how much does Stanley know about bill ? Like does he know bill has some 'history' with stanford ?
Hm.. At first he knew only what Bill told him: "Definitely not an interdemensional demon, who tortured your brother" and Stanley just connected the dots with Stanfords behaviour when he met him, the room in the basement with Bill's images and Bill, who don't even know how to eat food. So he literally beat out the info from Bill two days later.
Bill told him the rough half-true version of his story, something like "Oh, the higher-up magic freaking lizard thought it would be funny if I'm gonna help you out bring your brother back, because I'm the one who know how the portal works and where the journals are, and by the way I'm the best friend with Fordsy, he misses me so much, so if I open the portal we can be together"
Stan didn't believed it, but never asked more about. He suspects, that Bill wants to open the portal for something much more differ than just to reunite with his best friend and decides to use Bill for his own benefit only.
Bill on the other hand wants to open the portal, cause he thinks, that that will bring his powers back. He suspects, that there is another Bill in this dimension, but never tried to interact until he realised the portal if far-far away from finish.
Thats where the things comes out wrong.
Bill comes up with a simple plan. If his fleshpuppet means to contain Bill inside and never let him out he desides to trick it, by making a deal with demon-Bill. So This demension Bill posses Bills body and will stuck inside instead, and he will be free and finally make a weirdmaggedon-global. But when he makes a deal he realises, that his spirit looks just like his puppet. Meaning he is full human until something happens. So as a spirit he helps Stanley to free his body from demon-Bill.
And only after that incident he finally explains a full-picture of events to Stanley. He still don't tell why exactly he wants to open the portal. He lies that maybe thats his way to redeem himself and come back to his dimension. (ofc he still wants his powers back only)
So Stanly knows who is Bill, and even reads about his interactions with Ford after finding journal 2.
He was mad at Bill for a bit, but living together under one roof made them really connected to each other, so Stanley didn't forgive him for his past, but sees him as somebody, who already having his punishment for his actions. They both are a huge fuckups and thats what made them a goofy friends actually.
