Witches on a budget, I’m telling you, go to thrift stores. (I mean, if you want to. But I strongly recommend it.)
90% of my candle holders and candles in every conceivable color are from the local thrift store. One of them was literally a sealed package of witchcraft-specific candles with ritual instructions inside. I’ve found devotional statues, wooden boxes and shelves perfect for altars and witchy storage, all the interesting jars ever, seashells, stones, altar cloths and tarot deck cloth wraps, offering dishes, chalices, witchy books, tiny picture frames for ancestor pictures, and more. Most witchy things I see don’t even buy but leave behind because I don’t need them or they’re not relevant to my specific practices, but I’m always floored by how great they might be for others.
This post was inspired by the fact that I just bought handkerchiefs for devotional embroidery I’m going to work on, and an oracle deck in its original packaging (in a grab bag of other stuff I’m about to sort through, so maybe there’s more witchy stuff too!), for a total of $3. I’m serious. Just during a brief trip to my local Goodwill.
So, in conclusion, thrift stores? All the witchcraft supplies ever. Do some basic cleansing (usually just a quick mundane wash for things that have an interesting and safe energy to begin with) and you’re good to go.
If you want, reblog and tell me about your own thrifty witchy finds!

Festivals: A List of Greek Festivals and Holy Days
The following is an alphabetical list of Greek festivals and holy days. It is incomplete, and it is a work in progress. Most of the festivals on the list are Attic, but others are from other regions, and I will continue to add them as I learn more about them. Similarly, most of the dates given are based on the Attic calendar and I try to specify when that is not the case.
Holy Days and Festivals
Adonia The Adonia was a women’s festival held in late summer in honor of Adonis, a consort of Aphrodite who died tragically. The festival, observed privately by women of all classes, rather than by the greater community, took place in private homes rather than in a public temple or other site. During the Adonia, the women wept and mourned the death of Adonis, planting small, shallow roof gardens of quick-sprouting plants (such as lettuce or herbs) in broken pots and leaving them in the sun to wither and die, thus remembering the short life of beautiful Adonis. (Larson, Cults 124) The dead plants were then taken and thrown into the sea or other body of water. (Goff, Citizen 58) Another practice associated with the Adonia was the making of small Adonis images or dolls to be laid out for a mock burial. (Larson, Cults 125)
Amarysia The Amarysia was a festival of Artemis Amarysia, whose worship originated in Amarythus in Euboia, (Wycherley “Minor” 286) Artemis Amarysia, a major divinity in Eretria, had, in addition to her Olympian aspect, a strong chthonic character not often seen in this goddess (Walker Eretria 33) and may have derived from the earlier title of Potnia Theron or “Mistress of the Animals” (32)

Introduction to Aphrodite
This is my own experience with introducing myself to a deity. It might be different for others. But, I hope you enjoy and maybe learn a little bit.
• First, I cleansed self and the area, physically and spiritually. • Altar: - sun water. - blue, yellow, pink candles - seashells - incense for offerings. - Pink devotional candle/Rose Quartz to remind me of Aphrodite. • Cast Circle for protection with white candle. - Light candles and offerings. - Meditate and begin ritual. • I used a quick little prayer from Hellenic Polytheism Household Worship by Labrys. And then called upon the deity. “Oh Aphrodite, goddess of love and beauty, I call upon you to receive this offering and communicate with me, Styx, if it pleases you.” - I sat and listened to the stillness and used my tarot cards– some candles flickered ((no source of wind, no windows open)) and others had strong flames. I felt goosebumps and cold. When I felt she was near, I explained who I was, why I was here, and told her that I was very drawn to her for a bunch of reasons. She seemed to add on (through tarot). - 9 of Wands, 2 of Wands (reversed), 7 of cups. Darling, find resilience and strength. You have the opportunity to turn current circumstances into long term successes. I celebrate the fact that I have a dreamer here who wishes to worship, just know that you’ll have choices that may be presented to you, and not all will lead to happiness. She mentioned (through visions) that she loved the candles and that the altar was beautiful. I saw a glimpse of a family and I saw a quick vision of her– blonde haired woman. She likes to talk. I suppose it was to show me it really was her. I asked her in the most respectful way possible if I could worship her. Tarot card revealed a 4 of Cups which tends to be negative but the card looked as though the girl on it was meditating near an altar. The card says to look inward or within. I saw an image of a forehead kiss and then took that as a reassuring yes. There was positive and happy energy, I couldn’t help but smile. She showed me a necklace and rainbow ((not sure exactly what it means)) but it could represent happiness, positivity, and beauty. When I could feel that she was finished, I asked her if there was anything to add (like advice or anything) my hand went nuts writing sentences seemingly coming from nowhere. – “Create your own path, your own light. Climb the mountains of life. You’re already beautiful.” Soon there was a cloudy sunset with a red sun, this signifies endings. This little introduction was coming to a close. I thanked her for everything and then felt a hand on my shoulder, saw it– such a good energy. I felt more goosebumps rise and then it was over.
I closed the circle and blew out the candles. ****again, this is my own experience and I know others have different experiences. I just wanted to share.****

Basic Warding Jar
p u r p o s e - To dispel, eradicate, and keep away negative and harmful energy.
s u p p l i e s
various herbs and oils* (I used mugwort, mint, sage, parsley, eucalyptus, green tea, geranium oil, and sweet marjoram oil)
jar with lid
dragons blood incense
permanent marker
*This is a very personal spell meant to protect you, your home, things that are important to you, so use herbs and oils that you personally associate with protection/cleansing!
Mix the herbs and oils in the jar.
Create a sigil that represents protection/safety/cleansing. Make sure it is simple enough that you can fit it on the lid of your jar. (Psst… here is a great tutorial on sigil crafting.)
Draw your sigil on the inside of your lid with a permanent marker so it doesn’t rub off.
Charge the sigil in your favorite way, then hold it in the smoke of the incense. Alternatively, if you have cone incense, you can burn it on top of the lid the sigil is drawn on.
Dump the ashes in the jar, and seal the lid.
All done! Now put the jar in a safe place, and charge periodically by shaking it.
e x t r a t i p s
You can do the same thing in a smaller jar (like a baby food jar) and carry it with you, just make sure you seal it well!
It wouldn’t hurt to recharge the sigil every so often and adding more dragons blood ashes to the jar.
