Name: Marnie Piper (Cromwell) Nicknames: None Age: 29 Birthday: October 17, 1994 Height: 5âČ5âł Sexuality: Straight Occupation: Witch
Dylan scrunched his nose in return at his older sister, deciding not to throw an insult back at her even though he easily could have â sometimes it was better to be the bigger person than to stoop to her childish behaviors. Instead, he steered the subject away from himself and put Marnie on the defense, which seemingly wasnât her strong suit. Dylan rolled his eyes as she played dumb. âI mean, itâs pretty obvious â he moves here after you make him more attractive, you spend all your time together ⊠Iâm just surprised neither of you has made a move yet.â Not that Dylan thought that Marnie and Luke would make a good couple, he was still on the fence about that. âOr is he already getting a huge ego and becoming unbearable to be around for too long? If thatâs the case, I saw that coming from a mile away.â
Marnie immediately wanted to counter his point that she had made Luke more attractive with the same response she always gave the goblin himselfâthat she hadnât made him any more attractive, only more humanâbut she kept it to herself. It wasnât the kind of thing that would support her defense against Dylanâs accusations, considering he was clearly insinuating that she and Luke were into each otherâŠHearing him lay it out so bluntly was a strange shock to the system. Maybe she shouldnât bother trying to deny it at this point. The girlish part of her heart even wanted to lean forward and ask, Do you really think? But despite how close she was with her brother, he was the last person she would want to have girl talk with, and she was also old enough to be more realistic than romantic. Gods, was she ever a sucker for romance, but in this case there was too much working against the idea.
âAs worried as I am for his ego, itâs not that. And we donât spend all our time together,â she corrected. Luke had friends he didnât introduce her to, for one thing, not that she had any particular feelings about that. They did still spend a lot of time together, and could they be blamed for that when their friendship had been long-distance for so long? âAnyway, itâs not that simple,â she added. âHave I thought about it, yeah, butâŠâ Despite flirting with her when they met on her first visit to Halloweentown, Luke had never asked her out over the years; there was an unspoken truth lingering between them that it would have been too complicated with him living there and her in the mortal world. And even though they were both in the same dimension now, that might not last forever. âHe loves it here, and I love Halloweentown.â That was all she said, but more went unspoken, implied. What if they did date and it went so well they wanted to stay together, but couldnât agree where to settle down? Having to break up with someone you loved because you wanted different things in life would be devastating, but having that break-up with a best friend would be even worse. Marnie had been through plenty of heartbreaks in this life, but that was the kind she wouldnât know how to come back from.
Luke always enjoyed seeing Marnieâs smile, probably having a goofy grin on his own face as he was appreciating the moment with her. It was still something he was adjusting to, being able to see Marnie so often when he was used to rarely seeing her at all in Halloweentown. He realized now that he was getting a little sentimental, but the change in subject shook him from his thoughts. The redhead shrugged. âSettling in has been a breeze, I feel like I was made to live here,â he admitted honestly. Even with his secret second job, things had been smooth sailing for him thus far. âMy jobâs cool, the people here are great so far.â He wondered how different heâd be treated if he was still in his goblin form, which was another reason he much preferred his new face; he didn't have to worry about judgment. âWhat? Didnât expect me to hate it here already, did you?" He chuckled teasingly, "You know you canât get rid of me that easy.â
Although she wanted to be so happy for Luke that he was happy here, hearing that he felt like he was made to live here made Marnieâs heart sink, because that was exactly how she felt about Halloweentown. It was like he was unintentionally confirming her unvoiced fear that the mortal realm would be his permanent home at the end of the day, when it wasnât hersâŠShe seriously needed to get a hold of herself and stop mourning something that hadnât died yet. It wasnât like she was leaving yet. Be less selfish, she scolded her heart. Maybe you canât keep him, but youâre still excited for him. âWho said I was trying to get rid of you? If it was Dylan, donât listen to a word he says,â she answered Lukeâs teasing with her own. âIâm glad youâre adjusting well. ReallyâŠWhen are you going to introduce me to your new friends, huh?â
Despite already loving it in this new home of his, Luke didn't have a clear image of his future, whether he'd eventually want to go back to his old life and his original home, along with his real appearance. It all seemed like a big bummer when thinking about it now â he'd hardly even been in the mortal world that long yet â so it was easy to brush it off as a problem for his future self. Instead, he was just living in the moment, enjoying the now since it had always been hard to live that way back home. More specifically, he was enjoying his time now with Marnie.
"Don't worry, I'm not floating away anytime soon," Luke promised with a grin, giving her a light nudge with his arm after she poked his forehead. Of course, he was flattered as she continued to compliment his goblin form, but he still struggled to agree. There was no use in going back and forth and trying to change her mind, that was for sure. "Yeah, yeah, whatever," he attempted to brush her off instead. "We don't have to get all sentimental about it."
âGood.â Marnie smiled back at Luke as he promised not to float away, part of her wanting to say more, like I donât know what Iâd do if you did and I need you around, but that would be way too cheesy and he didnât want to get sentimental anyway. She had to shake this funk hanging around her head that things were already different now, and only continuing to change in a way she was unsure about. The floating away thing was a joke, but if they translated it to literal terms, she really didnât want Luke to be carried away with his new lifestyle and forget other things that matteredâŠ
âOkay, so, apart from your new faceâŠHow have you been settling in lately?â she asked. âHowâs the mortal world been treating you?â Marnie was sure life here was pleasant enough for Luke if he was in such high spiritsâand as worried as she was about his ego getting supercharged or him liking it too much here and never wanting to move back to Halloweentown, she did want him to be happy here. This was her world, too, and she knew how long heâd been wanting to be part of it.
"I figured you must be blackmailing that poor girl to hang out with you." -@witchmarnie
"Hilarious," Dylan answered dryly, not even a hint of a smile forming. He didn't take offense despite his sarcastic tone. He was more than used to the way he and Marnie were with each other. "Despite what you may believe, there actually are girls out there that share similar interests as me." He wouldn't point out the fact that in the face of his friendliness and flirting, Wendy still had eyes for someone else. Whether things ever became more between them or not, they were still friends regardless. "Besides, if we wanna talk about people we're hanging out with," he began, ready to uno-reverse on his older sister, "why don't we talk about what's going on between you and Luke?"
âSure there are,â Marnie agreed. A little nerd fish for every nerd in the sea, even. âBut theyâd still have to get past your face.â She scrunched her nose teasingly at him. No matter how old they got or how much they actually loved each other, it was still their job as brother and sister to roast one another at every chance possible. The only problem was having to take it as well as you were able to dish itâwhich the eldest Piper sibling wasnât sure was her strong suit. As Dylan flipped the conversation around on her to question her own friendship with Luke, she frowned. âWhat about me and Luke? Thereâs nothing to talk about.â
Binx smiled. He didn't feel the need to go out of his way to impress Sophie's sister. Instead, he'd just prove himself by not fucking up again â from how he left Sophie hanging before, the bar wasn't all that high in doing better. Being there. Clearly, Marnie was content with his answer, too.
She seemed excited talking about her date to Binx, nodding along as he listened. It was interesting now, how dating someone put him in a whole new environment of people, stepping out of his comfort zone and becoming close with a magical family. His past self would have been absolutely horrified at the idea, but the more he was around Sophie, the less crazy it felt. She was still the same Sophie he'd met before he knew she was a witch, the same one that made him want to put himself out there in the first place after all this time. "Wow, so is that why he moved here? Be closer to you?" He asked curiously, smiling again as she teased him. At least she had a sense of humor. "You and Sophie have a brother too, right? Where's he?"
The question of Luke having moved just to be closer to her made Marnieâs heart jump in surprise. Wasnât that an idea? She had never felt the need to ask why Luke wanted to live here; it seemed pretty obvious since they were younger that heâd rather be around humans than in Halloweentown. It was merely a matter of time before he made the jump. Binx just didnât know any of that, so he was assuming things. She shrugged it off. âOh, no. Heâs always loved the area.â Mortal world, she thought. âPlus, I donât think he really had much family to tie him to his hometownâŠNot like usâour grandma still lives there, but we were raised here. Best of both worlds.â
When he inquired about their brother, she smiled wryly. âYeah, Dylanâbut heâs honestly not much of a warlock either. He basically only uses magic to read faster.â Marnie rolled her eyes. Her brother was the biggest nerd she knew, and she would never miss the opportunity to tease him, to his face or behind his back, no matter how old they got. It came with the territory of their sibling relationship, even if he was one of her best friends at the same time. âHeâs probably at home getting ready for a sensible bedtime.â
Luke grinned as Marnie rolled her eyes. He was beginning to get much more comfortable in the mortal world, specifically within his own, very handsome human form. He hoped he'd never have to see his ugly goblin form ever again, truthfully. Marnie gave him the reminder that his new look wouldn't be going anywhere anytime soon, though sometimes it felt too good to be true. This time, he rolled his eyes. "Cause you're the only one who prefers the old me," he reminded her, as if it were really that simple. "Which, I guess can be a good thing. You know just how to humble me."
The real you, Marnie wanted to remind Luke when he referred to his goblin form as the old him (which was probably precisely the kind of humbling he was referring to.) She didnât really like to think of his new look with permanence, as something that would be sticking around forever, but the longer he lived here the less likely it seemed that he would ever choose to move back home. It made her sad to imagine their friendship going back to being long distance whenever she eventually settled down in Halloweentown as she had always planned for herself. She didnât know exactly when that day would come, but it was inevitable, and if Luke was still as in love with humanity by then as he always had beenâŠ
Marnie let out a little half-scoff, half-sigh, gathering herself to maintain the playful tone of their conversation. She wasnât going to rain on her best friendâs parade just because she got a little sad. âIf I donât keep you humble, who will? Youâre going to float away with that inflated ego of yours.â She poked his forehead as if trying to pop a hole in the aforementioned ego. âBut I stand by that looking human doesn't make you look more handsome. You were a handsome goblin.â
@goblinboyluke said: "I probably look in the mirror 24 times a day just to be sure I'm still so darned handsome"
Marnie rolled her eyes; even if Luke was joking, she didnât doubt the number heâd provided as a low estimate of how often he checked himself out. Heâd turned into a real Narcissus since getting his human face back on. She still wasnât sure if she should just be glad that he enjoyed her magical handiwork so much, or concerned about his ego growing at such an alarming rate. âYouâre not gonna turn back into a pumpkin at midnight, Cinderella,â she promised, her tone teasing and just this side of bemused. âI still donât get why you prefer this face so much anyway.â
It was no surprise that Dane had gotten wrapped up in the drug business that connected to Halloweentown â his cousin wanted nothing to do with it of course, but whatever. Dane had made a new friend through Luke Phillips and was sort of working alongside him now. It beat only working for Hades and doing his bullshit bidding all the time. Upon getting closer to Luke, Dane had also caught sight of his little friend (or more than a friend, perhaps?) Marnie Piper. Being the nosy type he was, always wanting to squeeze into somewhere he didn't belong and stir a little chaos, he wanted to meet her personally, both to get to know her and to learn more about their mutual redheaded friend. He'd used his shapeshifting abilities to figure out where a good place was to find her at frequently, deciding that a casual bump-in at her usual coffee shop would be the easiest start. A smile placed itself on his lips as she finally noticed him. "Sorry, was I staring? I couldn't help but recognize you â Luke's friend, right?" @witchmarnie
âFunny, Iâve lived here my whole lifeâLuke moves in a couple months ago and now Iâm Lukeâs friend. The Big Cheese is already making that big a name for himself, huh?â Marnie was only jokingly offended. She, of course, didnât recognize the other man outside of being an acquaintance of Lukeâs either. âMarnie Piper,â she provided, waiting for his name in return.
She didnât mention that, aside from not introducing them himself, Luke really hadnât even spoken much about his newfound friends. Maybe he was still settling in and seeing what stuck before bringing the new and old together. Either way, sheâd been happy enough that he was fitting in and carving out a life for himself in the mortal world like heâd always wanted, that she couldnât be too affronted not to be involved in all of it. But it was also nice to have a chance to meet one of the people Luke was spending a lot of time around now.
â No.Â
â Well I have. And now that I found out the truth, Iâm not gonna stay here and turn all boring and human like you.

"Please tell me this isn't about Gaston," were the first words out of Arthur's mouth as he sat across the table from his friend. After hearing how horrible of an idea it was from Helen, he had to admit that Marnie's plot to be an inside spy with one of the most dangerous Hunters in town was a bit ambitious. Not that he didn't think she couldn't pull it off, but the resources they'd need to ensure her safety were more than just Marnie coming to inform him, in his office, that she was going ahead with it. "Because, you know, I actually had a different idea to try and get to him, and it doesn't involve the potential of you getting killed, so I'm more inclined to go with that one. But, if this isn't about him, please, carry on," Arthur instructed, a raised brow given as he took a sip from his coffee.
Marnie blinked in surprise at the immediate and almost accusatory mention of Gaston. She hadnât even had her coffee yet. âNoâŠâ she said slowly, stretching the vowel out. âI havenât even heard from him in months. You know, now that I think about it, if heâd been someone I was actually interested in, it might have hurt a little to be dropped so cold.â As it was, she had let go of the idea of trying to gain intel from the hunter rather easily, considering both Arthur and Helen had been so vehemently against it, and that Gaston was one of the most insufferable people sheâd met. She might not have been able to sit through another one of his braggadocious stories about himself without making a face, even if he did give valuable insight into the hunters. âWhatâs your idea then?â
Binx had a feeling he'd be meeting Sophie's sister tonight, watching her stare the two down from across the way. After how Binx treated Sophie upon the realization that she was a witch though, he couldn't blame her. The first moment Binx was left alone without his date, the brunette approached him almost too casually â he remained casual too, smiling and holding his hand out. "You must be Marnie. I've heard a lot about you, too."
He watched her look around, assuming she was making sure Soph was out of earshot, and Binx was only nervous for a moment. Hearing that a potential threat was about to arise had him biting the inside of his cheek (Max had warned him to be careful getting involved with a witch after all. He hadn't even thought about her siblings and what they were capable of). However, as soon as Marnie did her threat as a sister, Binx relaxed. He could respect the hell out of her for that, a fellow oldest sibling that only wanted to protect his sister, too. Before, that was Emily; now, it was Dani. He nodded his head in understanding, matching her smile. "I already screwed up once. I don't plan on doing that again," he promised, genuinely meaning it. He wasn't sure what Sophie had and hadn't told Marnie, but he held off on emphasizing that Soph was the first person he was willing to have feelings for in three hundred years. The last thing Binx wanted to do was be irresponsible with this own heart, let alone hers. He wanted to level with Marnie though, to make sure that she didn't think he was a huge asshole. He glanced over at the redhead he'd seen with Sophie's sister earlier, nodding in his direction. "So, who's your friend?"
âGood.â The fact that Binx had acknowledged his mistake in his promise not to repeat it did a lot to settle Marnieâs concerns. A man who actually owned up to his faults and failures was already ahead of the majority of his peers. There were no excuses or explanations, just an acceptance and plan to do better. It didnât assuage all of Marnieâs apprehension, because he could very well still be lying, just a skilled manipulatorâand Heavens knew sheâd had experience dealing with that departmentâbut she could only take his word and how genuine he seemed now.
There was always going to be some loss of control in deciding to trust a person, but a life without trusting anybody wasnât a life at all, so what could one do but offer it and hope not to be disappointed? If Binx did anything to hurt Sophie again, they would cross that bridge when they came to it. But until then, Marnie was going to be nice and help her sister prove to the boy that not all witches were bad. Magical and mortal harmony was kind of a big deal to her. Speaking of whichâŠShe looked over her shoulder at where Binx had directed her attention and caught sight of Luke, her smile turning genuine.
âOh, Luke! He just moved here from out of town,â she explained, unsure whether Sophie had told Binx anything about Halloweentown or not, and therefore not wanting to be the one to spill. âWeâve actually been friends since we were thirteen. Wow, time flies.â She looked back at Luke, catching his attention this time and sending him a thumbs up to indicate that all was going well with the shovel talk before facing Binx again. âBut donât worry, heâs not a warlock,â she teased.
@maxximillions
Marnie generally preferred to visit and support local stores in Halloweentown whenever she needed to restock on potion ingredients and other witch necessities, but when she didnât have time in her schedule to make visits all the way through the portal and back, she settled for shops in the mortal realm. It just took knowing which ones were genuine sellers for magical wares rather than hokey gimmicky stuffâalthough Marnie had always loved the gimmicky stuff simply before she knew she was a witch and still did for the aesthetic. That had its place for other humans; it was just nice knowing that there were authentic shops to cover her needs here. Toil & Trouble also sold a lot of books about magical lore that she hadnât really dived into herself, but seeing a man about her age who looked utterly out of place here paging through them, she decided to be friendly and ask him if they were any good. What came out instead was, âI think youâre supposed to buy before you read." She glanced at the title he was holding. "Are you looking to become a witch?â
Even though the stupid mask Luke was wearing was already starting to annoy him (who wanted to wear something like this anyway? Why did people want to hide their faces at a fancy event? He was still trying to make sense of some of the mortal traditions around here) the redhead was still happy to be with Marnie tonight for her favorite holiday. He did prefer this to actually dressing up in a costume, of course, always having fun dressing himself up and looking nice. Luke watched as Marnie's eyes followed Sophie and her date as the two of them stood a few feet away. He smiled and shook his head, lifting the mask from his face. "Are you gonna be on Sister Duty like this all night?" He asked, though not in an accusatory tone. Sure, Luke wanted to have fun and not stalk the two the entire night, but he knew that Sophie was important to Marnie, so he wouldn't push her at all. "Maybe we should've made Dylan come for Sophie watch. He wouldn't have had a date anyway." @witchmarnie
âSorry.â Marnie pulled her attention away from Sophie and her date to flash an apologetic sort of smile towards her own. âAs soon as I get a chance to talk to this guy and make sure he knows whatâs good for him, then Iâll be able to relax.â Even if Luke had the patience of a saint to put up with her focusing a little too much on her little sister since theyâd arrived, she did feel bad for neglecting him. He had just moved to town recently and this was his first major party in the mortal worldâonly fitting that it was Halloween-centeredâso Marnie really should be making sure he enjoyed himself as well. Luckily, besides obviously not liking the mask, he seemed to be having enough of a good time. His sense of humor was still intact to say the least.
Marnie couldnât resist a laugh at the expense of her brother with the dig about him being unable to find a date. âYou got that right. But we really could have used him here for babysitting duty,â she joked along. Treating her younger siblings as a loser and a child respectively were done out of familial affection; perhaps Marnie should have been a little more mature at this point, but Luke had a sassy side that only brought her own out to play even moreâit had always been like that. âSo what would you suggest instead of spying on my little sister and her date all night? Want a drink? Wanna dance?â
@itsscphiie
âAre you having a good time?â Marnie pulled her sister aside for a check-in halfway through the night as was routine for the girls during any kind of event, but this time she was actually concerned for the answerâhoping for a positive yet ready to take initiative in case of a negative. Marnie had already had a nice little chat with Sophieâs date early in the evening, so she wasnât truly expecting any trouble in paradise at this point, but she was sure going to be there at the first sign of it. Binx would probably earn her trust sooner than later and she wouldnât have to worry anymore, but for now it was just a relief to see the smile on her little sisterâs face. Marnie returned the grin immediately, but still waited for a verbal answer to be sure. âYou look beautiful, Soph.â
