Kara's daughter has an asthma attack where she pretty much stops breathing, and Kara has to give her CPR/call an ambulance. Kara had to cancel a date, and her daughter begs her not to, but Kara’s like “Sweetie, I just had to perform CPR on you cause you weren’t breathing i’m not leaving you just to go on some date.”
You woke up in the ICU feeling lightheaded and confused. Your throat felt raw so you figured it was an asthma attack that landed you in the hospital, but your mind was a little foggy.
You could see your mom talking to Auntie Alex and Maggie outside through the window and tried waving to get their attention. Maggie saw you and tapped your mom, saying something that you assumed was about you.
Kara’s head turned towards you and she quickly entered your room, hurrying to your side and holding your hand, “Hi, baby, how are you feeling?”
“Not the best,” You chuckled with a light cough following in suit and squeezing your moms hand. “I’ll be okay though,” you shrugged.
Your aunts came inside and sat on the other side of your bed.
“You really did a number on us, kid,” Alex sighed softly, seemingly more relieved now that you’d woken up.
“Sorry,” You smiled sheepishly and bit your lip a little.
“Don’t be sorry honey, we’re just glad you’re okay,” Maggie smiled back.
You talked with your aunts and your mom for a little before the doctor came in and took your vitals before prescribing you medicine and saying you could be released in an hour or so, but he recommended spending the next few days resting.
While he was talking to your mom about your medicine Alex got an alert from the DEO, and she told Kara she and Maggie had to go for work, and gave them a knowing look when they came to hug you goodbye, saying that they’d come to see you tomorrow.
When the doctor left you let out a breath and groaned, “This sucks, now I can’t do anything fun this weekend.”
“Hey, that’s not true! You basically have the coolest mom and aunts ever!” Kara exclaimed.
You rolled your eyes with a smile, “Okay, well, are you gonna call someone to stay with me tonight or are you gonna let me stay alone?” You asked, hoping your mom would let you be alone tonight but you doubted it because of today’s events.
“What are you talking about, muffin?” Kara asked, puzzled.
“Uh, your date with Lena tonight!! There is no way I’m letting you miss that.”
“Sweetheart, you’re in the hospital and you rode here in an ambulance, you’re ridiculous to believe I’d leave you tonight to go on a dumb date,” Kara shook her head.

Rosa was driving the two of you to work and she could tell you were on edge, she just didn’t know what it was about. You had been almost silent all morning, which was extremely unusual.
You were now sat next to her looking out the window as a song played on one of the lowest volumes and your hand was in Rosa’s, her thumb rubbing your knuckles. You were grateful that she hadn’t asked what was going on, the last thing you needed was to get into it in the morning before you had work.
Unfortunately, this meant you were taking out your frustrations on everyone at work. It started simple, snapping at Scully when he went to ask you how the coffee maker worked for almost the third time that week. You could usually muster the patience deal with him but not today.
You stormed off angrily and sat down, and got to work, missing Rosa’s concerned look from her desk across from you.
You’d had your moments, you weren’t the nicest but you were definitely friendly than Rosa was, so everyone figured something was up once you’d yelled at Charles in the break room because he brought his ‘smelly ass food with him again and he’d made the mistake of dressing like the CEO of a pumpkin patch for the tenth day in a row’.
Terry sent you out to follow a lead hoping that you’d cool and when you came back you were only more upset because you’d wasted two hours of your day looking for nothing.
You shoved Hitchcock out of your way when he approached the elevator and you had to get through the gate of the bullpen.
Jake made the mistake of joking about your mood of the day and you shot him a glare and kicked his rolling chair, pushing him into his desk.
You now had most of the bullpen’s attention and you glanced around, seeing the dumbfounded looks on everyone’s faces before rolling your eyes and slumping down in your seat, ignoring Rosa’s concerned look.
The bullpen was silent for a good fifteen minutes before Holt came in and started talking, it was more of an afraid silence, kind of how everyone got when Rosa was really mad.
After Captain Holt finished his spiel about instructions for some dumbass banquet the detectives were required to go to next week.
You continued with your work while he was speaking and he requested to talk with you before returning back to his office.
You sighed in response and closed the case file you had open, taking it with you with the intent of going to the evidence locker when you were done being lectured about whatever it is he wanted to talk about.
“Detective, have a seat,” Holt said, gesturing to the chair in front of him. “I’ve noticed that your attitude today has been.. bad.”
“Yes, I’m sorry sir, I’ve been having some trouble, I’ll make an effort to stop behaving like this,” You nodded and got up to leave, closing the door quickly, not wanting to continue this conversation any further.
You made your way to the evidence locker, avoiding eye contact with everyone in the bullpen and closing the door, letting out a sigh of relief and shaking out your nerves that had bubbled up when you were in Captain Holt’s office and starting to look for what you’d gone in there to get.
A short few seconds later you started to hear footsteps and groaned, not wanting to deal with anyone.
You weren’t expecting Rosa to come in though, so you relaxed and turned around to keep looking.
“Baby?” She starts, trying to think of how to phrase her sentence.
“If you came in here to patronize me I suggest you leave, Rosa.” You said, obviously without thinking.
Your girlfriend’s eyebrows knitted together and you swore she looked upset for a moment before she started speaking, “I know there’s something going on honey, I just want you to tell me what it is so I can help you. It isn't like you to act this way.”
You took a deep breath and stopped rummaging through the box you had in front of you before looking over at her with a soft expression, grateful that she was walking towards you to give you a hug.
Her arms wrapped around your waist and you buried your nose in the crook of her neck, feeling your eyes start to water a bit.
Once she heard you sniffle she knew it wouldn't be long before you started to cry so it was best to keep you calm before you spent half an hour in the evidence locker because ‘it looks like i just finished crying’.
“Oh, baby, don’t cry just tell me what’s going on,” She said, pulling away a bit and brushing your hair away from your face tenderly.
It took you a few minutes, but you explained how you came out to your parents over the phone the previous night before she’d gotten home from work (you went home early because you wrapped up a case and you wanted to make dinner) and they didn’t react the best but you didn’t think it was that bad, and then when you woke up in the morning the family group chat had blown up and all your relatives were talking about you being gay and how disgusting it was. You’d received a handful of individual messages from your family, specifically one from your stepsister who said she didn’t want you seeing your nieces anymore.
“I’m so sorry, I wish I could do something,” Rosa frowned wiping away your tears with the pads of her thumbs.
“You can’t though, my whole family hates me right now,” You shrugged and sighed, feeling frustrated.
“It’ll get better my love, I promise, just give them time, maybe they’ll come around, yeah?” Rosa smiled a little before giving you gentle kiss.

“Oh,” You chuckled. “I got an email about my high school reunion this weekend and I wanted to go but I’m not going to.”
“Uh, why not? If you wanna go just go,” Rosa said bluntly.
You sighed, “Well yeah but I don’t really want to go if I’m gonna have to go alone, that’s stupid.”
“Don’t you miss your friends or whatever? You can just hang out with them.”
“Well yeah, but they all have dates or at least someone to go with, it’ll just be weird, and I don’t wanna hear all the pity comments about me coming alone,” You shrugged and texted Jake your location when your phone wouldn’t stop buzzing from him spamming you.
“I’ll go with you,” Rosa offered.
You chuckled and your cheeks flushed, “What?”
“If you’re not going to go just because you don't have a date, I’ll be your date,” She replied nonchalantly.

Jackie started to walk towards your group of friends and you and Rosa followed in suit.

“Hopefully not anyone else,” You huffed in response.
“Just have fun, Y/N, that’s why you’re here. Forget about your exes, okay? You’re here with me,” She said in a way that made your cheeks flush before giving you reassuring smile and kissing your cheek, which made your heart flutter so hard you thought it might explode.
You nod in response and smile before going over to greet all of your friends and introduce them to Rosa.
An hour or two into the reunion everything was still going smoothly. Your friends were currently trying to embarrass you, telling Rosa about the awful dating decisions you made in high school.
“No, she was the one who stole $200 dollars from Señora Paiz’s purse during class while she was in the bathroom,” Your friend Nicole said, her face scrunched.
“Oh! and remember Kelly?” Dean said, laughing loudly. “That was a disaster.”
“Okay, nope!” You laughed, trying to stop him from saying anything else.
“How did you and Rosa start dating anyway?” Melanie asked.
“Oh um-”
“We were working on a case together that went sideways and I realized that if something would’ve happened to Y/N I wouldn’t have forgiven myself, so I asked her out,” Rosa stepped in, before you could try stumbling through a story.
You kinda tuned everyone out after that for a minute or two. As the night continued you’d been noticing Rosa’s lingering touches here and there, and how the way she looked at you fondly wasn’t something you’d ever seen from her before. You couldn’t help but wish it was real.
You were taken back to reality when Rosa placed a gentle hand on your leg, “You zoned out for a bit.” She chuckled. “Your friends are going to go dance, do you want to go?”
“Oh,” You smiled sheepishly and nodded before taking Rosa’s hand and pulling her towards the dance floor, which made her smile.
Your happiness bubble was quickly bursted when you turned around though, seeing your ex Andrea standing a few feet away from you, smiling at you, “Christ! You scared me.”
“Y/N, so good to see you here!” She grinned at you, making you nod.
“Yep, I’m glad I’m here, Andrea.”
Hearing the name, Rosa instinctively put an arm around your waist, which took you by surprise, but you quickly relaxed feeling her protective arm around you.
“Who are you?” She asked dryly, looking Rosa up and down which was infuriating to watch.
“Detective Rosa Diaz,” She said, not liking how Andrea was talking to her.
“Oh fun! Did you end up doing the cop thing too like you said you wanted or are you just boning one?” Andrea asked you, with the fakest fucking smile on her face.
“I’m Y/N’s wife,” Rosa said sternly, which almost made you choke on air. You did not expect that, but Rosa was smart, it got Andrea off her dick, and the woman’s smile fell almost immediately after the word ‘wife’ left her lips. “We were actually just about to go dance, so if you’d excuse us,” She said with an intimidating glare and a hand on your back, leading you away and towards the direction of your friends.
“I’m so sorry, Y/N, she was getting on my nerves,” Rosa apologized once the two of you were out of earshot, hoping she didn’t make you uncomfortable or overstep.
“Rosa that was genius!” You smiled gratefully. “Thank you, and don’t be sorry. You’re a lifesaver, plus, she was being really rude to you.”
Rosa sighed in relief that you weren’t upset and nodded, looking over at the dj when the music slowed down to a slower song, “You up for a dance?”
You smiled at her and took her hand in yours, leading her onto the dance floor and putting your arms around her neck as her hands settled at your waist.
The two of you fell into a comfortable silence as you danced close together before you spoke up quietly, “Thank you for coming with me. I’m having a lot of fun.”
“I’m really happy I’m here,” Rosa said in response, sighing contently.
You absentmindedly played with her soft curls and looked up into her gorgeous eyes, seeing that she was already gazing down at you with a soft expression gracing her features, causing your cheeks to heat up.
You’d never been this close to her before. It would be so easy to just kiss her. She was right there, her face inches from yours.
The silence between the two of you was almost deafening. You thought your heart was stopping as she slowly leaned closer and captured your lips in hers.
Your fingers tangled in her hair as your mouths moved in tandem for the first time. It felt like a lifetime had passed before you got to breathe, realizing how lightheaded you were.
“Y/N I really really like you,” Rosa admitted, one of her thumbs comfortably rubbing circles on your waist.
“I really really like you too,” You said biting your lip and trying to contain how happy you felt.

Rosa eagerly tapped her foot on the floor of the elevator as she waited for it to reach the floor of the bullpen. She’d gone off to follow a dumb lead and was annoyed about wasting time.
She was glad to see you sitting at your desk next to hers though, not that she would admit it. Your last few days working had been spent following a bunch of leads that had you out of the precinct.
Rosa knew there was something wrong. Recently you hadn’t been acting like your cheerful self. As annoying as Rosa claimed it was, she missed your daily personal missions to make her laugh or smile. She found herself being glad that the two of you were partners (in the field and at your desks).
She chewed the inside of her lip and glanced up at you for a few seconds from her desk before going to the kitchen, where Amy was making a coffee, “What’s going on with Y/n?”
“What?” Amy furrowed her brow, not expecting the sudden question.
“You know, you guys are best friends or whatever. Is she okay and all?” Rosa asked quickly, trying to get the question out as fast as she could.
Amy gave her smug look before speaking, “Uh, okay, well,” she lowered her voice a bit. “she’s been pretty upset lately.”
Rosa frowned a little, “Why?”
“I honestly think that’s something you should ask her, she’s kinda sensitive about it and I know you don't like feelings or whatever but it might make her feel better, and it gives you an excuse to talk to her,” Amy said before picking up her coffee and making her way over to her desk.
Rosa rolled her eyes and sighed to herself and decided to make herself a coffee while she was in the kitchen. She was kinda worried about you, which was super weird because that was really out of character for her, but maybe it wasn’t.
The way Rosa handled relationships worked just fine for her. She didn’t usually get crushes, she would just think someone was hot and once she decided she wouldn’t mind dating them she’d ask them out on a date to see if she wants to make it long term, and if they say no, she doesn’t get attached.
That being said, every once in a while there’d be a crush that would creep up on her before she could swallow her feelings and make a move, and she’d never experienced a crush as strong as the one she had for you.
Once she found out you liked girls it felt like she’d won the lottery. The detectives were at the getaway and you came up to her, completely hammered, and confessed that you were gay. Right after doing that you hugged Rosa and asked her out, but she obviously wasn’t going to take advantage of your drunken state, so she just laughed and said to ask her once you were sober, before offering to help you to your room.
That was almost a year and a half ago, and three months after that you got a girlfriend, so Rosa was certain you’d gotten over your little crush on her a long time ago.
So no, being worried about you wasn’t as out of character as it should have been. She knew she was going to have to talk to you, but she simply just didn't do well with feelings, and deciding to help you (or attempt to make a conversation about it) with something you were sensitive about would definitely involve feelings. Then again, maybe she wouldn't mind having feelings if it would help you. Rosa missed your bubbly and upbeat personality that always managed to make her day.
Rosa turned away from the kitchen, coffee in hand, and sat down at her desk. She tapped her fingers on the desk anxiously, which was annoying that she was letting this get to her.
After a few minutes had passed, a lot of people had entered the bullpen because something going on involving Jake and you were getting really irritated. You groaned quietly and picked up the case file you were working on before moving to the break room and closing the door.
Rosa resisted the urge to bang her head on the desk and got up to walk to the break room so she could talk to you.
You flitted your eyes up when the door opened, but you didn't have a reaction when Rosa walked in. You were just expecting her to grab a snack and leave.
She caught you by surprise when she pulled out a chair and sat beside you. Your forehead crinkled and you looked up at her with a questioning gaze, “Did I forget to give you paperwork for something?”
“What? No,” Rosa shook her head, realizing that her silence was probably confusing. “I wanted to talk to you, if that’s fine.”
Your expression softened and you nodded, “Yeah sure, what do you need?”
“I guess I wanted to know if you’re okay? I know feelings really aren’t my thing or whatever but it seems like you’ve been really upset lately.”
“Oh,” You took a breath and looked down at your work before offering a thankful smile. “Yeah, I’ve had some stuff happening that’s sucky I guess, but it’s not the end of the world, I’ll get over it.”
“If you wanted to tell me what’s going on that’s fine,” Rosa shrugged.
“Hmm, wow, Rosa Diaz is actually interested,” You teased.
Rosa rolled her eyes, “Shut up, I’m being nice to you.”
“Yes, I’ll tell you what’s going on, just not now.”
“Shaw’s tonight two hours after our shift?” Rosa suggested.
You nodded, smiling a little, “Sounds good.”
“I’ll pick you up at 8.”

You finished up your paperwork a little early so you talked to Gina for a while in the break room. Once you had a few minutes before your shift was done, you returned to your desk to pack up your things and saw that Rosa was doing the same.
The two of you got in the elevator together, you could tell Rosa had waited for you, and walked together to the parking lot.
You got in your car and waved goodbye to Rosa when you got in and she gave you a little smile from her bike before putting on her helmet and driving off.
It didn’t take you long to get ready, you just put on a red dress (that wasn’t fancy since you were just going to Shaw’s). The least you could do was look good, since you knew Rosa always looked her best wether she was trying or not.
She arrived soon enough and knocked on the door to your apartment, so you grabbed your small purse and opened the door, “Hi,” you smiled.
“Hey, you look really good, uh you ready to go?” Rosa took a breath as her eyes flickered down for a moment.
“Yep, let’s go,” You nodded, and stepped out, closing and locking the door behind you and chuckling when you saw Rosa’s motorcycle.
The drive was short, you didn't live that far away from Shaw’s, so she parked her motorcycle and lead the way inside.
“What are you ladies having?” The bartender for the night asked.
“I’ll take a whiskey,” Rosa looked over to you.
“Two shots of vodka, please,” You smiled softly.
Rosa raised a brown when you downed both of them, one after the other, when the bartender returned with your drinks.
“What?” You asked.
“Nothing, you just usually don't have anything this strong when we come with the precinct,” Rosa shrugged.
“Usually,” You emphasized. “I still drink every once in a while.”
“Yeah,” Rosa nodded and cracked her knuckles out of habit, “You ready to tell me what's bothering you?”
“I guess,” You sighed. “You remember my girlfriend, the blonde one?”
“Mhm, what about her?”
“We broke up in the beginning of last month. She kept getting really jealous when I’d tell her things from work about you or Amy or Gina, especially you though, because we’re partners and stuff, and I kept telling her that she didn’t have anything to worry about but she’d never let it go. I wanted it to work out, but I just couldn’t put up with it anymore and eventually I fell out of love with her, so I told her and she reacted pretty badly and kicked me out of our apartment so I’ve been living in Gina’s,” You sighed and looked up at Rosa before deciding you needed another shot and getting the bartender’s attention.
“That’s terrible, Y/N, why didn’t you tell me?” Rosa asked, feeling a little weird about how both Amy and Gina knew and it didn’t seem like you had planned on telling her any time soon, maybe you weren't as fond of Rosa as she had thought.
“I dunno, I know you don't like feelings so I felt like you’d want to be left out of this weird thing that’s going on,” You shrugged. “I’m sorry.”
“No, you’re fine, I get it,” Rosa took a drink. “If I was your girlfriend I-”
“What’s that supposed to mean?” You asked with a smirk.
Rosa had a sly smile, “Don’t you remember on the getaway when you were hammered and you kept asking me out and I told you to do it when you were sober? If you would’ve, maybe we wouldn’t still be sitting here,” She finished saying before chuckling, playing it off as a joke.
Your smirk dropped and you rolled your eyes, “Not funny Rosa, that was so embarrassing.”
“What? I was pretty hurt when I realized only drunk Y/N wanted to date me,” Rosa teased.
“Not like you would’ve agreed to date me anyway,” You huffed.
“Seriously? Are you really that oblivious? You're like, the only person at the precinct who I like being around, which is gross to say, but it’s true. I’ve practically been drooling over you this whole time,” Rosa admitted.
“Wait really? Would you have dated me if I had asked you seriously?”
“Obviously,” Rosa took another drink.
“God, I’m such an idiot,” You groaned.
“A little bit,” She shrugged.
You shook your head and looked over at her before sighing, “I’m sorry.”
“You didn’t do anything wrong, if I wouldn’t have been a pussy maybe we’d be dating, that isn't on you,” Rosa offered a lazy smile. “I shouldn’t have brought this up.”
You stayed silent for a moment, having a question you were itching to ask, but you knew it was risky, “If I asked you out now would you say yes?” You asked, chewing on the inside of your lip.
“Depends on if you’re actually asking, this isn’t -”
“I am, I want you to be my girlfriend, Rosa. I know it seemed like that was a one night thing but I promise you it wasn’t, you can literally ask Gina, she’ll be more than willing to tell you, she almost told you completely unprompted multiple times this week because she caught me staring at you for like, five minutes and she made me admit that I like you when we got to her apartment.”
Rosa sighed softly when she saw the genuine expression on your face, “I’d really like to be your girlfriend.”
“Really?” You smiled, “If you don’t want to you don't have to like, I totally-”
“Shut up, Y/N, we’re dating, don’t ruin it,” She laughed and leaned forward, kissing you, something she’d been waiting to do for what felt like ages.
prompt: While on the detectives-only-getaway, R comes out to everyone. Rosa congratulates her and acknowledges how hard it is to come out. Rosa confesses her feelings for R and asks her out.

Rosa smiled and handed you your jacket before the annual beach walk (that started the year captain holt came to the getaway).
“Thanks, Rosa,” You smiled, putting it on and waiting for her to get her leather jacket on. “We’re gonna have to hurry if we’re gonna catch up with everyone else.”
“Oh, uh -yeah,” Rosa nodded, and opened the door, trying to avoid eye contact with you now.
“What did I say?” You chewed the inside of your lip and furrowed your brows.
“You’re fine, I was just gonna like, ask if you wanted to walk together but it’s fine don’t worry about it -“
“No, no,” You stopped her before she got ahead of herself. “I’d love to walk with you, I just thought you’d want to talk to someone else.”
Rosa smiled a bit and nodded, “Cool, let’s go.”
You kept from fidgeting with the sleeve of your sweater as best as you could, you really liked Rosa and the last thing you wanted to do was say something stupid.
The two of you walked in silence for a few short minutes before Rosa said something, “I’m proud of you.”
“Oh?” Definitely not how she’d usually start a conversation.
“I know coming out to people you see every day is really hard, it takes a lot of courage,” Rosa smiled at you before stuffing her hands in her pockets. “And it’s nice to know I’m not the only lady lover in the precinct, so congrats”
“Thanks, Rosa,” You smiled back at her, she usually didn’t act like this and it was nice to see this side of Rosa every once in a while.
“Yeah, of course,” She nodded and kicked up a little sand, looking annoyed or frustrated or something else maybe? After working with her for a while you could generally read her but it got pretty hard to do sometimes.
“Are you okay?” You asked, sensing a change in her demeanor.
“Fine,” She forced a smile before she looked up at you and stopped walking. Your eyes met and you could’ve sworn that Rosa’s eyes flickered down to your lips for a second. “There’s actually something I wanted to say, I guess, so I just hope you don’t take this the wrong way.”
“Oh, okay, what’s up?” You nodded and chewed the inside of your lip.
“I’ve actually liked you for a little while and I was getting the vibe from you but I wasn’t sure, but now I am, cuz you told us and all. So it’s not because I just found out and we both like women, I promise -“
“- Rosa,” You interrupted her with a small smile, it was so unusual to see her ramble but it was adorable. “I’ve liked you for a while too.”
“Oh, uhm - cool,” She nodded, she was so incredibly happy to hear that that she flat out smiled and didn’t even bother to hide it. “Would you mind if I kissed you?”
“No not at all, that would be -mph,” Rosa cut off what probably would’ve been you talking for a little while and kissed you. It felt so much more gentle than you’d expected. She was kissing you as if you were the most delicate little thing in the world and you couldn’t get enough of it.
It didn’t take long for her hand to find the nape of your neck and for her fingers to get buried in your hair, and your hands found their way down to her waist pretty easily.
Rosa pulled away slowly and smiled, “I’d really like it if you’d be my girlfriend.”
“Sweet, then I’m your girlfriend,” You smiled back and kissed her again before taking her hand and running up a little to catch up with everyone else.
