Business Continuity Plan

What can disrupt a business? Hardware failure, human error, power disruption, and many more. But what do we do continue business after disruption? We can construct a Business Continuity Plan(BCP). There is a planning life cycle for a BCP, such as analysis, solution design, implementation, test and acceptance, and maintenance. First, we analyze time-sensitive and critical business functions and resources that support them. Second, after analyzing functions, we must design a solution for those said functions to continue it’s service. Third, we test and accept(if necessary) the designed solution if it is really a solution. Fourth, we implement that designed solution to be used on actual scenarios. Last, simply maintain the designed solution for it to be used for long time.

Disaster Recovery Plan

What do we do when a disaster strikes? Disasters are very unpredictable. It causes major problems. But for IT, what do we do after a disaster strikes? We can restore hardware, applications, and data. But before recovering, we should set priorities for recovery of the business functions and processes. All aspects must be repaired, because without one component of the system, it may not run properly.

What did I learn in Devmain?

First of all, I didn’t have a clue of what Devmain was. I thought is was very complicated. At first, yes. But if you listen carefully, it’s very simple. It’s agenda was all about software engineering, system development life cycle, alternative methodologies, etc. My question is, why develop an information system? Mainly, it can assist many companies in there processes. It can make it easier for them to do something in 5 minutes rather than 30 minutes. But my own reasons on why people need to develop an information system is: it can be an opportunity, repair a problem and a directive. Our main concern in Devmain is practicing us in planning, designing and implementing information systems. In order to do that, we plan, analyze, design, construct, integrate, test, install, and maintain an information system. In planning, we plan on what our information system will do. It’s purpose, scope, and features is planned. When we analyze, we propose our analysis of what do we need to do with our system. Designing? We construct and make the specifications of the system. While in integrating, we link or connect two or more systems for them to share needed information with each other for better use. Testing is just simply testing the system if it meets the requirement or if it simply works. Install? We implement the system for real use of our clients. And finally, maintenance. We just need to maintain the system of it’s problems like errors, bugs, hardware inferiority, etc. There are more things to Devmain. But these things that I’ve said are the concepts needed to be learned of you want to be a successful project manager and system analyst in the future.
