SINCLAIR |
FINGERS WERE LOOSE IN THEIR GRIP around his whiskey — suddenly sinclair felt oh so very tired. how he wished he didn’t feel the need to deal with any of this. sometimes he wished he could just let it be , like zaiden would probably want him too if he had any idea of what he was so constantly distracted & worried over. he lifted the glass once more to his lips , finishing his second cup off , this time setting it down on the dirty & scribbled on wooden table between them without a sound. any of the lingering irritation over zac’s previous attitude , or his the heavy anxiety twisting in his stomach dropped down to the lower levels , losing out over pure exhaustion of whatever soul remained tethered to his corpse.
he only hums light & low at zac’s thanks. there was nothing that could be said , or done , to make it any better. sinclair was starting to see more & more that all of this wasn’t something he was going to be able to fix… he was going to have to dismantle it one piece at a time , & completely rebuild it in the same fashion. it wasn’t something he looked forward to , hell , it wasn’t even something he was sure he could do. sinclair just knew he had to try.
lips parted with a sigh , hands coming up to card through his disheveled chocolate locks , pushing them away from his forehead , pulling until that burn crawled across his scalp , giving him something to ground himself with. why wasn’t ‘ i don’t know , & i won’t elaborate , but you have to help me. ’ an acceptable answer ? he poured himself a third drink , topping zac’s off once more in the same move before he attempted to give an answer — “ look , i don’t know that i will need you , i just know if i find something particularly damning to aleksander & zade loses his shit , i’m not going to be able to keep him from doing anything stupid on my own. ” he paused , fangs coming down on his tongue not too gently at the realization that zac was going to know his whole plan after this conversation , & he oddly trusted the lycan with it. “ i’m going to break into aleksander’s wing & dig through his personal library. i know he’s a meticulous record keeper , he has to be to keep it all straight. that’s why i asked about that night… i have this horrible feeling i’m going to stumble across something that he’d rather i wouldn’t. & as far as what he’s doing… i can’t be sure… i am hesitant to even think it… but i wouldn’t put it past aleksander. ” he trailed off , lips pursed , tongue in cheek at the truth in his statement. he was very hesitant to think it , let alone manifest the possibility into existence with his words. he swallowed it all down with a mouthful of whiskey before spitting the words out with a reluctant quickness ; “ i think aleksander might be compelling him. has been compelling him. will keep compelling him. no i will not explain. ”
it wasn’t often clair truly left no room for argument , & he sincerely hoped the lycan across from him read him loud & clear - it was not up for debate & he was not in the mood.
With a heavy sigh Zacharie let his gaze fall back to the table, though he kept the vampire sitting across from him in the corner of his gaze. It didn’t take any kind of skill to be able to pick up on the fact that clearly Sinclair was worrying himself sick over something. Maybe they’d been spending too much time together lately but Zacharie was beginning to be able to read the vampire’s expression or sometimes the lack of one. It was something that he wished he could do with Zade honestly, but it had been too long for the two brothers and Zacharie knew that he might have lost that chance entirely at this point.
When Sinclair spoke again Zacharie found himself picking up his head again. When Sinclair brought up Zaiden again and being unable to stop him from doing something stupid, Zac’s eyebrows drew together, drink forgotten on the table as he tried to piece together everything they had been speaking of as of late. He listened in silence as the death dealer continued speaking. “What do you think you’re going to find?” He asked finally with a heavy sigh. There was a little flutter of hope in his chest now, that maybe Sinclair would find something to back up everything that Zacharie had been told over the years. But that hope was extinguished just as quickly as it came because if the lycans had been right that meant that Zaiden was...a pawn.
“Does your compulsion really work on other supernatural creatures?” Zacharie asked after a long beat of silence, his fingers were wrapped around his drink again though he made no move to actually take a drink. “I always thought that was just something made up to scare the pups.” Normally admitting that he didn’t know something would fill him with a sense of dread but at this point he and Sinclair had passed the need to remain guarded around each other.
“Though I suppose that wouldn’t surprise me.” He muttered after a minute, his drink resting against his lips before taking a slow sip. “He’s older than dirt isn’t he, if anyone would be able to I suppose that he'd be a prime candidate.” He didn’t need Sinclair to explain why he felt that Zaiden was being compelled. With everything that he knew about the vampire king, Zacharie wouldn’t be surprised to find it all to be true. Plus if they could turn Aleksander’s right hand against him, that would only help take down the coven and its rule over New York.
“Of course I’ll help. What do you need from me?”
