20th Anniversary [20 Questions] Digimon Adventure.

FEB 14TH: FAVORITE SHIP/OTP

SORATO OF COURSE!

I mean they are my favorite characters and I ship then since I was in elementary school.

I liked the couple back in adventure, honestly I liked Taichi more at the very beginning and then when Yamato started to have a character development and I started to like him better.

I even used to think they were good for each other because "love" "friendship", it used to be like ok I ship them cause they are my favorites but at the end of the 8th chosen child arc I was like wow they do make sense together, I saw them interacting a lot, Sora even tried to save Yamato's life with a stick xD when he almost got chocked by this reaper looking digimon.

I also recall 3 scenes in particular besides the Hikari arc: when Sora is consumed by darkness and yamato helps her (with joe of course, I kind of like that ship too specially on adventure); when Yamato leaves the group and Sora tells him she is sure that he is gonna be ok (she supports him!) And my favorite one when Sora tries to run away from the group and Taichi and Yamato stop her, she explains why she doesn't want to come back, Taichi tease her a little and Yamato says: stop making fun! And then she starts crying, Taichi says what should we do? And Yamato answers: if she want's to cry let her be. That is when I realized how similar they were, both of them are more mature than the rest, they understand and respect each other, not like Taichi, but I don't blame him, he was a kid anyway; I absolutely love how TK kind of tells that he considers Sora like part of his family, she is the one that takes care of TK most of the time and probably he thought of her as a big sister. (Awww)

About 02 theres a lot os Sorato scenes, they are kind of superficial ones but I understand it, it is about the new kids, they are more like secondary characters. This will sound silly (I was still a girl!) When Jun says to Daivis she saw Yamato with other girl and I was like... could it be?! I think I jumped from my chair when I saw that girl was Sora xD I love when Taichi gives her his blessing xD about her being with Yamato, I grew up with the Mexican version witch is like 99% accurate to the japanese one so in that version and the original he says give him the cake Sora, I could be talking a lot honestly but I don't want to just keep repeating the same, so moving on to Tri.

Tri seriously dissapointed me, kind of, but I understand that the ship wars are intense about Taiorato, so I was pleased to see them together, even both running from the same place (maybe teasing that they were on a date?) When he touched her shoulder to make her feel better when she was afraid and having doubts. I obviously loved "Loss" they teased us about them too and I have to admit I love Taiorato, I love those 3 being bffs so I enjoyed it.

I really hope that Kizuna shows more Sorato (I seriously doubt it) but as long as the epilogue is cannon its fine. I have the feeling Im gonna hate the reboot, because Im pretty sure 2 things may happend, they will make Taichi and Sora canon OR no shipping at all, and honestly Digimon adventure is perfect the way it is, I believe is very well written and I love all the main kids, I love their character development, every single one of them grew up being a better self, it is an anime that I will treasure forever and Im gonna watch it with my kids if I have any, it is my favorite anime so far and probably it will be forever : )

I am dissapointed about myself because this Sorato post was superficial and I didnt go deep into the ship, I didnt give an analysis of any sort but I wanted to keep it "simple" (yeah I told myself, karla, make a short post, well that didn't happend!) So yeah, here is a picture of my small Sorato tribute that is part of my Digimon Adventure collection.

And my headcanons of the Chosen as parents dealing with middle-of-the-night-child-crying nonsense continues.

Next up, Yamato.

(FYI - this one was one of my favorite to write)

2. ISHIDA

Yamato has shifted to a very light sleeper upon the birth of his first child. He starts at the first sound of distress and is the first to claim the parental shift: “I got it, Sora,” he insists. “You go back to sleep.” He picks his crying child up gently, both hands hefting under the pudgy armpits, thumbs sensitive to the rapid caving and expansion of his baby’s shouting lungs. “Easy,” he says, lifting his child slowly up and down. “Easy.” If his child continues to cry, Yamato repositions his arms, enfolding, cradling his baby. He brushes a thumb against the flushed chub of one cheek, hoping to soothe the wrinkle of a wailing with featherlight touches. His baby is too young to cry tears—yet—but he acts like he is wiping them away anyway. He sings as he does this. His voice is low, assonant, smooth on inflections, bordering raspy on declensions, like honey mixed with the grit of sugar. It is a voice of varying texture, but still undeniably sweet. Eventually, his baby quiets. His child’s cries transition to hiccups, tiny, bouncing, comical noises, almost like giggles. But the hiccups gradually peter out, and Yamato stops singing when his child calms to near silent breathing. He lays his hand on his baby’s chest, feeling the lungs inflate under his palm. Somewhere within was a voice like his—unique in its way—and he couldn’t help but wonder, if, one day, like him, it would sing.

47. “I thought it wasa one-night-stand…and now we’re married…”

Thank you @meliia2!This was a challenge, because I didn’t know how to apply the prompt to Sorato’srelationship at first. I ended up using a twist. But I’m happy with how thisturned out and I hope you like it!

Sora opened her eyes and adjustedher head on Yamato’s arm. When she felt comfortable, she glanced at the manlying beside her. He was already fast asleep, his lips slightly parted, his chestslowly moving up and down. Sora smiled and wrapped her fingers around his hand.

She knew that Yamato was a lightsleeper. He always had been. When they were children trapped in the DigitalWorld, Yamato consistently had the most trouble getting rest at night. He wouldalways volunteer to take watch, and sometimes he would play his harmonica, orgo on walks with Gabumon. It was still nice to see him sleeping peacefully now,even years later.

After all, Sora understood betterthan anyone that the Dark Cave’s nightmares never went away.

“I thought it was a one-nightstand…” Yamato murmured.

Sora blinked twice. “What?”

“And now we’re married…” Yamatotrailed off into a loud snore.

Sora’s smile widened and sheresisted laughing out loud. Yamato was sleep-talking! He had never done thatbefore! At least not with her. Maybe Gabumon or Hiroaki would have funnystories.

[ I’m not sure if this was meant to be anything, but I enjoyed this parallel and would at least like to put it out there for others to make their own interpretations of it. On the left, we’ve got Shoushitsu. It’s the scene when Yamato and Taichi first find Sora and attempt to make her feel better. Yamato does a weird flick of his wrist and fiddles with his fingers before seemingly cutting off the motion early. On the right, we’ve got Kyousei- the scene with Jou telling his scary story. Yamato’s playing air-bass and we learn it’s a nervous tick he uses to distract himself, calm himself down, something or other. I always wondered what the purpose of focusing on Yamato’s hand in Loss was, and I’m wondering if it was meant to be the same tick. If true, Yamato must have been awful nervous in that moment. To me, it seems like he instinctively went to fiddle with his fingers, but held it together enough to stop himself (before attempting to throw the responsibility over to Taichi, lol). I won’t call it a Taiorato moment, as much as I’m always looking for Taiorato fanfiction fodder, but make of it what you will. Either way, I’m loving the small details we’re learning about all our favorite kids <3 ]

Is it me or is the tri. fandom a bit slow lately?

We get a peak of activity in the couple of days around a new installment, and then basically nothing happens for the next few months, except the occasional PV or news announcement or a fandom event, like OTP Week.

Weirdly enough, I feel like in the early days (by which I mean 2015-2016) there was a lot more anticipation / discussion in the time leading up to each Chapter (and TOEI fuelled it by giving us stuff to talk about, like promotional pics of questionable taste and interview / magazine spreads that actually told us interesting stuff.)

I even feel that things were a lot quieter for Chapter 5 than they were before. What happened? Is everyone getting angry with tri. or simply losing interest?

Maybe this is just my (mistaken) perception, but suddenly the next 8 months are starting to look very boring.

It almost makes me almost miss getting all those polemical asks about shipping or retconning 02 or why Hurricane Touchdown isn’t canon.

For me, there is a mix of disillusions that have made me become more than a bit disenchanted with Tri.

I remember just how excited I was when Tri was first announced. I made a Tumblr to keep up to date with the precious bits of information Toei would reveal and would often interrupt my study sessions in order to contribute to Nade Nade.

Now, five movies into Tri, and my anticipation has dissolved into a detached sort of interest, which truly saddens me when I remember just how excited I was in the eve of Saikai’s release. I could barely sleep just thinking that in a few hours I would get to see the beloved characters of Digimon Adventure once again.

It might be seen predictable of me, and some may roll their eyes and fault me for it, but my biggest problem with Tri is the walking and talking plot bunny that is Meiko.

When she was first introduced, I thought it would be no big deal...02 previously introduced four new DigiDestined, and although there was some backlash for it, I believe most of the fanbase grew just as fond of them as they did with the original eight.

So for me, why is it not working with Meiko? You could argue that our exposure to the 02 kids was spread into 50 episodes . Comparing that to the 6 feature-length OVAs of Tri, we definitely get less chance to adapt into thinking of Meiko as a main character/digidestined.

But for me, it goes beyond that. While the 02 kids had characterization that felt tangible and relatable, and whose character arcs ultimately added to the plot of the series, Meiko seems to me like an empty vassal used for the sake of plot, just as I used to perceive Hikari when she was first introduced mid-01 season.

Now, five movies in, and I still cannot feel much fondness for her character. Rather, I even sometimes resent her for taking away from plot development of the original digidestined children. Why? Because Every. single. movie. is. about. her.

Every movies consists of the children fighting the main conflict of the OVA, while holding group therapy sessions for Meiko. Why is so much time wasted on one character?

Even in the first episode, Meiko has been written as a total Mary-Sue/self-insert character. from the very beginning, everyone loves her, and why not? These are, after all, nice friendly children. But it persists into making everything be about her. They all want to hang out with her, they want to make her laugh, they want to take pictures with her, go to onsens with her....etc, etc, etc.

I am just so tired of watching the same recycled plot, wherein the kids are struggling to understand what the heck is happening to the digimon and the DW, while holding therapy for Meiko.

And the characterization of certain characters with each other versus with her.....Yamato not understanding Sora’s affliction, but being extremely empathetic to Maiko’s.....ok.

Sorry for this very long rant. It ran away with me.

Without Dany, Jon has no claim to the Throne

After answering too many asks ( x x x x ) on this subject, I decided to consolidate it all in a meta. Let’s get one thing out of the way, Jon has no ambition for the throne, as a character he will have a lot of trouble accepting his Targaryen heritage and Dany will be in it with him, as home, family & love have been her deepest desire her entire life. But without being legitimised by Queen Daenerys & marrying her, Jon has absolutely no claim to the throne!

Paper trail :

If we talk about the records that Sam found at the Citadel, they only state that Rhaegar’s first marriage was annulled and he officially married Lyanna but there is no record of her ever being pregnant or having a child.

Plus Cersei’s treatment of the paper trail Ned presented to disprove Jeoffery’s heritage and claim, was a good example of how easily these records can be challenged despite Bran’s Ned Stark like confidence. So without Dany’s support and firepower, it can be dumped in the trash.

Jon’s Identity : Jon has been known as Ned Stark’s bastard, fathered by a nameless woman for years, he even looks exactly like Ned as stated in the books. To prove that Rhaegar Targaryen had a child with Lyanna and that child is Jon is absolutely impossible. As not everyone in Westeros saw this cross cut!

Let’s breakdown the actual “evidence”

Now a lot of us expect everyone in Westeros to know and believe in things simply because we have seen them onscreen, which is why it’s frustrating when someone doesn’t believe in White Walkers even though it’s crazy to ask someone to believe in zombies without proof. The same way, we are dealing with a huge assumption that everyone will just believe the “visions” of a goth teenage boy who calls himself the three eyed raven. I’m sure not everyone in Westeros, outside the North, cares much for Bran and even if he starts disclosing creepy details of their sex lives, it will only prove that he has visions, it still doesn’t prove that he’s telling the truth about having visions of Jon’s parentage. Any sane person’s reaction to the claim that Jon is a Targaryen would be “Northen Propaganda”

Everyone who bared witness to Lyanna’s childbirth or pregnancy is dead, except for one person, Howland Reed, Meera & Jojen’s father, the kids who took Bran to Three Eyed Raven. He was the one who fought beside Ned outside the Tower of Joy before Ned found Lyanna. He was not present for the pregnancy or birth, though he must have witnessed Ned carrying out baby Jon & Lyanna’s bloody corpse being brought out soon after. I doubt Ned gave him any context other than asking him to keep it a secret. Again as Ned’s best friend, he alone is not reliable enough to prove anything with the circumstantial evidence he could claim to have witnessed.

Someone asked me, that if Jon mounts a dragon, it should surely prove that he is a Targaryen. But Jon’s own brother, Bran is a Warg and is very out & proud about it. So if Jon mounts Rhaegal there will always be doubt about him being able to do it because of Dragon blood or warging. This could be chalked down as theatrics as well.

I was asked if Jon could walk through fire to prove that he’s a Targaryen. In the show canon, Dany is fireproof but she is ‘The Last Dragon’, like Rhaegar before her. It’s a special mystical power not every Targaryen has. Just as Viserys died from burns, Jon too has been burnt by fire before. In season 1, Jon brought back a missing Night’s Watch member’s dead body from beyond the wall, when he takes his oath at the Weirwood tree beyond the wall & Ghost sniffs out the body. Lord Commander Jeor Mormomt wanted to examine it after Sam points out that there is no decay. That night Ghost gets anxious and leads Jon to Mormont’s chambers where the dead body wakes up and they see a wight for the first time. When Jon holds a lamp to fling it at the wight, he burns his hand, which is wounded & bandaged for the next few episodes.

This has been done before by someone in the books:

Which brings us to Young Griff in the books who was created for the purpose of displaying how hard it would actually be for someone to claim they are a Targaryen and how important Dany is, as the unchallenged head of her house.

He claims to be Aegon Targaryen, Rhaegar’s eldest son. He was a good fake, aesthetically he looked like a Targaryen, which already puts him in a better position than Jon who looks like Ned, as described in books.

He had the support of Dornish, who claimed to have rescued the prince in time, who is in fact Ellia Martell & Rhaegar Targaryen’s son. He also has Varys & Aerys’ former Hand of the King and Rhaegar’s best friend supporting his claim. These are people much more reliable and highly placed compared to Howland Reed & Bran for a Targaryen claimant.

He has the Golden Company backing him, which is a force much stronger than the one Jon controls if we don’t count Dany’s forces, which he can absolutely never command without her support.

Despite all of this he was advised to pursue Dany for marriage because without Daenerys, the head of House Targaryen, validating him as a Targaryen, his claim to the throne will not be legitimate.

The good thing for Jon is that Jon & Dany are already in love and she would marry him in a heartbeat but unless she takes the throne after the Great War and legitimises Jon, he has no claim to the throne. As a Queen she can just declare that her totally Stark looking husband is actually a Targaryen in the light of all the circumstantial evidence present, but there will be many who’ll be sceptical and view it as a man taking his wife’s family name in a medieval way. Ruling is not even a part of his character goals, but not wanting the legitimacy of his unborn child challenged could be the only reason to sway him to take the Targaryen family name and his place as King beside Daenerys.

That is, if he survives the war, as his character goals end after the Walkers are defeated while Dany’s character goals are long term, to break the wheel and change the political structure. Lets hope the pregnancy gives him long term character goals, he survives & we get a Jonerys wedding, Targaryen restoration & them ruling together. But let’s get one thing straight, he definitely neither wants nor would be able to stake a claim to the throne without her, just like he can’t win against the Walkers without her! I’ll just go back to sipping my truth tea brewed in hater tears now!
