If a fanfic you really love stopped getting more chapters even when its clearly unfinished, can you continue them if you give credits? Not an oprhaned work but one where the creator doesnt answer when you ask about smth like this.
I can’t tell anybody what they can or can’t do. but personally I would not be comfortable with continuing someone else’s fic without a clear permission from the author. they don’t owe anybody any response (be it “yes” or “no” or “I’m not comfortable with this”), but their silence is NOT a permission.
*if you only write it for yourself but don’t post it anywhere then what you do in private is your business. but if you post it, even if you credit the original author, then personally it’s still… not something I would do. because in my opinion, this is someone else’s work. again, the lack of response from the author’s end is not permission. if anything, I’d see it as a no.
"Stopped getting chapters" does not automatically mean "abandoned." You don't get to take their fic away just because you decide they took too long to update.
