Mind has great power. And concentrated mind is the supreme, all-accomplishing power. I have seen the most marvelous demonstrations of this power of concentration. This power is everything, provided you do not give up.

When you think of serving Him, all work is a pleasure. I want you all to have that consciousness of the blessed presence of God. But without work, without divine service, you shall never get there. You cannot get there by meditation alone. Meditation means meditation on God in seclusion, and meditation on God in activity — because that is meditation, too.
There are an inner and an outer circle of devotees — those who are steadfast and those who come and go. I prize most the bouquet of souls who have come to serve God and the Masters steadfastly; and that bouquet of souls I offer to the Heavenly Father. I do not care who comes and goes. He who follows me, follows not me but Him that sent me.

Enter the Quiet Heart
How shall we please You? You don’t require to be pleased; You want our heart’s purest love. O Father, You are like a little child, so easy to please.
“I know Thou dost not want our reverence. Thou art our Eternal Friend. But loving Thee as a little child, Yasoda knew Thee. Krishna’s devotees knew Thee as the greatest Friend. Ramakrishna knew Thee as Divine Mother, as Kali. Lahiri Mahasaya knew Thee as the Great Spirit. “I sought Thee, calling for Thee, everywhere. The cold sky never answered, and the ocean roared at me, and the sun blazed, and the moon stared; but when I meditated and called unto Lahiri Mahasaya, beloved Lahiri Mahasaya, Thou didst come through knowledge of the law and practice of the law. Such joy, such happiness, such communion, endless joy!

I am Thy love-enchanted dewdrop, sliding safely over the leaf of earthly lures to enter Thy taintless waters of wisdom. I want not to lose myself but to become infinitely enlarged by merging in Thy Sea. I shall be Thine omnipresent dewdrop, imbibed by all God-thirsty lips.

When Jesus quotes the scripture that “ye are gods,” he signifies that all souls are made in the pure image of God, the Father. If one hundred people are basking under the sun, ten with their eyes wide open and ninety with their eyes closed, all are revealed by the sun. But the ninety who have their eyes closed see neither the sun nor themselves as do the ten whose eyes are open. Similarly, souls with open eyes of wisdom behold themselves as emanations of God, while others, even though they too are “children of the most High,” do not realize it because their eyes of wisdom are closed. Thus, although the scripture says of all humans“ye are gods,” there is a difference of perception among them according to the degree of their Self-realization.

Whence did reason come? What is its source? It is intuition, the omniscient faculty of the soul, that fathers the faculties of reason and discrimination. We must daily recharge our reason and good judgment by contact with the soul through deep meditation if we are to achieve true success and fulfill the purpose of our earthly sojourn.

You can’t fail to reach God ultimately. It is foolish to ask,“Will I be able to get into the kingdom of heaven?” There is no other place you can stay, for that is your real home. You don’t have to earn it. You are already God’s child, made in His image. You have only to tear away the mask of the human being and realize your divine birthright.

In the Sanctuary of the Soul
The only purpose of life is to get away from the delusion of this material world. Wait no longer. How dare you forget God! I testify to you of the existence of God’s astral kingdom; now why don’t you seek it? You are always trying to create that picture of perfection here on earth, but it is fruitless. You will never succeed, for this world is a place of too many limitations. That utopian dream is but the lost forgotten memory of your experience of the astral world.

Years ago Guruji told us (and psychologists nowadays would certainly agree) that chronic worry, fear, nervous tension, and the other negative emotions — guilt, hate, jealousy, bitterness — close off the channels through which wisdom and healing flow from the deeper levels of consciousness. People become so tense and anxiety-ridden in struggling with their problems that they get emotionally “hung up.” So when we have tried everything possible to solve our problem and nothing seems to do any good, the wisest course is simply this: Relax. Stop trying to deal with it through the limited human resources of the rational mind, which has brought you to your present state of frustration and tension. Surrender the problem to the Divine with one hundred percent faith and trust. In other words, “Let go and let God.”

The law of prosperity cannot be manipulated by man for his own selfish advantage. The working of that law is controlled by God, and He doesn’t permit His laws to be bent or broken arbitrarily. If man works in harmony with the divine law of success, he receives abundance; if by wrong actions he disrupts its generous flow into his life, he punishes himself.

In San Francisco [in 1925], I had only $200 in the bank and was about to begin a lecture campaign. I had not enough money even to make a start; and many large bills had to be paid. I said: “God is with me. He has given me this trouble and He will look after me. I am doing His work; I know He will help me.”
If the whole world forsakes you, but you know that He is with you, His law will work its wonders for you. When my secretary came to me and I told him how much we had in the bank, he literally collapsed on the floor. I said, “Get up.” He was shaking: “We are going to jail for not paying our bills!” I said, “We are not going to jail. In seven days we will have all the money we need for the campaign.”
He was a doubting Thomas, but I had faith. I was not in need of money for any gain of my own, but to spread God’s work. I had no fear, even for the enormity of my troubles. Fear is afraid of me. What is there to fear? Nothing should give you fear.
Face all troubles with faith in God and you will conquer. Bhagavad Gita says: “With heart absorbed in Me, and by My grace, thou shalt overcome all impediments.”
And think of it! I was walking in front of the Palace Hotel when an elderly woman came up to me and said, “Can I talk with you?” We exchanged a few words and then out of the blue she said, “I have money to burn. Can I help you?”
I replied, you don’t even know me?” “I don’t need your money. Why should you offer money to me when She answered, “But I do know you; I have heard so much about you.” And right there she wrote out a check for $27,000. I saw in that the hand of God.…

If devotees do not progress, it is because they discard their weapons of self-control; a discouraged devotee often gives up all self-discipline when he does not attain spectacular achievements in the spiritual path. He refuses to meditate, avoids his spiritual instructor (teacher or lessons), and drifts into a mental dimness of spiritual indifference in which there is only an occasional glimmer of intuitive perception.
You must convince God that you absolutely refuse to be treated like a human animal, bound to the slow progress of natural evolution. Show that you are willing to make the effort now to remember your divine heritage as made in God’s image. You do not want destiny to gamble with your life. You must be able to take command of your life, even of death, as Jesus commanded the storm to cease. The Masters teach you how: Become a master of your Self. If you practice these teachings of Self-Realization Fellowship you will know that all I have said is true. Be like Jesus’ disciples by practicing kindness and love and renunciation of too many desires so that you can find God. That is what you want.

You think meditation is so difficult because you have developed the mood of being with the body. This body itself is a mood. It is a delusion God has put over our souls. “Why think we must go into samadhi?” the mind asks. “How nice is the body!” your mood says. But in stark contrast to the soul, I feel the body is most repugnant. It is anything but perfect — all the time giving some trouble and clamoring for attention. It coughs and sneezes and is never all right. Why do you want to love the body? Why do you want to put a garland of adoration on it?
