Can we just agree that nobody wants to wear seven watches at once?
Overheard in the cab line after a press event showing a slew of new wearables.
The Fader Fort is known for surprises. Last year it was Usher. Last night it was Snoop Dogg. But tonight as the Fort closed out its South By Southwest residency, there multiple revelations as both neo-soul goddess Erykah Badu and rapper Bun hit the stage to perform alongside headliner Rick Ross.
Between the three of them they blazed through nearly three hours of music as hundreds of fans – including rapper Yelawolf, who watched from the VIP area – partied along. Badu, whose appearance was announced just yesterday and who told the crowd "you don't even know how much I love you," started things off with a soulful touch. She was followed quickly by UGK rapper Bun B, who got the crowd super-hyped by playing "Big Pimpin'" – his 2000 song with Jay Z and the late UGK rapper Pimp C.
Bun B is a native Texan and a presence that lends truth to what producer/DJ/label-head A-Trak told WIRED just the other day. "I remember when Kanye came and did a surprise set at the Fader Fort maybe four years ago. That really opened the floodgates. Then everyone else in hip-hop was like, what’s the South By Southwest thing?" he said. "[Then] the underground guys started coming, and what’s even cooler on the rap side is that then on a local level a lot of the Texas guys started putting on showcases here." It wasn't Bun B's showcase, but he took the stage like he was home.
Finally, the night was closed out by Rick Ross, whose new album Mastermind just hit the top spot on the Billboard chart (I know this because he brought it up multiple times). Blazing through hits like "Hustlin'" and even a bit of his collaboration with DJ Khaled, Drake, and Lil Wayne "I'm On One." In typical Ross style he smoked (something, we're, um, not sure what), pulled up his shirt to reveal his tattooed stomach, and generally acted like the bawse. It was a sweaty, high-octane set, and – if nothing else – the best possible way to shut down yet another SXSW. Like Ross, we've hustled hard and now it's time to drop the mic. Â

Band can't get a gig at SXSW? Just rent a house, spend $50 on lights, set up in the front yard, and play to the crowds as they drift by.
Did you crowd surf? I missed it.
OH somewhere (anywhere) at SXSW
To the crew guy wearing a "Don't Feed the Hipsters" t-shirt at the Fader Fort: I salute you.
There’s a beautiful sunset out there — somewhere.
For just one song put your hands in the air. For this one song put your [expletive] iPhones down.

Oh Texas
The sun finally came out for a while, and folks at the Fader Fort took advantage of the prime napping opportunity.
People are taking their drinking really seriously right now.

This is Debbie Harry of Blondie hugging Rachael Ray at Stubb’s. Yes, seriously. This happened.
Found the infamous Third Man Rolling Record Store. They're selling vinyl from all the Third Man recording artists, plus t-shirts, tote bags, and all manner of bright yellow merch.
Saw these sweet trading cards designed by the Jacknife Studio from UK. The detail is pretty great — plus, it’s nice to see there’s still something for the nerds at Flatstock!
It’s the last full day of SXSW and, naturally, it’s raining. That means fewer people are willing to brave the elements to watch (uncovered, outdoor) shows. One respite from the rain? Flatstock 43 - the expo of concert poster artists from all over the world. Want a screen-printed Mario from the early Nintendo era? It’s here. Or maybe gig posters for the likes of The XX or Taylor Swift? Yep, they got those in-house too. (One artist was even selling rainbow-colored machine gun stickers. But maybe that’s just our thing.)

For those of you in Austin who are lookin' for a chill hangout spot and a great cup of coffee, check out Friends & Neighbors in the east side on Cesar Chavez. They just opened up this week, and you're missing out if you haven't stopped in yet. This is the most relaxed I've ever felt during a SXSW -- I wish we could bring them back to SF with us!
