7 months ago this was all merely a pipe dream. I was working as a Respiratory Therapist and was about to get married to my amazingly beautiful and talented wife. We had been working on the idea of Wodbottom already, but at that point still had no idea of the direction or name of the company.
After joining a Crossfit gym in October of 2014 in preparation of our upcoming nuptials, we quickly fell in love with it. Crossfit became a big part of our lives, not only for getting us into shape for the wedding, but for all the wonderful friendships that blossomed from it. However one issue that would nag us every time we went to the gym, was what to do with her engagement ring. Emily was worried about scratching it, and would take it off every time we were at the gym. I was worried because I didn’t want her to lose it or scratch it as well. Thus, the idea was born. After doing some research, we saw there were indeed options out there…but, we wanted to create something of our own. Something that would mean something to us.
We began to work with different manufacturers to create the perfect ring for us and to come up with a logo that was meaningful to us, but also maybe something others would enjoy. During our brainstorms we kept coming back to Crossfit, and how us joining the gym really created something magical for us. We were getting in shape and meeting new life long friends. Those killer WODS (workout of the day), were breaking us down, but building us up mentally, physically, spiritually, and making our lives better.
So…why not name our company after the thing we loathed and loved so much. WOD…well that didn’t seem very catchy. I kept trying to come up with something that showed our love and commitment to each other, and also our love of these brutal wods. What about a heart with a barbell through it?…I speculated. Then I had the idea of turning the heart upside down…which now looked like a good looking butt that so many people are after. And thus Wodbottom was created from the rear to here.
Now 7 months later our company is up and running finally. I am now working as much as possible researching new ideas for our company and being a more present Father and Husband. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Thanks for joining us on our journey!
