🌙 Simple Everyday Things You Can Do For Protection Source | https://www.instagram.com/mariathearcane/?hl=en
What are some simple things that you do that you think would help another witch? 🌙 My list of daily or easy practices requires little to no prep-work •Use a protection plant ally like a witch’s burr, cloves, thorns, motherwort, black pepper, garlic, or onion. Close your eyes and place your plant ally in your hands. Ask the spirit of the plant if they will offer you protection to see you through the day. Carry it with you. •Alternatively, you can also use crystals. My go to combo is black tourmaline and red jasper! •Use a protection archetype tarot card like the Nine of Wands. Nine of Wands, for myself, symbolizes boundaries and protection when it comes to our growth/life path. Place it on your altar with intention since it is a portal to our intentions, our guides, and the liminal, or carry on your person. •Smoke cleanse the thresholds in your home, yourself, and your loved ones. I personally like rosemary and lavender for this purpose. •As you leave an offering for your guides/ancestors/deities during your daily conversation with them ask them for their help when it comes to protection. •Write the word protection or a symbol of protection on a black candle with intention and light.

Witchy things to do with your ash
Put it above your door: If your ash comes from incense or an herb bundle, the ash shares the same correspondences and power as the herb. I’ve met some who think it’s even stronger, as it’s been activated. You can either use the bundle to make a light mark above a door frame or it can be done with a finger. This can be powerful protection, luck bringing, or love inducing, depending on your intent and correspondence
Use it in spells: Why get rid of something so powerful? As mentioned, the ash still has power and energy. Your correspondence is based on what was burned. You can use it in place of that herb if you’re out, or in addition.
Use it in anointing: While it’s often used in conjunction with oil, ash has a long history of being used in anointing. Burning holy herbs, and then using a finger to swipe cooled ash onto someone being anointed is a powerful piece of the ceremony
Bury it: A lot of witches, including myself, find that burying the remnants of a spell is incredibly powerful. It’s often seen as giving respect to the earth for the power it gives. The phrase ashes to ashes, dust to dust comes to mind. It’s essentially the ending of a spell, returning the ash to the earth
Ward your home: Sprinkling protective herbs and ash around the perimeter of your home can help ward against negative energy and evil spirits.
Mix it in to art: Did you know you can make your art magic? Through sigils, colors, intention and more. But one possibility is to mix a bit of ash into your paints or use it as a charcoal substitute

Witchcraft Altars
The Expectation
The Reality
Let's talk for a minute. Yes, I made that second image as bleak as possible while still maintaining a functional altar. And the top image has so much stuff on it, if I tried to pick up the wand, I'd probably knock over the candles and set the place on fire. But the main difference between the two is 30 something years of gathering things.
What I don't see talked about on social media is that no one really begins with that top altar. Even if you had the money, you wouldn't really know what to buy yet or the best places to find things. The bottom altar is things I have and still use in my practice that were functional and affordable to begin with. If you began in a traditional coven, the HP or HPS would handle the coven's altar and you would acquire tools as part of your studies. And sometimes things would be passed along to you.
The wand - a simple branch vs a carved and finished wand (barely visible resting on the deer antler in the top altar)
The athame - bottom is a simple brass letter opener. Top is an Isis athame that is technically a letter opener for shipping purposes. Sitting below it is a funky little knife for a boline.
The chalice - a glass tea cup from Goodwill vs a collectible Avon goblet and pitcher, also from Goodwill. (Thrift stores are great)
For earth - we have a simple granite rock vs a fancy carved dragon skull. Also top has a paten with an engraved pentacle. I didn't have one yet when I began my practice.
Cauldron - top is a cast iron cauldron from a local store. Bottom is a Pyrex dish from Goodwill. The Pyrex withstands high temperatures and is particularly useful if you get into things like alchemy. My most functional cauldron is my mother's old cast iron bean pot but it's too big for the altar. (camping supply stores, gang. Look for camping supplies.)
God and Goddess - simple river rocks to represent the god and goddess vs Greek statues. Statues get pricey real fast.
Offering dish - a basic plate vs a malachite bowl. (I don't actually use the bowl for offerings because malachite isn't really a food safe mineral.)
Fancy vs simple incense holder. A salt dish, fan and candle snuffer on the top altar. Fancy candle holders on the top altar (from Goodwill).
(Neither of the above is my current working altar.)

Witchcraft: Cleansing
Cleansing is one of those aspects of magic that is used frequently, but can be somewhat confusing for new practitioners to find resources on. Cleansing is like a form of spiritual hygiene for you, another, an item, or area.
After long periods of time, overcoming challenges, or the contact of many different energies, our own energies can become polluted with magical residue, and that is when one would cleanse themselves. The same concept stand the same for items such as Crystals.
Many cultures believe and act accordingly to the fact that when cleansing, leaving windows and doors open is providing the energy a place to escape to, rather than allowing it to rekindle.
Some practitioners believe Banishment is an extreme form of Cleansing, such purifying something rather than merely sanitizing it. Although Banishment is usually used in terms of expelling entities, the same does also apply for energy.
I highly recommend Cleansing the tools you use to Cleanse often. Some witches do not Cleanse things because they believe it can remove all of the energy from a person, place, or object.
Cleansing Methods:
Fire:
Candlelight, sunlight, bonfires, warm baths and showers, simmer pots, candle flames, and loose incense can all be used for cleansing yourself, an object, or space.
Intent:
Your hands, fingers, mind, and spirit are powerful tools if you only harness and wield the with an educated mind. With the right intention, you can yourself Cleanse beings, objects and space with visualization.
Physical:
Decluttering, organization, rinsing, dusting, purging, sweeping, moping, wiping down surfaces, and general hygienic care can be used for cleansing spaces and objects when done with intention.
Sounds:
Using sound is incredibly powerful for cleansing, ranging from vocal statements, Hertz Frequencies, Ringing Bells, Sound Bowls, Banging Pots, Wind Chimes, Songs, to chants and incantations. Sound can cleanse entities, items, or areas.
Water:
Water can be used to cleanse, weather it from a faucet or creeks, oceans, storms, or rivers, it has potential. Running water or water in general not only washes us, but our energies too. Bathing, rinsing, showers, and scrubbing can all be applied here.

Litha
a.k.a Midsummer
What is Litha?
Litha is the summer solstice, which is the longest day of the year. Typically, the summer solstice is on or around the 21st of June, although in 2021 it is on June 20th. This day marks the beginning of summer. It is a bittersweet moment (mostly sweet), because we know that the days are at their longest, but soon the darkness will rejoin us. Litha celebrates the Sun (and any Sun gods/deities), joy, and fertility. For some, depending on your traditions and beliefs, this is when the Oak King is at his peak. Litha is another fire festival, where we celebrate life and all that comes with it
