were so she couldn’t help but to laugh.

“I will take you on a date whenever you want,” he smiled back at her. Will raised his eyebrow as he looked down at his daughter, waiting for her to answer Aaliyah’s question. “Me and your mom said how great you two would be together and so we agreed to work together to try and get you both together. After the first time you both met,” Isla very openly and proudly answered the questions thrown at her, causing Will to just shake his head. “You’re too wise for your age you know that and very sneaky.”

aaliyahrichardson:

Finally she was feeling happy especially when it came to being in the small town. Aaliyah was happy that Will wanted to take this step with her and she knew it was going to be something special because he was definitely different from her ex. “We should celebrate being together” she kept her arms wrapped around him as she didn’t want to let him go as she was afraid that if she did then he would disappear from her life. Which wasn’t what she wanted because she really wanted this fresh new start with him.

Smiling down at her, “and how do you want to celebrate together?” He asked her, his arms tightening around her a little bit. He was about to kiss her again he a voice caused him to stop. “Finally! Do you know how long we’ve been trying to get the two of you together?” Will looked over to see his daughter had walked through the front door. He had been that focused Aaliyah he hadn’t even heard her come in.
