FOR SOME REASON, Arabella found herself connected to Lilah from the moment that she met her. Partially because she had always been kind to her, but also because she brought out a side of Arabella that hadnât seen the light of day in years. The woman had never really been one to go out, especially since Freya was born. Despite this, here she was, seated at the bar next to her friend with a martini in hand and a smile on her face. It truly was like magic, something that was a little too visible in this town. Arabella had just scraped past a year here and even now, she still struggled to grasp the concept.
Arabella hadnât been in a bar when she wasnât working in years. Usually, she wouldnât be caught dead being a customer at a place that paid her bills, but her boss had been kind enough to her her and a friend drink for a reduced price every so often. The older gentleman had taken her under her wing from the moment she stepped through the doors the very first time. When she had suggested this to Liliah, she knew it was an offer that they couldnât refuse.
âThanks for dragging me out, Li.â The brunette smiled, taking another sip from her glass. âMy world really should be a lot bigger than books and childrenâs toys.â
THERE WERENâT MANY people that Arabella trusted around Freya. Call her crazy, call her strange, but when a child was as gifted as hers was -- it caused her to pay even closer attention. From the moment Arabella had met Eva after moving to town, she didnât hesitate to form a friendship with her. Especially after losing her mom, she had craved the genuine sweetness that her new friend had brought into her life. Not only that, but Freya and Eva were fast friends too.Â
The weather, while slightly brisk, was nice enough to spend time outside and the trio planned to take full advantage of it. Arabella had quite a large expanse of property and had set up a couple blankets outside. Hands wrapped around the drink tray, she made her way towards Eva and her little girl before gingerly placing it down and sitting Freya on her lap. God, seeing her daughter smile made her heart grow two sizes.
âYou know youâre always welcome here, Eva,â Arabella grinned, adjusting her daughterâs sweater. âIâve never seen this one so happy when someone comes over.â
The angel-demon hybrid could sense a powerful someone nearbyâ not unheard of, naturally, given the fact this island was a veritable hotbed for supernatural creatures and every one of them, werenât hard to sniff out. It was a gift inherited from an angel father. Eoin had the powers of both angels and demons, thanks to those two breaking away from custom and committing an act frowned on in both communities. Angels and demons werenât meant to be together like that and the beings they produced were almost considered an abomination because of it. Powerful abominations. Butâ to know the Scotsman, one would never really assume he was capable of half the things he was. His way of life was no more different than a regular humanâs, really.
He had long since grown out of that young, maniacal phase where his powers were used and abused and the central enjoyment of his time. Back when he thought he was invincible and didnât know any better. Of course, the hybrid learned in time that he was very much capable of dyingâ wouldnât be easy, but it could happenâ and that if it happened, there was no going to heaven or hell for him. Heâd be doomed to the Nothing, which was a fate worse than death. So Eoin had since calmed down and taken a more easy-going, lazy relish in an otherwise immortal life.
One can imagine the staggering number of people, beings, and creatures Eoin encountered over the centuries. What he felt right thenâ this beaconâ wasnât unfamiliar to him. In fact, there was only a handful who emitted such an allure, and even then, he had an idea of just who it was this time. Perhaps because she was still so fresh in memory, as five years was practically a drop in the bin to the man now. Lilith. Eoinâs head lifted in the direction he could feel her coming from, his interest caught, wondering what she could be doing on the island and whether or not she had any part in the chaotic last few days. Did she cause that power blackout? Was she responsible for making those winged monsters? He smirked to himself. Hard to say, but either way, he sure wouldnât mind seeing her again.
The sounds of footsteps reached his ears first.
Sure enough, her figure came around the corner.
They noticed each other at the same time, and his smile only grew with her hesitance. Ah, Lilith. She always had that little pause with him. Why, Eoin couldnât precisely say.
âAye, but whatâs five years to us, eh? A blink.â Eoin addressed her in return, that easy smile of his in place as he approached her closely. âBeen drinking?â he asked, giving the air an affected sniff, âWhere was me invite?â The words came out cheekily, Eoin reaching to settle hands at her hips to lure her in closer to himselfâ he had never been a man for boundaries, unless he was asked to knock it off. âIâm starting to think yer getting soft on me,â the Scotsman teased, not at all serious about this as his face loomed in close, âturning up everywhere I am.â
PERHAPS IT WAS the power that they both shared that continued to pull them back to each other, decade after decade. Demons were known to have no soul, to possess a ruthlessness that only those who were tasked to guard hell could possess. Walking amongst humankind had made Lilith see the world a lot differently. Immortality had once been a gift: she would never be subjected to a life in purgatory, missing the things and the people she had formed meaningless attachments too. Now, she wasnât so sure. Not only about immortality as a whole, but if some attachments werenât meaningless after all.
Her deamonhood had also come with a sense of never-ending impulsiveness, which was perhaps the reason why she stood in front of Eoin in truly rare form. First had come the rumor that her children weâre earth bound, settling in some small town overrun with the mystical and unheard of. She had already been headed this way when she thought, I wonder how Eoin is doing. If her children knew that she had been engaging in a decades-long.. affair with a demon-angel hybrid, she would never hear the end of it. Regardless, she didnât care.Â
Theyâd been all around the world, not intentionally together, but indeed together. One of Lilithâs favorite places in the world, as stereotypical as it sounded, was Paris. They had seen Paris together, various other European countries.. even some of the last possible places one would assume that theyâd end up.Â
It wasnât necessarily a pause when it came to him, more so a sense of fear. Not shock that they had run into each other once again, but fear. He scared her, not because of his being as a whole, but because she had been so vulnerable with him. Lilith had never been one to open up. She had brought the worst out of people for thousands of years, yet she couldnât even bring emotions out of herself.Â
âTruly.â The woman sighed, her confused gaze slowly unfurling into a comfortable smile, the tension she felt leaving her body as he stepped closer. âFive years? More like yesterday.â She accepted the closeness without a momentâs hesitation. He was right, five years was nothing to them in comparison to the lives they had lived. Therefore, there wasnât a feeling of newness in the touch he gave and she leaned directly into it. âHow do you know itâs me following you? It could most certainly be the other way around... you didnât forget about me, did you?â She rolled her eyes at the mention of the alcohol, pointing in the direction from where she came. âIâve been here a week and they already know me by name. Is that bad?â
Alejandro was slowly starting to get used to this island, or so he thought. The whole incident with the creatures wasnât over, but he didnât know what he could do to help nor did he know if he would even be of any use. He was heading to grab something to eat, and then going home after working a double when he heard a voice and then heard another one, the second seemed terrified and the first one, he could tell belonged to a young girl. As he looked up, he saw a little girl running towards him and saw what he assumed to be the girlâs mother running after her. When she said Mommy, then he knew for a fact that was her child. âOh, itâs alright. We were all curious at her age. I think she wanted a flower.â He replied, looking over to the right to where it was some flowers on a bush. Taking one off, he inspected it and made sure there were no sharp thorns before handing one to the little girl. âIt matches your outfit.â He smiled before looking up at the other. âYou good?â He asked, hearing her heart beating like crazy.Â
ARABELLA LOOKED DOWN as her heart began to slow down to itâs normal rate, finally noticing the flower. Of course thatâs what she was going after, how anxious could she get? The strangerâs assumption was right, proven by the giddy grin that showed itself on her childâs face as the flower was placed between her small fingers by her mother. The way he handled the flower and examined it made her wonder if he too had children. Some werenât prone to that kind of observation, not like a parent. After a few brief moments, the little girl buried her face into her motherâs shoulder, a little shy due to the strangerâs kindness.Â
âThank you.. Indeed we were. Sheâll be climbing trees and scraping knees before I know it.â Arabella sighed, letting out a soft laugh as her breath finally began to catch up to her. âYes, Iâm alright. Just didnât expect her to run off like that. I thought she was running for you, a stranger.â It was as if she felt the need to reiterate that she was okay, flashing the other a smile that while questionable, was still quite genuine. âNow I know it was just for a flower.. I feel like such a helicopter parent.â
Erik laughed at that âRap⌠music?â It seemed that for whatever answer he got from her, three new questions came with. And he loved to get his curiosity peaked. âSureâ he laughed âBut people just call me Erikâ He offered her a charming smile âLilith⌠isnât that sort of a biblical name?â Erik tried it out, who knew, maybe she was more than just a mere human after all.
LILITH DIDNâT FEEL afraid to expose herself to him, but she still planned on approaching with caution. She was also a firm believer in the fact that there were a lot better options for a musical than rap music. She would never understand why humans had found it so revolutionary. âIntolerable noise. Youâre lucky you havenât heard it.â The comment on her name appeared to be driven by suspicion, which she eventually decided to feed with her next statement. âThey didnât think Iâd raise so much hell when they gave it to me.. look at me now.â He could do with that statement what he will. âItâs a pleasure, Erik.â
ARABELLA RELISHED IN the peace that the library brought her. Barely anyone came in these days, leaving her at the desk to read her latest book of choice. One of her few regulars was one of the good part of her day, Daphne Stout. She had learned very quickly that the woman was a teacher at the school nearby and Arabella loved it when she brought her students in. The kids were always very well mannered and were a pleasure to work with, so she had told Daphne that her classes were always welcome, as was she.
âDaphne!â A genuine smile tugged against Arabellaâs lips the moment she watched her the other walk through the door. Today Arabella was at the desk, other times she was in the back or restocking. Not enough people came into the library, therefore, Arabella wanted it to be a pleasant experience for those who did. A genuine smile and a good conversation could sometimes go a long way, as cheesy as that sounded.Â
âItâs been so long.. Iâve got some classics and some new things waiting for you.â She asked, placing her Christie novel on the desk before pulling the swivel chair inward. âAnything you need, just say the word.â
Erik bit back a chuckle at the irony âI⌠kinda have been living under a rock actuallyâ he shook his head âCanât believe theyâd make one out of him of all people though.â He rolled his eyes, then smirked âYouâre a fan?â
LILITH COULDNâT HELP but wonder if the comment was pure sarcasm or a statement of fact. In this town, Lilith had learned that the latter was the more likely answer in her few days of residency. âOh?â She smirked, her eyes narrowing. She grimaced at the mention of the heinous musical. âOne thing Iâll never understand about the human race.. why someone coherently thought, Iâm going to combine the story of Alexander Hamilton and rap music and make it into a musical. Cause that makes sense.â While she was intrigued by humans, it was times like these when sheâd rather not exist amongst them. Whoever this person was, however, she had come to the decision that she did indeed like this one. âIâm Lilith by the way.. and you are.. stuck in the seventeen hundreds?â
IF THERE WAS one thing Lilith had taken kindly to in the human world, it was a good caffeinated beverage. She didnât know what it was about it, they were always just so delicious. Ever a coffee addict, the demon surprisingly wasnât upset by the line that protruded from the counter and was growing towards the door. Sheâd wait for coffee. Nothing else. Â
It just so happened that the back of the woman in front of her had caught her gaze, considering she had nothing else better to do than zone out. Thatâs what made it so easily to notice the object that fell from her pocket. Any other demon might have just not said anything or better yet, they would have pocketed it themselves. This demon, however, had made a promise to herself that sheâd lean into her humanity a little bit more.Â
After picking up the individualâs possession, she tapped her on the shoulder before holding it up and examining it. âThis looks important.. thought you might not want to leave without this.â
FOR SOME REASON, Freya was trying Arabellaâs patience today. Every single second she either wanted something that Arabella wasnât prepared to give her or she wasnât listening to her. Maybe sheâs just restless, the brunette thought to herself. This helped her come to the decision that a walk into town was the best plan. The pair would often make their way to the park and sit in the grass. Freya never gave Arabella this kind of trouble, which surprised her. Not only that, but what she hadnât expected was for the young girl to take off in the direction of a nearby restaurant.Â
âFreya!â She called out after her little girl, chasing after her. Luckily, she was able to catch her before she got very far and before she collided with a nearby stranger. âBaby girl, youâve got to stay with mommy. Okay?â The brunette could feel her heart pounding out of her chest. âYou scared me..â Hoisting the little girl from the ground, she wrapped her arms around her waist.Â
Her voice trailed off as her gaze turned to the stranger. âIâm so sorry about that.. sheâs an explorer today, it seems.â The joke she cracked was a mask to hide how scared she was. Freya was the only thing that she had left and it anything happened to her, Arabella just might shatter.Â
Erik frowned when suddenly someone pulled him by the arm. First they wake him and now theyâre touching him all of a sudden, what was it with human these days?! âKilled?â he scoffed. AS IF something like that could kill him. He tilted his head in confusion when he heard the familiar name âWait, Hamilton has a store?â
OKAY, THERE IT was. The sign of supernatural behavior. The manâs utter confidence in his ability could have either been otherworldly or just straight up cocky. Sheâd treat it at as the first option. âSomeoneâs confident,â she smirked, crossing her arms before continuing to speak. âWha- No. Hamilton the musical.. with a costume department...â Her voice trailed off, trying to figure out what to do next. âYouâre either a hermit or youâve been living under a rock if you donât know what Hamilton the musical is.â
YET ANOTHER NIGHT bar-side. For the first time in a while, however, she had left alone.Â
It wasnât that she really cared all that much, it was just an unfamiliar feeling. She wasnât filling a hole, not at all. Lilith had gone eons alone already. It was a bit brisk out, causing a small shiver to climb its way up her spine. She had always enjoyed the process of getting used to a new place, every new sight was just that. The woman had seen all of the wonders of the world and lived in some of the most beautiful places, yet, she could still appreciate some of the smaller parts of Godâs creation.Â
Her vision was only a little bit hazy from her consumption, but that didnât stop her from seeing a familiar presence in the distance. It had been at least five years since she had last seen him, but itâs not like he made himself easy to forget.Â
âEoin?â She murmured to herself, only loud enough for her to hear. The loneliness she felt would hurt even more if she was wrong. While sheâd never admit it, he was a soft spot of hers, a dent in her iorn-clad armor. After taking a couple more steps forward, she stopped completely in her tracks, her mind spinning with what to say next. Every other time she initiated conversation with someone, she knew exactly what to say, at least she thought she did. Now, she was drawing a blank.Â
âHey stranger!â She eventually called out, fingers clinging to the hem of her leather jacket to hold it closed. The liquid courage wasnât exactly hurting her conversation skills. âLong time no see.â
Oh, he hated clothes. So many stupid layers just to cover what? Soft breakable human skin? Were they scared of what, the sunshine? With a huff, Erik placed the three-point hat on his head, adjusting the stupid ruffle of fabric attached to his neck, in a true 1700s style. He put on the blue army jacket, hoping someone hadnât lost a war in the time he was asleep and those were, somehow, the wrong colors to be wearing and he left the mansion.
Except it felt like he was in a different planet. His eyes adjusted to the light as people in colorful, ridiculous clothes walked by him. Disturbed, he took a couple of steps forward, just to be almost ran over by a noisy huge pile of metal - WITH PEOPLE IN IT.
LILITH COULDNâT HELP but chuckle to herself when she first laid eyes on the individual across the street. She hadnât seen a human dressed like that in hundreds of years. Unless.. he wasnât human? It was better not to assume until they give a sign, but this didnât stop her growing curiosity. It wasnât that she wanted to help him -- more so that she wanted to see the chaos that his presence would unfold.Â
That flew out the window, however, the moment she noticed the nearby bus almost was close to coming in contact with the individual. Without thinking, she grabbed his arm, pulling him out of the way.Â
âDude, are you trying to get yourself killed?!â She asked, raising a perfectly manicured brow. âYou look like a halloween store fornicated with the Hamilton costume department.â
HEY! IS THATÂ SUMMER BASHILÂ OUT IN THE CRYSTAL WATER? NO, THATâS JUST LILITH BLACK, A UNKNOWN/THIRTY-SIXÂ YEAR OLD, DEMONÂ WHO HAS BEEN ON THE ISLAND FOR ONE WEEK. WORD AROUND TOWN IS THAT THEY ARE RUMOURED TO BE LOOKING FOR A FORMER FLAME OF HERS, BUT WEâll NEVER TRULY KNOW. DID THEY CHOOSE THE ISLAND? OR DID THE ISLAND CHOOSE THEM? ONLY TIME WILL TELL.
Iâm am basing this character on a combination of Mazikeen Smith and Lilith from Lucifer with not only some embellishments from general lore, but also some of my own. Iâve linked their bios over their names.Â
TW: Mention of alcohol, death.Â
Itâs not easy to forget the first demons. Powerful, feared and known for being soulless, there werenât many who found themselves liking them.Â
It wasnât like she was even created for simply being a demon. Lilith was created to be the wife of Adam, the first man. While Adam was hopelessly in love with her, Lilith wanted nothing more than to run away and never see him again. When she saw her opportunity, she took it. When she defied Adam and his father, Lilith was banished from the Garden of Eden and denied the luxuries it offered.Â
Lilith spent the next several eons in hell, working alongside Lucifer and occasionally taking to the mortal world to wander around the earth and admiring the pleasures. Why was God so confident that denying her the Garden of Eden would be her undoing? She was quite enjoying her new life, far away from Adam.Â
Her job consisted of controlling the damned souls who came through the gates, something she took a skewed pleasure in. Hell was oozing in karma, something that each of these individuals were owed.Â
Motherhood never quite suited the demon, believing from the very beginning that her children could fight for themselves and didnât need her protection. She had simply given them life, it was theres to explore. In many ways, she was right. Amongst her children were the four horsemen, each powerful beyond comparison.Â
About thirty years ago, Lilith made the decision to join the mortal world. Her first name was kept the same, but she took on a new surname every ten years or so. She also never stayed in the same place for very long.Â
Immortality came with its good and bad qualities. While partying throughout all of time was fun, Lilith couldnât help but wonder what it would be like to fall in love, settle down and have a life of her own. Was what she was doing truly living?
Lilith has a long history of having a never empty bed, usually filled by one person in particular. The two of them have run into each other every couple of years, and have always ended up waking up next to each other before going their separate ways. Fate just keeps bringing them back together.
Coming to town happened completely on accident, or at least that what she tells people. Part of her couldnât help but look for that on again off again flame of hers, while the other part was following a rumor that some of her children were also on earth. The fact that they all ended up in the same place, now, thatâs an accident.
Lilithâs favorite pastime is still going out, slowly becoming a regular at many of the bars in town. Job-wise, she currently works a couple night shifts at a Gentlemanâs Club close to the townâs border.Â
10/10 is SUPER protective of the dancers. If a patron tries any funny buisness, sheâll for sure toss them by their shirt collar. Sheâs been there like four days and already has every single customer scared.Â
The demon really struggles with caring about people, so sheâs struggling to handle the fact that sheâs actually starting to.Â
Misc Info
Lilith likes to think that sheâs better than sexuality labels. If she meets a hot person, no matter your gender, sheâll hit on you.Â
Part of Lilith wonders after observing humans if she has the chance to actually be a mother even though her children are fully grown and thousands of years old.Â
She sleeps around a lot. Her bed is rarely empty and itâs usually a different person every single night.Â
HEY! IS THAT PHOEBE TONKINÂ OUT IN THE CRYSTAL WATER? NO, THATâS JUST ARABELLA VALENTINE, A THIRTYÂ YEAR OLD, WITCHÂ WHO HAS BEEN ON THE ISLAND FOR ONE YEAR. WORD AROUND TOWN IS THAT THEY ARE RUMOURED TO BE THE MOTHER OF A HYBRID CHILD, BUT WEâll NEVER TRULY KNOW. DID THEY CHOOSE THE ISLAND? OR DID THE ISLAND CHOOSE THEM? ONLY TIME WILL TELL.Â
TW: Mention of death, abandonment, light mention of gore.Â
Arabella Lawerence-Valentine was quite literally born into witchcraft. Distantly related to the founding member of the Valentine coven, there was no question that she would be extremely powerful in the years to come.Â
As she grew up, it was clear quite early that the magic she possessed was almost too powerful for her small frame, showing itself when she didnât want it to. Her parents made the decision to pull her out of general schooling and homeschool her all while trying to teach her how to engage her newly tapped power. It was the last thing they had expected, but, the Valentineâs had prepared for this.Â
Cedric Lawerence, a human, hadnât signed up for the lifestyle that his wife and daughter brought him. When she was six, Arabella came home from school to be only met by her mother. What first became âdadâs going to go stay with grandma and grandpa for a whileâ became âweâre on our own, kiddo.â
When she got to high school, Arabella began to grow restless. She knew her mother was preparing her to take over the coven, but that was the last thing she wanted. She didnât know if she was ready for the responsibility, especially after watching her mother handle it with the grace that she did.Â
Just days before Arabellaâs eighteenth birthday, the unthinkable happened. Arabella awoke to find her mother, one of the most powerful witches alive, dead in her bedroom. Several other important witches and warlocks associated with them had also been taken out under mysterious circumstances. The next morning, Arabella learned that she was the last member of the Valentine coven, somehow left alive. The question of why me is something that has haunted her to this day.Â
Arabella spent the next decade in New Orleans, searching for that very answer and isolating herself from the rest of the world. She would have rather died than reach out to her father, so she found means to support herself and made the decision not to go to college after finishing her education at a local public school.Â
Instead, Arabella picked up extensive shifts at a popular bar in the area that was frequented by many of the supernatural. She was very well liked by the customers and often asked for.
One night, a customer came in that she had never seen before. He was tall, handsome and seemed like just the amount of wild she could get behind. After her shift ended, the pair sat and talked until closing time. The last thing Arabella expected was for her to have a one night stand, but thatâs what happened. When she awoke the next morning, her bed was empty.
This decision proved to be very problematic for her a couple weeks later, when she was staring at a positive pregnancy test with no way to contact the father, a concept that scared her even more. Not only was there a high possibility that he had already skipped town, but he was also a supernatural being. How could she possibly handle a hybrid child alone? All she knew was that she couldnât do it in New Orleans. The child deserved a fresh start without Arabellaâs legacy hanging over her head.Â
Two months after arriving on the island, Arabella gave birth to Freya Renee Valentine, Freya being after her late mother.Â
Sheâs been in town ever since, working as a librarian during the day and a bartender at night to support the two of them.Â
MISC. INFO
Arabella is bisexual, but with a more extensive history of dating women. Her most recent relationship was with a woman and lasted her the longest, about two years.Â
This woman will live and die for her daughter. If anyone tries to come at little Freya in an even remotely malicious way, sheâll make them regret it within seconds.Â
Sheâs also quite shy and struggles to make friends. Part of this is due to her shy nature, the other part being that sheâs terrified to lose the people that get close to her, like her mother. Despite this, sheâs made a promise to herself that sheâd make an effort.Â
Shortly after her father left, she legally dropped his last name and now just uses Valentine.
Iâll add more stuff here as other things come up!
