Clatterbones
I have started my own essay-based blog, which will focus on aspects of musicality I find to be interesting or otherwise noteworthy. This morning, I finished my first essay, which I have posted in accompaniment with my death metal-centred dissertation. I hope it provokes or develops some interest - or even inspires something creatively - for those who read it.

Coltrane's spiritual journey was interwoven with his investigation into world music. He believed not only in a universal musical structure which transcended ethnic distinctions, but in being able to harness the mystical language of music itself. Coltrane's study of Indian music led him to believe that certain sounds and scales could "produce specific emotional meanings." According to Coltrane, the goal of a musician was to understand these forces, control them, and elicit a response from the audience. Coltrane said: "I would like to bring to people something like happiness. I would like to discover a method so that if I want it to rain, it will start right away to rain. If one of my friends is ill, I'd like to play a certain song and he will be cured; when he'd be broke, I'd bring out a different song and immediately he'd receive all the money he needed."

Grey Dream
Sometimes I get lucky enough to hear a song in a dream and then wake up with enough of it in my memory to actually turn it into reality. This here was one such recent occurrence:

Pretty devastated to hear that Steeve Hurdle has died. One of my highest influences, he wrote some of the most truly life-changing music for me. I see no better way to pay tribute to the man than to post his music, and to repeat his final message. "If we all understood that everyone has their own battles to fight, insecurities to face, loves to contend and goals to attain, the world would be a gentler place."
I’ve decided to move my blogging actions over to Tumblr from Blogspot, basically in an attempt to reach more people. This was incited by my current fundraising attempts for Ichneumonidae, which, if you didn’t already know, is a new album and dance film I’m working on.
