“kas” theory: tired
“cats” theory where each character in stranger things season five embodies the life and personality of one of the cats in andrew lloyd webber’s hit musical “cats” for a stand alone musical episode that doesn’t have anything to do with the greater story at large: wired
Not people saying “Fandom has always been like this” in that vent post I made. No. It hasn’t always been like this. Fandom has NEVER been like this until recently and if you were in fandom pre-tumblr purge, pre-twitter, pre-netflix boom, pre-tiktok….then you would fucking know it was nothing like this.
We still had the drive to create. We still sold prints and charms and made zines…but it was never like this.
The introduction of streaming, binge shows that drop all at once, tiktok and vine RIP i still love u vine but you were the beginning of a particularly ugly era) creating this bite sized, quick paced ‘content’ era of creation and it bled out into fucking everything else.
Fandoms didn’t die down when the show ended or the season was over. You didn’t mass unfollow artist, writers or moots just because they changed fandoms. There wasn’t this need to please the algorithm in order for your posts to get seen by people and enjoyed.
Fandoms used to last YEARS. Star Trek is literally the oldest running fandom out there and you got people in there that could care less about the new stuff and still have been happily prancing through their fucking fifty year old fandom today. Hell, even SPN after all it’s fuckups and shitshows has a dedicated fanbase STILL creating tons of art and fic.
There is no patience anymore. No calm feeling of taking in fandom and friends at a pace that which doesn’t make you stressed and is still fun.
Do I blame fandom for this? Of course not, but people are complacent with it and start changing their vocab to accommodate and end up making the situation so deep it cant be fixed.
We call Art & Fic Content now, completely stripping the value of what it is to a level of consumerism instead of personal entertainment & community bonding.
#They’re best friends. Just the facts.
Come on, kill me! NO!
there’s something so important to me about that one moment in batman unburied, where bruce is talking to the vision of his parents, and how batman isn’t just a manifestation of what happened in crime alley That Night anymore. how being batman brings him hope- and happiness, sometimes. when bruce says:
BRUCE: I just – it’s about more than you now. I get something else out of it. I like it. Did you know that if you dive off the Babylon towers, at exactly the right time, with a good cable and perfect aim… you can loop your throw around a gargoyle and land on the J-Street el? I do. And when the wind hits you on the way down, and it’s just you and your grip on the line… there is nothing like it.
it’s saying yes, batman is a tragic character. that there is no other way to tell this story without the night his parents died, and his subsequent persevering grief. it’s saying he’s so undeniably shaped by his trauma he’s unrecognisable without it. it’s saying this story doesn’t start happily. and honestly? it probably won’t end happily either. batman is not a very likely character to grow old and die peacefully in bed surrounded by his loved ones. bruce will probably die for his cause, and die bloodied and in pain.
however. maybe the beginning and the end of the story isn’t all that matters. that it doesn’t mean everything in the middle can‘t be anything but tragic, and it doesn’t mean that it doesn’t matter. that there is a moment, with just the wind and the tension of the cable and the freefall, and he was happy. that even as a person unrecognisable without his trauma could find something that makes life feel like living means so much to me
STEVE HARRINGTON, NANCY WHEELER and JONATHAN BYERS in STRANGER THINGS | “Chapter Eight: The Upside Down”
anyways, not that I don't love ian mckellen or giancarlo esposito but it's long past time for magneto - a mutant whose ideology is deeply connected to the fact he's a Holocaust survivor - to be played by a Jewish actor. Especially, because the dynamic between Charles and Erik was written as a specific allegory for how different Jewish leaders reacted to surviving the Holocaust. It's so disrespectful how this is erased so often, even in fancasts. Personally, I'd love to see Jason Isaacs as Magneto!
It starts, as it will end, with a garden.

So you can rat on the MCU for antisemitism but when Stranger Things films in former holocaust prisons that's fine? Where is the consistency?
weird you want to use the very real threat of rising antisemitic sentiment as a petty moral "gotchya" so you feel superior to strangers online, but fyi I work for a major national pop culture publication read by 100s of 1000s of people and over a month ago I wrote a 700 word article breaking down the antisemiticism in the latest season of Stranger Things and the movement to stop Netflix and Airbnb from profiting off a N*zi prison. It's been in the top 10 most read articles on our site for the last 2 weeks (and even if I hadn't personally called it out in ST that wouldn't make antisemiticism in Marvel any less of an issue btw). You can read it here:
Romani and Jewish fans of the show are calling for Netflix to be held accountable.
someone said here pretty apt that robb stark eldest daughter syndrome and it's so accurate.
There is Sansa in KL who thinks robb will win and everything will be okay. Then there is arya with beric and the sassy group to be ransomed to him or even before when she thought her brother ROBB will defeat tywin as its always her constant inner monologue. robb.
We have bran and rickon with no idea what's going on but they too depend on robbs victory. We have mister theon and his biting guilt for robb. Finally we have catelyn trusting and putting everything on robb cuz she thinks her remaining children are dead/lost/confined. Then we have tywin so unsure what robb will be doing next so he sits in KL waiting, then there is stannis and melisandre throwing leech in fire with Robb's name pronounced. NEVER FORGET, WE have walder frey who's entire plethora of a family and next generations survival and pact depends on...robb and the betrothal that never happened (totally eldest daughter plight)
And then we have robb, exhausted, extinguished wary and alone with jeyne or even his wolf.
