this is my hot take for the day:

stop hexing/cursing everyone around you. not in the love and light threefold bullshit way, in the it’s a dick move way. don’t hex someone because they cut you off in traffic, you don’t know why they were in a rush. don’t curse someone because they made a post you disagree with (unless it’s like bigoted nonsense) just block them. baneful magic is a tool like any other yes, but it’s one that should be treated with more thought and caution than some others.

did a reading with the fair folk for the first time and i’m just thinking about my ancestors and if they also worked with the fey, and how much i wish i had been working with the fey when i was in ireland visiting where my great grandparents were from. it’s a lot to think about i have to admit.

I think one of the most important things about baneful magic is learning not to be trigger happy. It's like having a real gun in your hands; keep your finger off the trigger until you know exactly what you wanna do, why, and have your target lined up. Don't just be flinging shit out into the world, baneful or otherwise.

This is not really about fearmongering, it's more about using it wisely. Again going back to the gun example, if you have a gun, you're not going to shoot someone in the foot just because they said something you don't like.

I'm not going to tell people what they can or can't do, people have been doing what they want since the dawn of time. Don't let me or Wings stop you. But don't be surprised either.

Also it's about more than making sure you don't harm someone else in the process. It's also about making sure you don't accidentally fling it back around your way, or let it leak and bleed into its surroundings, or whatever else. Negative emotions are potent. Baneful intent is potent. It's difficult to control because so are your emotions. There's no shame in it.

Just learn to sometimes control it.

Witches should support one another, not tear them down for the sake of their own egos. I feel like that happens far too often on tumblr. The small communities of pagans and witches feel like echo chambers that never branch out past their personal bias'. So when new people come to genuinely join the community they end up being forced out by people who want control more than they want fellowship. It's really sad. I came here for fellowship, not to have to defend every spiritual decision I make. You know?
