⠀⠀⠀⠀ 𝓢ure their first meeting was less than perfect — but considering the amount of fear of being pulled straight of hell by an angel ׅׅ𖤠 The sheer idea of something good saving someone like him ׅׅ𖤠 It didn’t feel real, it had to be some god forsaken trick just to spite him 。So yes, he stabbed him and it backfired 。But the mention of it caused him to huff in the slightest, as if he was mildly offended 。However, he understands 。That night he was given hope that he was worth a damn, even for a moment, for a day, a few hours 。That’s when crimson coated his cheeks, these kisses barely had time to register in his head 。Fucker was to quick 。They were moving fast, and he wasn’t mad about it 。It’s been years 。Years of tip toeing around each other 。Letting an audible sigh escape him the hunter leaned forward and buried his face in the angels neck, inhaling the sweet scent that caused him to become intoxicated 。He felt dizzy, warm , but most of all safe 。He’s always on guard, always tired 。
That’s when he registered the words 。You’ve been owed so much 。It’s true, he has but he never expected a damn thing 。Passed it off to his brother, told the world that he didn’t matter, just that Winchester in particular 。Watch out for Sammy 。He never thought of himself let alone his happiness since he was four, but here he was relishing in it 。Thriving in it 。And it’s all this angels fault 。
Yet his soul — it’s beyond damaged, shattered in pieces that somehow remain whole 。Ironic 。How he has survived this long is news to him, he expected to die in that hospital the night he got electrocuted 。Hell he was prepared for it 。Wanted it 。But he survived long enough to meet him 。
⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀❛ 𝓒as 。。I don’t have an answer for that 。It’s just — everything kept falling apart around me, anyone close to me has died 。I was owed it ׅׅ𖤠 Sure, but Sam deserved it more 。 I’m easily discardable, but when it came to you 。 。 Fuckin’ hell you stayed no matter how angry, pathetic I was man 。 I wasn’t owed so much 。。I was owed you 。 Because I just need you 。 ❜
WILL it always be like this, he wonders, the startled stillness coming from Dean burying his face in the column of his neck. It’s something to get used to, he supposes, because he likes it. God, he likes it. It’s not as if they haven’t been close before; personal space, he seems to recall. But this sensation is different, Castiel knows, the pull no longer hidden in the way his chest tightened when he sat in a car with a beautiful boy. And he felt it then -- something that registered in that passenger seat. Always wanting to be close, the desire to be near. It feels diluted or perhaps it’s just that he didn’t connect what it was until Dean voiced it. And isn’t that the irony? That Dean has given name to what he’s been aimlessly wandering in. Dean: the only one whose words could cut him, the one whose prayers in purgatory had kept him grounded. Love, it seems, to be too grand and yet it’s not enough, not really. Not when Castiel feels too big for his vessel.
He’s never been one to mince words, at least not when it comes to the Winchesters. He’s always been forthright and knowing firsthand that Dean feels he needs to be worth something is just . . . well, Castiel needs to put an end to that right then and there. Because the righteous man has been torn apart time and time again and anyone who is still capable of fixing themselves up afterwards should never question their worth.
“Life has been unkind to you, Dean Winchester.” Such a tame word for the hell he has endured, Castiel knows. “Sam is who he is because of you. You raised him. You tried to ensure that he wasn’t trapped as a pawn in the game heaven tried to play.” The guilt is still there and would always be. Castiel was created as a soldier and it’s because of Dean that he realized he could be so much more, that humanity wasn’t meant to live life in absolutes.
“You are not easily discardable,” he spits out, the very idea of it so deplorable that it cuts through the haze that’s softened him. “There is only one Dean Winchester and the world is a better place because you are in it. And in every conceivable universe, in every part of reality, I would find you and remind you again and again.”
Too much? Not enough. Sentiments can barely pierce through armor that’s been wrapped around for so long. But Castiel remains in their truths. “You have me, Dean. Know that you don’t need to do anything else to keep me.”
