Summary: Y/N is clumsy by nature, but when she’s nervous she’s a mess. It doesn’t help that she’s crazy for Minho and that he’s a smug little klunk.
Everyone in the Glade knew I was clumsy. Some found it amusing, others annoying, and a few were actually kind to me because they knew how embarrassed I felt about it. Not that I had any control over it anyways. Even if I was careful, I always ended up being clumsy.
But one of them reacted a little differently. And I tried to avoid him as much as I could.
If I was usually clumsy, around him I became a walking disaster. Why? Because I was crazy about him and his presence made me extremely nervous. And I didn’t want to make a fool out of myself in front of him, and because of him.
I worked at the Gardens with Newt.
Being a Track-Hoe was the best choice for me since my clumsiness wouldn’t be too much of a nuisance in the Gardens.
I tried the Cooks, and ended up dropping a whole pile of plates. I tried the Builders too, and I had to go to the Med-Jacks after I hammered my finger. And I won’t even talk about the idea of being a Runner. I had to beg Alby so he wouldn’t make me a Slopper.
I mentally sighed at my clumsiness. I admit that it was funny sometimes, and I usually just laughed with the Gladers to avoid the shame. But at times it got on my nerves and created truly awkward situations.
“Y/N, don’t look too fast, but here comes your Minho” Newt mocked me with a smirk.
We were really close friends, and he knew about my crush on Minho and took every opportunity he had to throw it in my face and have a laugh.
I looked over my shoulder as I absently kept working, not even paying attention to what I was doing. As Newt had said, Minho had just finished his run and was exiting the Doors.
I yelped and squeaked when I pricked my finger with a thorn. I should have paid more attention to what I was doing.
“You alright?” Newt didn’t even look at me, he was used to it.
“Yeah…” I pouted a little, briefly glaring at my finger before my eyes fell voer the Runner again.
Minho looked in our direction and I thought I saw a smile growing in his face. Then he headed our direction.
“Oh, shuck, he’s coming” I muttered under my breath, staring at Newt with pleading eyes, asking him for help.
He chuckled and placed a hand on my shoulder to show his support.
It wouldn’t be the first time he got me out of the many awkward situations, and more with Minho. He was a good friend.
He got back to his work to act normal and gave me a wink to encourage me.
“Oh, holy shuck…” I whispered, nervously biting my lip.
“Slim it” Newt whispered in my direction as he jogged towards us. “Just don’t bloody act like a child, love”
I had to agree that I sometimes did around Minho without even noticing. I hated liking him that much.
“Hey, guys” Minho greeted us with a big smile on his face.
“Hey, Minho” Newt casually said.
Of course, I was nervous. I was about to say ‘hello’ and ‘hey’ and ended up mixing those two words together.
“Heyo” I blurted out, cringing on the inside.
I heard Newt snorting and trying to keep it together not to laugh at me. I mentally cursed him.
“Uh…” Minho seemed too tired to use one of his many witty and sassy remarks. “Have you seen Alby?”
“He’s over there” Newt told him, pointing at the Kitchens.
Minho patted his back and ruffled my hair before he jogged in that direction.
“Heyo, really?” I slapped my own forehead while Newt laughed.
“It wasn’t that bad. At least you didn’t bloody fall”
“At least you didn’t bloody fall” I mimicked his British accent in a ridiculous voice, making him chuckle again.
After I picked up all the onions from the Gardens and put them inside a crate, Zart told me to take them to Frypan. Newt teased me telling me to be careful not to drop them.
As I made my way to the Kitchen, I saw Minho around there, talking to Ben.
‘No worries, he hasn’t noticed me’ I thought, carrying on with my job.
But he then waved at me and called my name. I opened my eyes wide and stared ahead, feeling already nervous.
I suddenly slipped and felt myself falling backwards. I braced myself for the impact, but a pair of strong arms caught me and steadied me.
“Falling for me, huh?” Minho smirked, and I took a discrete step away from him once he had helped me recover balance.
“Are you following me?” I asked him, trying to act nonchalantly. Trying not to be too obvious, I looked around me to find Ben alone. Minho was there with him just a second ago.
I opened and closed my mouth a few times, trying to make out words, any words. But I was speechless.
“Let me help you with that” He tried to pick up the crate, but I didn’t let him.
“Don’t bother, I got it” I pulled the crate towards me, but he insisted.
“I just want to help, shuck face!” Minho complained, pulling harder in his direction.
“No, it’s…” We both managed to drop all the onions inside the crate as we fought for it.
Minho rolled his eyes and bent down to pick them up. I squatted down too.
We went for the same onion and our hands brushed against each other.
I heard him smirking when I pulled away quickly. Did he do that on purpose?
When the last onion was inside the crate, we both stood up, keeping an eye on each other.
“Why are you avoiding me?” He snapped after he handed me the crate, full once again.
“I’m not avoiding you!” I exclaimed, but he cocked an eyebrow at me, not buying it.
We stared at each other for a while in complete silence, analyzing one another.
“So you don’t have any problems with me?” He insisted, crossing his arms over his chest.
“Not at all” I tried to show a confident smile, but I couldn’t say if it worked.
“You’re not keeping anything from me” He half-questioned.
“Then I guess you wouldn’t have a problem if I asked our second in command about it, now would you?”
“No” He nodded once, satisfied, and started to walk away. “Wait, what?”
I heard Minho calling Newt, and him raising his head as he heard his name.
“No way…” I whispered, frozen in place.
He wouldn’t tell Minho… right? But that rascal would.
If he says a word, I’ll kill him.
Finally, the day was over. It was such a long and tedious day, but I was done having dinner, so I was headed to my hammock to get some well deserved sleep.
I quickly said goodbye to the boys and calmly walked away.
Of a sudden, something yanked me violently and I fell over someone’s lap.
“Oh, come on!” I groaned when I saw him. Of course.
“I think you basically stumble over your own two feet” Minho mocked me.
I struggled to get up and back on my feet, but he was tightly wrapping my stomach with his muscular arms.
“I have balance issues!” I complained. At least would explain why I kept falling over. “And anyway, you were the one that made me fall”
Minho just laughed, enjoying the sight of me struggling to get rid of him.
“Will you stop being a slinthead and let me go already?” I crossed my arms over my chest irritated.
“You’re completely oblivious, aren’t you?”
“About what?” I kept on struggling even if I knew it was useless. I wasn’t stronger than him.
“I guess I’m so good at everything, even at this…” He arrogantly said in that Minho kind of way.
“What are you talking about?!
“Stop moving around, Y/N” Minho muttered, his voice neutral.
I scowled and obliged. I then proceeded to stare at him, waiting for an explanation.
“Newt told me” Those three words seemed like the end of the world to me at that very moment.
“What?!” I screamt, my voice almost echoing through the Glade.
“You’re always so dramatic” He rolled his eyes exaggeratedly, but he was smiling. “I knew anyways”
“I guess it was pretty obvious” I muttered, still uncomfortable with the fact that I was sitting down in his lap.
“See? It wasn’t that bad” Minho grinned. “I know I’m intimidatingly handsome, but…”
“Shut up” I probably blushed and admited I agreed, enhacing his ego.
Minho was staring at me, too amused by my nervousness to say anything else.
“So…” I continued, fiddling with my fingers.
“So what?” Was he playing dumb to annoy me?
“About what?” He was definitely doing it to get on my nerves.
“I like you, shank! So…” I drifted off, hoping he’d finish my sentence.
“So…” He softly brushed my lips with his, almost like in a caress instead of a kiss. “I like you too, you shank”
A cheerful fit of laughter escaped my mouth without my permission. In return, he gave me another kiss, a longer one this time.
All of a sudden, I felt extremely comfortable sitting in his lap, and not nervous to be close to him at all.
