World Hunger
The short essay is helpful for it had a striking impact to the readers due to the author’s passion in writing – the factor which made his ideas regarding the matter vivid. The material also happens to provide thoughtful observations and ideas, inclusive of a summary, that would benefit and awaken the readers by providing them relevant information regarding a never-ending issue: hunger. Also, its universal characteristic made it relatable and captivating to readers especially when it concerned the world and not just one or few countries. The writer was definitely creative in fusing some facts with observations and opinions – the two went hand-in-hand in making his selection convincing enough. Overall, it has been a pleasure reading the essay.
For me, the author widely used persuasion and conviction in his text. You can clearly see it as he was trying to evoke emotion to encourage the readers to do what he deemed right and timely. Like a strategy used in a debate, the writer was trying to toy with people’s feelings, with pity as his mighty weapon, to encourage them to take part in his advocacy against hunger. The author’s stand on the issue was also lucid in his work. Throughout the essay, you could that he remained firm unto his belief as he was able to touch people’s hearts, including mine – like a spark that instantly ignited a fire within the readers. It pretty enlightening enough to push people to do the ideas he suggested and to finally take action to stop the recurring cycle of this agonizing issue. His stratagem of concerning the world, to bring together and encourage people from all around the globe, ultimately helped because he was able to create a universal impact.
Now, in terms of reasoning and the use of facts, to be honest, they were merely seen in the written work. There were very few facts, and honestly, they weren’t of much importance (as in the case of hunger’s meaning in the dictionary). In fact, most of them don’t have enough basis and source to be confirmed true (like the statistics, percentages, and other data the author stated). The few facts that can only be considered were the vigilant observations because I, myself, couldn’t deny that I can see them in my society and in other countries. If a critic was able to critique his work, it might be condemned for the lack of inconsistency regarding the use of solid facts with reliable sources. One thing all writers and debaters should remember is the use of facts or details which only came from liable resources – it is very important to instill that idea for disregarding it might just be the loophole that would destroy your work, your belief/stand and you as a writer.
In summary, since the author was successful in manipulating his readers, I think the fault of inconsistency was surpassed. His argument was sound for he was able to maintain his stand throughout the essay via persuasion and conviction. In my observation, the selection was a work of persuasion, and for that, I can’t excoriate the writer’s strategies in writing. After all, he was able to live his purpose of writing the essay: to evoke emotion and encourage the readers to join his cause.
