kate knows all about adapting to fit in . hell , she’s done it for the past thousand years . but the blonde vampire can’t help but be curious as she finds herself in attendance at the ball . she brings the glass of whiskey up to her lips , taking a sip as eyes dart around the room and land on the woman directly adjacent to her . “ sure . ” comes her easy reply . “ not a fan of fancy events ? or is it the people ? ”
she exhaled, eyes moving to meet with the other. she feels unequipped to explain herself, the party causing her to feel out of sorts, unbenowst to her . she merely shrugs, eyes averted in distraction. "i guess it's been a while since I've been to anything this fancy, it takes some getting used to." she smiled a little , hoping to ease the tension. "are you enjoying the evening?"
could use some, honestly. the ball is stifling with unfulfilled expectations, with hope's absence, with too many pretty people a girl from the future can't risk leaving too much of a mark on. the stress is getting unbearable already. " that sounds like a good idea, actually. the music's giving me a migraine. "
she did not know what was on the other girls mind , but she did empathise. she nodded, choosing not to question further, a hand fleeing to take hers and guide her towards the exit. as they enter the cool air, cassie let go of her hand and shoved it into her pocket, exhaling at the welcomed country air. "penny for your thoughts?"
“ maybe you're having a bout of seasonal depression , ” cora comments offhandedly , looking up from her phone . “ it’s ironic given how this is supposed to be ‘ the most wonderful time of the year ’ or whatever . ” eyes will roll at their own statement . the holidays had never been ... a great time for cora . at least it hadn’t been for a good six or so years . “ but sure , i’d be down for some mulled wine . maybe something stronger . you think they’d have spiked eggnog ? or eggnog that i can spike ? ”
"perhaps , though i don't think it has anything to do with the weather." she exhaled with a shake of her head. her lack of social outgoings , and the company she kept, had more to do with it. she was struggling adapting to a new town, and in truth, was finding her own wrong doings were catching up on her. "it's a wonderful time for those who have people to spend it with, but don't let my pessimism stop you." she added , gnawing down on her bottom lip. "i mean , it seems that this party has anything your heart desires.. we could raid the bar?"
◎ — [sender] and [receiver] decorate and bake christmas cookies ft. @witchlikecassie
frankly, faye really rather wished she'd slammed the door shut in the other witch's face as soon as she showed up. she hated that the severed bond still somehow managed to draw their circle together. she really wished she wouldn't ever have to see the others again. excluding melissa, of course. first it was diana, and now cassie freaking blake. how she'd been roped into making christmas cookies, faye had no idea. piping bag in hand, the raven haired young witch drew a cartoon like portrait of her auburn haired companion, then drew glasses, angry brows and moustache on it, as well as a wart on the nose for good measure. "aww look, you're even prettier in cookie form." faye taunted the other witch, eyes rolling.
their attempts at gaining common ground has been short lived. cassie knew that faye despised her, and with good reason. she however, was keen to make a fresh start, and such harsh remarks and troubled gazes were enough for her to know this would be far from easy. she was keen to focus, the cookies would surely be accepted at the winter bake sale , and she was not willing to allow the other to jephodise that. "so you think i'm pretty, aw shucks." she chose to humour her, knowing that was not what she alluded to, however, at least with light humour, things would be tolerable. her hands decorated pretty stars , a santa and a reindeer, remaining on task.
" do you fancy getting some air with me ? it's all become a little to stuffy in here . " in truth , she needed some peace, she was overcome by social expectation , which she believed she wasn't fitting the bill for. she wanted to fit in , in a new town which had opportunities and this excited her , but she also begun to feel the pressure.
"something about this time of year fills me with dread , i don't know what it is " cassie sighed , with a frown apparent on her face. she did not often enjoy christmas, after her mother's passing , she is as left with a feeling of rejection and loneliness, a new town didn't change this for her. "fancy getting some s'mores and some mulled wine? i need a distraction."

backstory:
Cassie Blake was born on March 28, 1995 to Amelia Blake and John Blackwell. Shortly before Cassie's birth, John betrayed Amelia by having an affair with Elizabeth Meade which resulted in her half-sister Diana Meade being born less than a month later. John also summoned demons which resulted in Amelia leaving him prior to the events of the Boatyard Fire. Sara Armstrong stated in the Witness flashback Amelia would never forgive John for what he did to her and that Amelia helped Ethan in the plot to kill John which backfired and led to the death of half the members of the Circle. Later consumed by guilt and stripped of her magic, Amelia abandoned what was left her coven by moving to Los Angeles with Cassie. Amelia had to keep witchcraft and Cassie's magic legacy along with the truth about her father a secret from her daughter prior to her death
Cassie was a happy, normal teenage girl until her mother Amelia died in what appeared to be a tragic accidental fire but not such as an accident. Orphaned and deeply saddened, Cassie moved in with her warm and loving grandmother Jane in the beautiful small town of Chance Harbor, Washington - the town her mother left so many years before - where the residents seems to know more about Cassie than she does about herself. As Cassie gets to know her high school classmates, including sweet-natured Diana, her handsome boyfriend Adam, brooding loner Nick, mean-girl Faye and her sidekick Melissa, strange and frightening things begin to happen. When her new friends explain they are all descended from powerful witches and they've been waiting for Cassie to join them and complete a new generation of the Secret Circle, Cassie refuses to believe them - until Adam shows her how to unlock her incredible magical powers. But it's not until Cassie discovers a message from her mother in an old leather-bound book of spells hidden in her mother's childhood bedroom, that she understands her true and dangerous destiny. What Cassie and the others don't yet know is that darker powers are at play, powers that might be linked to the adults in the town, including Diana's father and Faye's mother - and that Cassie's mother's death might not have been an accident. But the more time passes by, the more Cassie gets confident of herself and develops her incredible potential.
Alongside her friends, Cassie has moved to Beacon Hills , being pulled there and being unsure of the consequence.
