This one is not a spell, but different methods to create invisible writing to keep your craft a secret.
There are many methods of making invisible inks. Some are easier than others. Let’s start with some of the easier ones, then we will move into some that are not necessarily invisible, but with actually glow.
Invisible Ink From the Kitchen
Baking Soda Ink
~Mix ¼ cup (60ml) of baking soda with an equal amount of water. Use a Q-tip, thin brush or toothpick to write with the mixture on a piece of paper. Wait until it dries, then with a larger paint brush or sponge, paint over the paper with grape juice concentrate.
Milk Ink
~Put some milk in a small bowl, then use a Q-tip or small brush to write with the milk on a piece of paper. Let the message dry, then use heat to see the message. Be safe, but hold the paper close to a light bulb to heat the paper or in the heat over a candle flame. (FIRE SAFETY, do not set the paper on the light bulb, and do not let the paper touch the flame!)
Lemon Ink
~Squeeze the juice of a lemon into a bowl, then use a Q-tip or small brush and then write on the paper. Just make sure not to use too much. After it dries, heat the paper in a similar way as with the milk. A hair dryer is also a viable option. Another way is to salt the message as it dries, then brush the salt away and color over it with a wax crayon.
Artsy Inks
White Crayon Messages
~This one is simple, write on a piece of paper with a white crayon, then paint over it with watercolors and a brush.
Highlighter Ink (THIS ONE GLOWS!!!)
~Take a highlighter, any color you choose is fine, and take the bottom off with a pair of pliers, taking out the ink cartridge and the tip (don’t destroy it, as you’ll need it to write with.) Boil some water in a cup or in a teapot and pour it into a cup, then place the ink cartridge into the hot water, allowing it to dissolve. Once the liquid is mostly clear, but still colored, Put the tube and tip back into the highlighter. Dip the tip into the ink and write away! Find a UV or black-light bulb, and your message will be revealed. (not all highlighters will glow!)
Vaseline/ Petroleum Jelly (GLOWS)
~Dip a Q-tip in some Vaseline or petroleum jelly and write your message as smoothly as possible. Turn off the lights and use a black light to reveal what you have written.
**There will be more methods added to this list. As I find more recipes and methods that are SAFE for every day use, I will add them!**

Contacting your spirit guides
Alright so of course everything in this guide is according to my path and may not be applicable to anyone but me. But I have been asked this question several times so I will take a swing at it.
So I guess the question is, does everyone have a spirit guide? Do you have a spirit guide(s)? I think the answer is yes. Every soul has guides. But they may not be the most active forces in our lives, especially if they have been ignored. But if you honor your guides, and actively seek a relationship with them, then they can return to us and help us in amazing ways.
This is going to end up being a long post because I want to be thorough.
One problem with working with spirit guides is that there are a lot of spirits – not necessarily your friends – who would love to be put in the position of ‘guide’. They would love to be treated with honor and respect, receive offerings, and be put in a position of authority over you. So it is important to always be very careful when working with spirits.
You can minimize risk in these ways:
- Have defenses in your working area that keep out malicious or ill-intending spirits. Also have defenses against any sort of spirit you do not want to work with. For example, if you do not want to work with demonic spirits – even if one could become your helpful guide – put defenses up against demons.
- Always call upon specific spirits and banish other spirits. For example, don’t say, “this offering is for the spirits around me.” Say, “this offering is for my true spirit guides who stand by my side and support me.” Then, don’t say, “spirits begone,” but rather say, “only my true spirit guides may remain; all other spirits, leave now.”
- Faithfully record all interactions you have with spirits, including feelings, visions, dreams, and divinations. Do not ignore fear, dread, anxiety, or other bad feelings. There is a time and a place to push through bad feelings. Beginner spirit work is NOT that time. Now I am not saying that a lovely and sweet spirit is always trustworthy, but if a spirit gives you a bad feeling, just ask it to leave.
- Act with courtesy and respect at all times. I believe people do have a reputation among spirits. If you act with honesty and integrity towards spirits, you can look forward to a life rich with spirit companions in kind. If you are backhanded, dishonest, rude, prying, or manipulative, expect similar spirits to enter your life.
- Don’t break promises to spirits. The best way to avoid this is to not make promises to spirits. Don’t get over-excited or over-determined and make grandiose promises that will be tough for you to keep. If you have never had a regular spiritual schedule, don’t promise to make daily or even weekly offerings, or meet-ups, or anything else. Do what you can, without oath.
To begin, cleanse your working space. This is not a cleansing guide, so use any simple technique that you enjoy. If you are not familiar with how to cleanse a space, now is a great time to learn. Don’t forget to set up your basic protections against malific spirits.
Offerings
Spirits pay attention to offerings. It is our human way of saying, “you are important enough to me that I will sacrifice something to you, no matter how small.” Offerings also have a practical use; spirits need food, too. I offer incense to my guides almost daily, whiskey weekly, and on special occasions, beer and baked goods. Good offerings are incense and candles if you can light fire, but also any kind of food (especially home-made), alcohol, and tobacco. A glass of fresh water is a good offering for any kind of spirit. In general, avoid foods with excess salt. If foodstuff is not something you can offer, make origami toys, find fresh flowers, offer coins, or gather anything that has value and give it to the spirits. Although beliefs differ, once you give something to the spirits, it is no longer yours and should not be treated as such.
In order to contact your spirit guides through offerings, you need to make an effort to give offerings regularly. Doing it once or twice will probably not be enough.
Once your working space is cleansed and protected, lay out your offerings. Use this rite or any rite of offering:
“I, [your name] wish to make an offering of [your offering].
To the spirits that guide me, spirits who help. Spirits who support me, spirits who protect me. I call you all to this place to receive my offering. To all you who have a positive influence on my life, I thank you. Please take this offering as a sign of my gratitude.”
At this point, try taking a pendulum, using your sixth sense, or any other method you prefer, and determine whether or not spirits are with you. If they are, say,
“Spirits who guide me, spirits who help, spirits who support me, spirits who protect me: I want to know you better, and have a good relationship with you. Will you talk to me now?”
Determine the answer through your pendulum or any other method. If they are willing to speak, engage in meditation, divine, use your sixth sense, or communicate in any way you know how. Speak to the spirits plainly about your goals and you desires, and why you want to know them.
When you are done communicating, close the offering. Say this or any other closing rite:
“Spirits who have come to enjoy this offering, the window of our communion is closing. I pray you enjoyed what I have for you. I pray you have heard my words. Return to your abodes and habitations, but do not forget me.”
If you did not receive any indication that spirits are nearby, do not worry. Sometimes these things take time. Let your offerings sit for several minutes and try again. If there is still no result, close the offering rite just as if spirits were there. Try again the next day.
Request for communication
Offerings are a good way to attract the attention of any spirit, but it can also help to just address the Universe or Nature directly. During a time where you feel most connected to the world, find a private place where you feel that the universe will be able to hear you. Your message will be received no matter where you are, but it is nice to ‘feel’ that you are heard.
Open up and speak about your desire to meet your spirit guides. If you are not interested in speaking aloud, your thoughts will do just fine. ‘Project’ your thoughts out in to the universe.
Speak about why you want to meet your guides. Include what you are willing to do in order to meet them, and how they can best contact you. It is important that you offer something back. Remember that your guides are not your servants and they do not exist to serve you. Meet them half way. One way to do this is to set aside special meditation or divination time so that guides have a time and place to contact you.
Some random tips for working with spirit guides:
- I do not believe that most spirits have the same concept of ‘ego’ or ‘self’ that humans have, which is why many of us get confusing answers when we ask a spirit, “what are you?” Don’t be put off if you can’t immediately label or classify your guides. Let this process come naturally through visions, dreams, and other processes.
- Your guides may be animals, mythical creatures, humans, nature spirits, mineral or plant spirits, or any number of classifications we give to spirits. Don’t be too focused on believing you have a certain guide, or that guides are just one sort of spirit. Be open-minded.
- Spirits LIE. Spirits will lie to you and tell you that they are your guide, guardian, etc. when in reality they are no such thing. Do not immediately trust any spirit. Give your relationship time and watch how the spirit interacts with you, what it asks from you, and what it is getting out of your relationship. Minimize risks by having smart defenses, by setting boundaries, and by being a smart, discerning witch.
- Work with your guides regularly, but do not depend on them for every little thing.

SOAP Journaling: A Devotional Framework
One of the things I’ve been looking for, for ages now really, is the equivalent of what I got out of doing devotionals when I was still Christian. For those that don’t know, a lot of churches, but fundamentalist ones in particular I’ve noticed, often use little booklets for guided biblical study to help cultivate a regular practice. I usually encountered them at Bible Camp or on Mission Trips with the goal being for people to spend time alone focusing on the same themes.
While they could be problematic, they did offer me something I immediately lost when I became pagan - a structured way to deepen my spirituality that didn’t require other people. Ritual is often too energetically demanding of me to use as a consistent source spiritual growth. Studying and researching is amazing but it usually happens organically, it’s hard to cement it into a coherent practice.
That’s when I went digging through Christian blogs to see what ideas were out there in the way of devotional frameworks. How did people write these devotionals? There admittedly wasn’t much, but one such framework I stumbled on to that seemed promising was SOAP Journaling.
SOAP stands for:
Scripture
Observations
Application
Prayer
I’ve only experimented with this a little bit at this point and I don’t intend for this post to be definitive. What I want to do is put this out to the pagan community for other people to experiment with. I know there have to be others that are looking for a more structured spiritual practice that isn’t contingent on how much energy you have or what materials you can get your hands on.
Scripture
Scripture can loosely be understood to be spiritually significant text. It’s straightforward when approaching this from Christian perspective. So for the Christian witches among us, the Bible might be all you need in this regard.
I’ve personally been experimenting with using Tarot Cards as scripture. 3-4 cards seem to be the ideal amount. For those still in the closet - playing cards or dice would work here just as well. I found with the DnD Dice system I posted about earlier that the complexity was similar to about 3-4 cards though I’ve yet to plug them into this framework.
Historical texts could work well - histories, hymns, academic papers, general spiritual texts. Long form tumblr posts, modern myths, youtube videos - so many things qualify as spiritually significant text that it’s impossible to list them all here. I’d really love to see what people use in this category. I could use the inspiration to branch out from divinatory sources.
Observations
When I work with tarot as text, I literally just write down the meanings of the cards here. When I’ve processed the meanings, I might apply my own take to sort through the particulars of my situation in relation to them, make a note of any intuitive hunches I’ve got, and try to reflect on my biases.
I think what makes a good observation section is the same as taking good notes. Whatever helps you process what you’re seeing, hearing, and feeling. At the end of the observation section, I aim to feel like I’ve really understood what the cards are trying to convey to me or have the self awareness to know that I’m just not able to.
Application
This section is usually short for me. It’s usually a few notes on actual material actions I know I need to take in response to the observations along with some notes on general life lessons. This section varies by how in my face the cards decide to be honestly.
I think if I was using other materials I’d likely include other things I wanted to look up and a list of other possible scripture sources that might tie in with whatever I’m working with. Here again I think there’s a lot of room for innovation. I think the definition of application here could really be expanded.
Maybe it’s ritual, spellwork, devotional artwork or other creative practices. I want to experiment heavily here. I hope others will share what works for them.
Prayer
I usually pray, I will admit. To whichever of my deities seems most interested, but usually to the Morrigan. I have meditated sometimes. I don’t think this has to be theistic for those atheist witches out there. I think of it as a way to sit with the message and wrap up the whole affair in a meaningful way. I imagine there’s a multitude of ways to do this that I haven’t considered honestly.
Closing Thoughts
This is the framework I’m likely to use for the next week or two of #100DaysOfTarot which is one of the reasons I wanted to post about it; so there would be a frame of reference for the time of introspection and practice I’m doing. I’ve found this framework pretty accessible so far but I’m excited to see how other people innovate. If you know of anyone else doing something like this - please link me! I’m really into testing and learning about frameworks in this vein.
As always, if you have any questions let me know and I hope this helps!
It’s been a fruitful journey for me so far.
🌙 Sigil Creation Masterpost ⭐
***Warning: This is a very long post***
So I just sent in my application for a new apartment today, and I realized an hour before work that I never did any type of magick to make sure the application got approved! With basically no time left before I had to leave for work, I was panicking because my likelihood of being approved is pretty if-y. Then, it dawned on me: I could make a sigil.
Today reminded me of how much I love sigils. They’re really one of the quickest and easiest types of magick, yet they yield some of the most incredible results if utilized effectively. I realized, though, that I don’t have a post about them anywhere on this blog! So here goes.
What is a sigil?
A sigil is essentially an energy that has been converted into a drawing. You begin with an intention (ie: “My application is approved”, “I receive a large sum of money this week”, “I am safe and protected”, etc.). Then, you use your subconscious mind to shape that intention into a symbol. The symbol can take on any shape, any size, any color, any complexity or simplicity. Once you have crafted the sigil, it contains the energy of your intention. It can then be carried, burned, inscribed, worn, or any number of other actions which allow the sigil to attract your desire to you.
How does it work?
Everything in the universe is energy, in all planes of existence. The lower you descend through these planes, though, the more dense this energy becomes. In our physical world, energy is so dense that it presents the illusion of matter, of physical substance.
Your conscious mind operates in this physical world, where energy is very concrete. This part of you is rational, cognizant, and usually in control of your actions. This is the part of your mind that moves through the world on a day-to-day basis and allows you to function as a member of society. Because this part of your mind is so caught up in your physical existence, though, it isn’t really able to perceive metaphysical energy. It buys into the illusion of physical substance, of matter, and prevents you from completely connecting energetically with everything around you.
Your soul, on the other hand, is a part of you that operates in higher dimensions where energy is very fluid. It completely disregards the illusion of physical substance and recognizes that everything around you truly is just energy. This is the part of you that creates art, that can feel love, that crafts your intuition, and that can manipulate the energies of the world around you.
Your subconscious is a special part of you, though, because it exists somewhere in between, mediating between your conscious mind and your soul and linking the two together. Your subconscious mind is therefore able to translate your thoughts and intentions back and forth between matter and energy, allowing you - among many other things - to perform magick.
In the case of sigils, your conscious mind creates an intention. Let’s say, “I need a new apartment.” You then take that intention and translate it into the language of energy using any number of techniques that harness your creative subconscious. When the process is finished, you have a unique symbol which represents that intention and contains its unique essence. You have essentially ‘converted’ your desire into a magickal energy.
How do I make a sigil?
There actually is no right or wrong way to create a sigil. When you are sitting in class or at work, bored out of your mind, and you start to doodle in the corner of a piece of a paper - you are creating a sigil. Your subconscious is taking an energy that your soul perceives somewhere and is expressing it in the form of a drawing. The process is as natural to us as breathing, really. Because everyone’s mind is unique, though, it will take some trial and error to figure out which method works best for you.
1) Some people enjoy a very raw method.
This involves a lot of practice with meditative states of mind. Essentially, you begin by breaking out a pen and paper. Stare at the blank paper in front of you, and hold your intention in your mind. Mull it over in your head. Truly try to visualize yourself accomplishing this goal. Then, when you feel that the intention is secure in your mind, pick up the paper and just begin to draw. Create squiggles or broad strokes, straight lines or nonsensical swirls. Do not think about your actions: just allow the pen to glide across the paper wherever it wants to go.
Eventually, you’ll reach a point where the drawing feels ‘complete’. Once you reach this point, put the pen down and examine the drawing. Study each individual part. See what pieces you like and what pieces feel a bit off. Then, pick the pen back up, and re-draw your sigil. This time, though, tweak it to be slightly more pleasing. Fix the details that feel off. Repeat this process of redrawing and refining it until the whole thing feels ‘right’. The final product is your sigil.
2) Some people prefer a more structured method.
With the previous method, you are essentially plucking the sigil straight out of your subconscious with no assistance. For some people (including myself) this method can be effective but VERY time-consuming. I also have ADHD, and so it can often be difficult to invent a sigil from scratch - especially if I’m under stress or pressure.
Therefore, I personally prefer this structured method. I know I’ve heard of this before from some source or other, but I’m unsure who originally invented it. I do know, though, that it is discussed extensively in The Chaos Protocols by Gordon White, which is where I was recently reminded of it. That’s a phenomenal book, btw, if any of you are interested in exploring practical chaos magick.
Basically, this method allows you to tap into your creative subconscious while still giving your conscious mind enough of a task to keep it preoccupied.
Begin by writing out your intention. This should be a complete sentence written in the present tense and in active voice. I have a new apartment. Large sums of money come to me. I am safe and protected.
After writing down a phrase you feel comfortable with, cross out all of the vowels. Then cross out all of the multiple copies of letters. You will use what is left - a string of consonants - to create your sigil.
Ex: (Intention) I AM SAFE AND PROTECTED
(Remove vowels) M SF ND PRTCTD
(Remove double consonants) M SF ND PRTC
The final string of consonants to be used is then: M S F N D P R T C
Once you have your string of consonants, begin arranging them into different shapes. Feel free to invert them, flip them upside down, stretch and contort them, overlap them, or whatever feels right. For your first draft, just try to figure out where each of the letters goes relative to the others. Create a diagram where every letter is used. Don’t worry, this first draft won’t be pretty, and it won’t feel complete. Just try to make it satisfying to you in that every letter is where it should be.
Then, in your second draft, redraw the sigil. Stylize it this time, however. Allow the concrete shape of the letters to fall away, and tweak the details to make it feel pleasing. If a line would feel better as a curve, change it. If this piece should be longer, change it. If this part would be better with three dots and an arrow above it, change it. Keep refining it with however many drafts it takes until the sigil feels ‘right’.
3) Some people prefer something different altogether.
There are an infinite number of other ways to create sigils. These are just two of the most popular that I’ve encountered. Some other very notable mentions include:
Using a Sigil Wheel - Create a circle that is subdivided into 26 sections; label each section with a letter. Then, create an intention phrase. Once you have your phrase, take a pen and place the tip on the section of your sigil wheel that corresponds with the first letter of your phrase. Then, trace a pattern across the wheel from letter to letter, following the order of letters in your intention phrase. The final assortment of lines serves as your sigil.
Using Kamea - Kamea (defined very loosely) is a Middle Eastern type of planetary magick. Basically, the belief is that every planet in our solar system has a spirit - a consciousness - attached to it, which can be appealed to for specific blessings. A ‘kamea’ is a unique square grid of numbers that is specifically designed to tap into the energy of each planet’s consciousness. Using different methods, a sigil can be crafted by using the numbers on the kamea, allowing you to tap into the energy of that spirit for help. I’m unsure of the methodology, but I’ve also heard of kamea’s being created for specific elemental energies as well as deities.
Using Runes and Bind Runes - I have not used this process myself because I haven’t worked extensively with Germanic and Nordic magickal systems. However, I do know that this is a very popular type of sigil magick, especially on tumblr. Runes are a type of language originating in Germanic and Nordic cultures several thousand years ago. They are one part literary system, one part magickal system. I don’t know the full mythology, but I know that in some beliefs, the runes were created by Odin after receiving inspiration from the source of all things. Each rune is a vastly complex magickal energy which represents an energy current in nature. These runes can be utilized individually or in conjunction with each other (known as a bind rune) for a plethora of purposes, including in sigil magick.
How do I activate and use a sigil?
The final important step in sigil creation is activation. Once you have translated your intention into a magickal symbol, you have to imbue it with a magickal charge so that it can begin attracting your intention to you. There are literally dozens and dozens of different ways to activate a sigil. Whichever one you use will depend on personal taste more than anything else.
Meditating with the sigil and charging it with your energy the old-fashioned, chaos magick way
Leaving it out in the sunlight or moonlight
Letting it sit near some plants
Imbuing it with crystal or herb energy
Passing the sigil through smoke
Focusing on the sigil during orgasm
Literally any other method you can think of - there is no wrong way.
After the sigil has been activated, it is now charged and ready to do your bidding. This is where different schools of thought begin to break away from each other. No one can completely agree on the BEST way to use a sigil, so experiment, and see what works for you!
Some people believe you have to burn/rip up/destroy the sigil after activating it, which will release its energy and allow your intention to manifest.
Some people believe you have to hold onto the sigil and feed your energy into it until your intention manifests.
Some people believe you have to put the sigil somewhere that you can see it everyday, but in order for it to manifest, you have to wait until - one day - you forget what the sigil was even originally for. This belief suggests that, once you have forgotten the sigil’s purpose, its energy has left the piece of paper and is now actively manifesting in the real world.
Like I said, see what works best for you, because there really is no wrong way to perform this kind of magick. Make it personal to you! Give it your own style. And have fun with it, because this is definitely one of the types of magick that really allows you to express your creativity.
Brightest blessings, and best of luck 🕉

Comfort Items + Witchcraft
A collection of ideas on how you may incorporate your comfort item/s into your craft. Be creative, be specific, make it your own! This is just to get some ideas flowing <3
Stuffed animals:
Put small tumbled crystals in with the stuffing.
Make a crystal bracelet/necklace for them.
Make herb/spell sachets (or even a teeny spell bottle) and place inside.
Alternatively, sew on a little pocket and place the sachet/bottle in that!
Enchant to bring comfort/protection.
*Use as a physical tie for wards or spells.
Make little outfits - incorporate color correspondences, stitch sigils in them, add little pockets to hold herbs/crystals, etc.
Similar post (with more/different/specific ideas!) by @will-o-the-witch can be found by clicking here. Definitely check it out!
Blankets:
Stitch a sigil onto a corner (or use fabric paint).
Add a small pouch/pocket (with a flap) for herbs and crystals.
Spritz with an herbal spray.
Enchant to bring comfort/protection.
Color correspondences.
Make your own blanket and infuse magic into the stiches/rows. Be creative with the colors and patterns - how do they tie into what you intend to use the blanket for?
Other items/general ideas:
Hold and channel your energy + intention into the item.
*Use as a physical tie for wards/spells.
Draw/stitch/attach sigils.
Attach/include crystals.
Spritz with an herbal spray or attach herbs.
Utilize color correspondences/material correspondences.
Enchant the item itself, or attach something enchanted to it.
Things to keep in mind:
Cleansing. If you are using your comfort item to help protect from negative energies, I’d recommend cleansing it frequently!
Charging. How do you charge the magic you’ve added to your item?
Refreshing. With wards, spells, and enchantments, they tend to fade with time. When was the last time you refreshed it?
*Risks. Physical ties for wards can be affected when the ward is attacked/broken. Do you want to risk it? Also realize that there can be multiple layers to wards, you might use your comfort item as a smaller, more specific ward. (I recommend having multiple ward layers).
Have fun! Your comfort item is important to you, so what you do with it magically should feel good–not stressful or overwhelming!

The Ultimate Guide to Potion Bases
We all spend so much time thinking about the correspondences of the actual ingredients that go into our potions that we often forget to think about what the potion base represents! (At least I do.) It would be nice to have a list of all the various liquids that can be used in place of water. Naturally, I can’t think of everything but I think this is a pretty good starting point! What else can be used? Eventually, at some point down the road, I will compile all these thoughts into a book on potion making and want to include this! Keep in mind that these are my own correspondences. Let me know if you disagree or if you’d change anything up! Let’s see how big we can make this list. Also, I should probably note that not all of these liquids can be ingested. (Obviously.)
The List
Vinegar: Used for cleansing and purification potions. Lemon Juice: Used in hexing, cursing, or revenge potions. Cranberry Juice: Used in love potions. Apple Juice: Used in healing, knowledge, and youth potions. Ammonia: Used in banishing, cursing, purification, and protection Red Wine: Love potions and potions dealing with death and the afterlife. White Wine: Used in platonic love potions as well as success brews. Rum: Used in potions involving spirit work. Whisky: Another good base for potion work.
