In my head everyone who is a man and has hated Will before actually just has a one sided crush on him and they don’t understand that so it manifests as a need to hurt him
I am specifically not tagging this post because I am about to say something that the fandom might get upset about. But I mean this when I say that I am speaking with all the love in my heart. I truly do love this series so, so much. And I am not saying any of this as criticism. I am only speaking my mind into the void a little.
I think Wistoria's storytelling is trash about half the time.
The magic system is nonsensical. None of the incantations mean anything. Of course creating new spells is so difficult when there's 0 logic in how any of the magic is done! No wonder Elfie is considered such a genius with like 12 new spell creations under her belt. No one can understand how the fuck magic is supposed to work! Absolute bullshit through and through. I'm a big fan. 8/10.
Also, you can't really take something too seriously when there's literally a place called "Slumland Street" in this series. Or the fact that it's called a "dormitorium" when "dormitory" is right fucking there! What is this, Futurama!? Absurd. I love it. 10/10.
I still don't really understand what the fuck is up with the tower. Why is there like another dungeon in there? The fuck kind of purpose does that even serve??? 7/10 for nonsense. A passing grade!
The only reason I am not against the stereotypical "shonen protag accidentally has a harem" cliche is because this series is weirdly LGBTQ+ friendly??? Like. I am proponent of the "Rosti is a clone" theory but it's still astounding to me that he is allowed to be openly gay. And instead of mocked, he's beloved by Will and is seen as a real rival by Colette. Not to mention how Sion, Julius, and Wignall all have varying types of crushes on Will. Also also, am I the only one who finds it somewhat interesting that Will wears a short cape in the dungeon. A short cape...like the girls wear. Yes yes, you can make the argument that it's for better mobility, but it's still something that caught my attention. Soo...headcanon that Will has a little genderfluidity in him. That said, the harem cliche as a whole is so goddamn overdone and if they were all girls I would be screaming in frustration. 10/10, love me some representation. (My bias is showing...)
Lastly, a lot of things happen with little to no explanation. Normally I'm all for keeping some cards close to one's chest and drip-feeding lore to your audience. But goddamn! If I have to see the series mention Colette's past one more time without actually telling us what exactly happened I might throw something! 6/10 what the actual fuck is going on at any given point? Still a passing grade but please I am begging you to explain things to your audience sometimes!
So yeah... I think the writing is garbage a lot of the time, but I still have such a soft spot for this series. I still get hyped for new episodes and manga volumes to come out. And maybe once my hyperfixation on a different series has calmed down a bit I'll be able to catch up with the manga online. And I still have a Julius/Will fic I want so badly to write. So again, PLEASE don't take anything I've said the wrong way. I really, really am speaking only with love.
Huge props to Wistoria: Wand and Sword, for having a guy who is explicitly, textually gay for the protagonist and isn't the rival hate-crush that's just barely, by the slimmest margin possible, vague enough to still be subtext (at least as of ep6 of season 1), be among the people hopelessly crushing on the protagonist as per the usual shonen genre conventions.
But also for making said protagonist so cute and adorkable that I do fully sympathize with all the people obsessed with him. They are incredibly valid.

I've gotten several obvious bot comments on this fic recently, all going on about how it would be a good comic. 🙄 But this one in particular pisses me off.
How DARE they run the entirety of that chapter through AI to generate a summary! 🤬 And you cannot convince me that that is not what happened! First of all, no human would use Elfie's full name+titles. I only did so in order to humorously juxtapose how noble she's supposed to be with her bawling like an infant! Second of all, Elfie's love isn't unrequited. Even in this fic where 7 people kiss Will, it's pretty obvious that he still loves her. But of course, AI wouldn't be able to grasp that just by looking at 211 words in a silly epilogue!
All of this to say that I'm getting really frustrated with bots. And I absolutely loathe generative AI with a burning passion.
