wills "happy ending" being set in a gay bar is so incredibly cruel because historically gay people have had little choice but to find either other at these bars, which were commonly raided. like. why out of all the things you couldve made realistic in the show you chose THAT???????

It’s ok to be worried and hesitant but i don’t think we should eliminate byler happening COMPLETELY.
it’s more than ok to want to be upset because this is so important to so many people and queer ships shouldn’t have to just exist in fan fiction.
But there is ONE important thing that NEED to happen: A conversation between Will and Mike
Do I think byler will happen in the way we all want it to and the way we deserve, maybe not. BUT as much as I’m hesitant to say it will happen i’m also hesitant to say it won’t.
Why would Will mention tammy if no one knows who she is except for like 2 people? I think he’s trying to convince himself he’s over mike and i think that line is trying to bait the audience.
We know that Mike and Tammy are NOTHING alike so him saying that doesn’t really make any sense.
I also want to encourage people to watch that seen again and notice mike’s reaction to Will talking about liking someone and the way the camera often separates him from the rest of the party.
Also the extreme like of Mikes POV. Do i think it was the best choice no but its very interesting narratively that they just completely left it out.
And why, if we are sticking to Mike being Will’s strictly best friend would he not be one of the first people to hug Will. It’s almost like he’s thinking about something. He’s never held back before…..interesting
And then the fact that Joyce and Hopper had a conversation in the exact same place the Will and Mike had their flirtatious exchange with the two trees framing them and the signal tower like HELLO!!!!
I’m not gonna pretend like i’m not a little disappointed but also we need to do what bylers do best which is go beyond the surface. Remember the bylers from season one and two!!!!! We’ve come to far to give up now.
and most importantly even if it’s not canon doesn’t mean it’s no real and that doesn’t give people the right to bash us. It means the writers broke their own rules of the story and that is not on us for analyzing that’s on them.

Guys I feel like we need to talk about something that isn’t ever addressed in terms of Melvin. So for me personally I always found Melvin uncomfortable at a certain level even when I shipped it especially durning s1. People oftentimes say “Oh yeah I preferred Melvin in s1 and 2 :/“ but I beg to disagree (obviously if you believe this that’s awesome this is just my opinion). Me and my other byler shipping friend have often talked about how Mike and El have a weird power dynamic (emotionally not physically ofc) but never had a word or trope or a real concrete explanation to describe our feelings about it. Queue my discovery of “Born Sexy Yesterday”. To simplify it it’s a problematic media trope where a woman or in this case teen is “sexy”, desirable and talented (in elevens case her superpowers) but she is infantilized. For example this girl usually lacks basic information but information that is basic enough for anyone to give it to her (i.e. what is Illinois? What is a friend? So I’d be like your sister?) . Then there is almost always a male character who gives her that information and basically acts a a father(ish) figure in helping the girl understand the world around her. More often than not the male character ends up falling in love with her not despite her childish behaviors but almost because of them. Though the characters might be the same age or the girl may even be more powerful (i.e. having superpowers) than the male character, it leaves a really uncomfortable feeling in your stomach. The male person who teaches you most about the world is nearly always your father so when there is a relationship akin to this that turns romantic… you see what I’m talking about? You might say “Mike just took her in and helped her as a friend not as a guiding/father figure!” And that’s where I’d beg to disagree. He kept her in his house and provided for her and gave her meals. He taught her about the world around her. He taught her how to speak (I know not literally but he taught her a lot of the basic vocabulary she uses). Now this is not to accuse Mike as a character of being perverse or weird in any way, he too is a child. I am stating that this relationship was poor writing and a really uncomfortable choice on the duffers part. Also before people say “oh it’s not weird you’re just reading too much into it” we’ve literally been programmed through contless pieces of media that this behavior is ok, ‘Pirates of the Caribbean OST’ between the mermaid and sailor, ‘Outlaw Star, The New World and Forbidden Planet’ Alta and John and so many more.
