i dont think fujoshis are inherently bad (yaoi/BL im neutral on but there is a BIG pattern of creepy shit in it and being catered to women which is inherently wrong to me- like making lesbian porn for men) but i think its a slippery slope (to fetishizing) and the concept itself is odd [the reasoning i’ve seen is just women finding pleasure in observing mlm relationships- usually sexual. there is the argument that this is because most straight porn is catered towards men and women dont find much enjoyment for it so yaoi/bl was made for the womenly gaze.] i feel like most people fail to realize that this solution was WRONG- what shouldve been done is more women creating hentai to cater to themselves and still finding a way to add an voyerustic twist on it since alot of women dont want self inserts like most doujinshi have. making sexualities into fetish porn will yes indeed lead to fetishization, plain and simple. it actually enforces the idea that straight sex is the norm and does not help progress for the lgbt community, which should be your concern if you love to consume lgbt media [by this i mean making sexualities into porn categories though its not inherently wrong to separate sexualities]. it sucks that because misogyny [cishet men] controlled alot of sexual content that people turned to a sexuality their gender isnt even involved in and sexualized it.

To be clear though, anyone can consume what they wish, objectively no one can really stop you and it isn’t inherently bad but you HAVE to learn to consume media CRITICALLY. As long as you can consume this content without agreeing with or aiding in the fetishization of mlm relationships (making mlm sexualities an inherently sexual thing, being homophobic and still consuming gay content, pushing homophobic ideals, etc.) and being able to acknowledge that the yaoi is usually very fetishized and full of gross patterns (along with most BL) i would not consider you a problem (personally. i think everything problematic should be consumed critically but i don’t think others should be harassed for what they consume either.) i do also realize that fujoshis did not originate in western culture but its also important to be able to be critical of cultures while also respecting them (and that westerners can definitely worsen concepts).
