Today is the start of the "quiet period" before the midterm election, a longstanding legal protection for eligible voters.
Forty-four states, plus Washington, D.C., are banned from doing mass purges of voter rolls within 90 days of a federal election under the 1993 National Voter Registration Act.
There's a ban on most states systematically purging voter rolls within 90 days before Election Day. Republicans are pushing courts to reinte
With an active legal fight over the quiet period's scope playing out in the courts, election experts recommend eligible registered voters be vigilant about checking their registration status before their states' deadlines.
Find links for checking your voter registration status here:
For the 2026 elections, NPR has collected deadlines and information on how to register to vote — online, in person or by mail — in every U.S
I strongly recommend that all US folks click on the above link to the tool; it is not an article, it doesn't gather any data from you, it's just a fast way to view all the information about registration for your state.
Remember that even if you have not moved or changed your information since last voting, it's still worth checking your registration.
Absolutely love how Hunter is taking no shit off anyone anymore. We need more democrats to follow his example and quit playing nice with literal fucking fascists.
Hunter calling these fuckers out and I am LIVING for it.
Hunter went on Tucker Carlsons show and fawned all over and said he loved fucking Candace Owens so let’s all calm down about how great hunter is
And that is why calling them weird little freaks is the only thing that works.
You have to call them weirdos. They HATE being weirdos.
They’ll “nuh uh, YOU’RE the weird ones!!!” themselves to death.
Call ‘em weird. Not wrong.
“You want to look at kids genitals before a soccer game? That’s weird.”
“You don’t think consenting adults can fuck who they want? Fuckin’ weird, bro.”
“You don’t think you have the right to go to the emergency room without bankrupting yourself? That’s so strange.”
"But AI can't do your job. It can help you do your job, but that doesn't mean it's going to save anyone money. Take radiology: there's some evidence that AIs can sometimes identify solid-mass tumors that some radiologists miss, and look, I've got cancer. Thankfully, it's very treatable, but I've got an interest in radiology being as reliable and accurate as possible. If my Kaiser hospital bought some AI radiology tools and told its radiologists: "Hey folks, here's the deal. Today, you're processing about 100 x-rays per day. From now on, we're going to get an instantaneous second opinion from the AI, and if the AI thinks you've missed a tumor, we want you to go back and have another look, even if that means you're only processing 98 x-rays per day. That's fine, we just care about finding all those tumors." If that's what they said, I'd be delighted. But no one is investing hundreds of billions in AI companies because they think AI will make radiology more expensive, not even if that also makes radiology more accurate. The market's bet on AI is that an AI salesman will visit the CEO of Kaiser and make this pitch: "Look, you fire 9/10s of your radiologists, saving $20m/year, you give us $10m/year, and you net $10m/year, and the remaining radiologists' job will be to oversee the diagnoses the AI makes at superhuman speed, and somehow remain vigilant as they do so, despite the fact that the AI is usually right, except when it's catastrophically wrong. "And if the AI misses a tumor, this will be the human radiologist's fault, because they are the 'human in the loop.' It's their signature on the diagnosis." This is a reverse centaur, and it's a specific kind of reverse-centaur: it's what Dan Davies calls an "accountability sink." The radiologist's job isn't really to oversee the AI's work, it's to take the blame for the AI's mistakes. This is another key to understanding – and thus deflating – the AI bubble. The AI can't do your job, but an AI salesman can convince your boss to fire you and replace you with an AI that can't do your job. This is key because it helps us build the kinds of coalitions that will be successful in the fight against the AI bubble." - Cory Doctorow, The Reverse Centaur’s Guide to Criticizing AI
WHO is going to do something about this? Or are we ignoring it?
jfc ANYONE WHO BELIEVES ELON RIGGED THE ELECTION NEEDS TO BECOME A POLL WORKER
He WAS hugely influential because he was giving out million dollar checks
He was around
He didn’t rig the machines
She lost for myriad reasons
If we want to win, CALL THEM WEIRD. DON’T LISTEN TO DAVID PLOUFFE OR ANY CONSULTANT.

Look, rather than being petty and destroying it, why not talk to the girl. Really ask them why they are using the confederate flag. But no, low level terrorism is the answer.
LOW LEVEL TERRORISM?
Low level terrorism

Pssst… Chicagoans! There is a commemorative library card to be had at the Obama Library branch! Mine was from 2005 so when I heard there were limited edition cards down on Stoney Island, I flew down lake shore.
Also, it’s pretty cool! Excited to go back when I have time to wander and it’s not a gray day.
the air is starting to smell a bit salty… my door is getting rusty too…..
i'll forever miss how the internet felt before you had to second-guess the authenticity of every single piece of media you came across. silly videos used to be just silly. fun was coincidental. wonder was just wonder. digital art had character and soul. AI has taken the taste out of everything and irreversibly poisoned the creative sphere and the people still pushing it forward are the doom of both joy and the quality of being.
this is in perfect iambic meter and sounds like the first line of a weird poem
Rule #2
Don’t ever hug a lobster when you see one on the street,
For decorum is essential when a lobster you must greet.
You may comment on the weather, compliment his choice of hat,
But crustaceans like their space if one should stop them for a chat.
Don’t ever hug a lobster when you’re strolling down the coast,
Simply nod and give a greeting, or a handshake at the most,
For a lobster’s first priority is formal social graces,
And one seemes over-familiar if a lobster one embraces.
Don’t ever hug a lobster when you meet one in the sea,
For a lobster’s spines and chitin make it difficult, you see,
And he might become self-conscious if you bring that fact to light,
So don’t ever hug a lobster, simply put, it’s impolite.
I’m never leaving this fucking website
i’m pursuing a career as a pastry chef and i enjoy making sweets for the people i love. if one more person starts waxing hysterical about the dangers of sugar and fat and calories in response to me making something nice for them i’m gonna become a real life batman villain.
like they almost always DO want the sweet in question, so it’s not a matter of disliking the gift. but they feel the need to perform this whole display of guilt and shame about it. and it’s super awkward and uncomfortable.
it’s not black tar heroin. it’s a cookie. i made it with love. it will not kill you. if you don’t want it that’s perfectly okay. but at least have the same grace and manners you would if you were rejecting any other gift, alright?
