Tasseography
â˘Tea leaf readingâ˘
You might be wondering where this unusual form of divination came from, so hereâs a short history on tasseography. Shortly after tea was introduced to Europe, tea leaf reading, as itâs now recognized, was born. Similar divination tools had been used with an assortment of other materials. The art of tea leaf reading spread through Europe, and is now practiced throughout the world.
Doing a tea leaf reading involves you indulging in a delicious cup of tea and putting your sharp intuitive skills to work. After you enjoy your warm cup of loose leaf tea, youâll leave the loose tea leaves at the bottom, where some of these leaves will form symbols, each having their own meaning. Thatâs where your keen intuitive abilities come in! Anyone can see a triangle at the bottom of a teacup, but your job is to intuit what it means for you or the person youâre reading for.
WHAT YOU NEED FOR A TEA LEAF READING
Tea cup with a wide brim thatâs light enough to easily see your tea leaves.
Saucer
Loose leaf green or black tea, preferably organic.
Napkins
Pen and paper
Water
HOW TO PERFORM A TEA LEAF READING
1. BREW YOUR TEA
Gather all of your materials. Boil your water. Place about a teaspoon of loose tea in your cup. Pour your water in and steep tea to your preference.
For the next 3 steps, if youâre doing a reading for someone else, have them do the following steps.
2. SIP & SWIRL
Before you take your first sip, gently swirl tea counter clockwise three times. Sip and enjoy your tea, but donât drink it all! When thereâs about 1 tablespoon of tea left in your cup, swirl it again 3 times counter clockwise and think about or speak your query aloud.
3. CREATE YOUR TEA READING CANVAS
Turn your cup upside down onto your saucer to remove the remaining water, allow it a minute or so to drain, then turn it back up right.
4. LOOK FOR SYMBOLS
Look over your loose leaf tea pieces and see if any symbols or shapes jump out to you immediately. Donât fret if you donât see anything immediately, similar to scrying with a crystal ball, it can take some time for imagery to form for you. Try looking at the inside of the cup from different directions to see shapes. Keep in mind the images formed are formed from tea leaves, so you will really need to use your imagination.
5. RECORD & DECIPHER YOUR FINDINGS
If you do start to see some shapes, begin writing them down on your piece of paper so you can decipher them later, note where in the cup they are too. Now youâre ready to decipher your findings! Hereâs a guide for the most common symbols found during tea leaf readings:
6. UNDERSTAND THE TIMELINE
Where your tea leaves are situated in your cup relate to when they will happen. This is why some of the tea leaf reading cups you find have circles inside of them. Timing is broken into thirds as follows:
Bottom third: farthest away from happening, think 3-5 years out.
Top third: will be happening in the near future, think within the next few weeks.
Middle third: will happen in about a year from now.
7. FORM YOUR READING
Like most divination tools, a honed intuition is key for success, so be sure to lean on any gut instincts as you form the story for your reading. Once you understand the meaning behind the symbols itâs time to put all of the information into a story that makes sense for you or the person youâre doing a reading for.

Ummm, does anyone know good ways to contact/speak to Thanatos, or what to write to him? I really want to connect with him more, but there isnt much info on him sadly...
I offered a bunch of things to Thanatos today, and he seems really happy about it!
Pin the Mouth Shut
A curse for someone who likes to aggressively shove their opinions in others faces.
What you need:
- an apple or lemon
- pins
- cayenne or chili powder
- black salt
- a taglock, or a paper with the targetâs name on it
- a black candle
Light your candle, you want it to melt a little so you can use the wax. Cut your apple or lemon into wedges. They look like little smiles donât they? Good, youâll need two of the wedges. Take the taglock or paper and push it into the wedge, letting the juice soak it.
Say, âyour vicious words will sour on your tongueâ.
Sprinkle the cayenne over the wedge and taglock. Say, âyour mouth will burn more with each harsh word until you cannot bear itâ.
Sprinkle the black salt over the wedge and taglock. Say âyour throat will dry until you choke on each cruel wordâ.
Now take your second wedge and place it atop the taglock and spices. Carefully stick your pins into the wedges, making sure at least one goes through where the taglock is. Imagine the targetâs mouth being clamped shut, unable to spew their vitriol. Lastly, carefully pour wax from your candle over the seams where the wedges meet (blow the flame out first!) and store it in a plastic bag in a dark place.
To break the curse, cut the wax and carefully un-pin the fruit, taking the wedges apart and bury it away from your property.
I have some issues trying to get myself to get into a habit of offering and praying to the Gods but an acquaintance gave me some good advice and I think I'm going to follow it.
Even if I have nothing to say, I am going to try to get into the habit of just lighting a candle or giving an offering daily to the Gods even if I don't say anything besides "I give this to X"
Hopefully I'll be able to build a good habit from this
This is a very good advice. Praying and worshiping in general is a very difficult thing to get used to, specially if you come from a background where religion wasn't important or it was practiced just occasionally. Being a pagan, many of us must practice alone. We lack the group motivation and companionship that other religious people have, and this makes it even harder.
But when you do engage in worship, you feel better. You feel euphoric, confident, loved. And that's beautiful, because it's a feeling between you and your God(s). For anyone having trouble with prayer I recommend you read this article I found online a couple of weeks ago. It really helped me, and I'm now praying more often, more freely.
whatever happens after this life, wherever I go once ive passed, itâs comforting to think after all this pain Iâll be able to relax for once finally in a field of flowersâŚlike that may not be everyoneâs idea of a good time but ive never been at peace and that truly does sound like paradise to me
