Charlie was walking in the woods one cold day when he came upon a few hunting traps. Crouching down to inspect one he saw that this particular trap was a bear trap. He took a stick and pressed down on the middle, jumping a bit when it clamped down. Picking up the trap he looked around for more traps.
He walked forward a ways before he heard a whimper coming from the bushes and looked in to see a small dog caught in a trap. He quickly released the dog and picked it up and starting to run home before it started to loose too much blood.
“Hey, are you ok?” He heard from behind him, causing him to whirl around in surprise.
“Nice to meet you ma’am! Thanks for helping with the puppy as well.” He says casually. He picks a few leafs out of the puppies fur, scratching it behind its ears absentmindedly.
“He looks muck better now! With some rest he should be back to normal. What should his name be?” Charlie asks, not being able to think of any suitable names. His last pet had been his mothers dog, and she died when he was young. He didn’t see a collar anywhere so he figured he would be the one to give this pup a home.
Belle picked at the threads on her dress, vacantly wishing she had a pair of scissors to cut off the imperfections. Her apartment was still pretty barren, so she was out in the convenience store picking up essentials for this new human world. Yesterday had been clothes, today was things like rubber bands, shampoo, and yes, scissors.
“This store has 45,000 square feet and I still cannot find the vitamins,” Hopefully the person she was talking to worked there.
“Uh, well, I can try to help you find some ma’am.” He said awkwardly, trying to be of help. He didn’t know where or what vitamins could be, but he didn’t like leaving people looking sad.
“Do you know what type of aisle they could be in? Health, food?” He smiled, hoping that he didn’t seem like too much of an idiot. He didn’t buy his own groceries at home, much less go to a convinience store.

“Oh you work with animals? How splendid! What do you do?” She didn’t bother telling him that the human company she’d been referring to was merely anything that held up a better conversation than a wine glass and school papers. How dull would that sound? No, animals were far better.
“Yes, I teach music and also English at the high school,” she explained, “I do like it, but the music program is significantly lacking in funding right now, hence the papers,” she indicated them with a nod, “Ah well, I have no right to complain, I suppose, money is short everywhere.”
“Honestly I just hope that they figure it out or step down. Or, better yet, ask for help. Pretending to have it all under control doesn’t help anyone.” He said emphatically, hoping that he didn’t sound too rude. He didn’t want to hurt anyone but he did want to help.
I just hopes someone steps up because I for one, have no interest in politics, but lot of interest in making a living.” He remarked off handedly. He had expirience in politics, be he wasn’t about to offer himself up, he wasn’t looking forward to being force to run for mayor in New Orleans, much less run a government here.

Artimesia really wasn't sure where the reserve started, positive! Okay, maybe there'd been an ignored signed, but she'd heard the dog whimpers from where she'd been and had to come check it out. Bit before she could actually check it out this dude (had he been the one she'd seen before?) was running faster than she'd ever seen any normal person run. She ran after him, thinking maybe she could offer assistance, especially if it wasn't just the dog that was hurt.
"Hey, are you okay?" She called out, not expecting him to whirl around so fast but she kept going, trying to explain herself before even stopping properly, "See, I heard that dog from a while away cause, well, I just hear really well and- jeez that looks bad. Hold on, I got bandages in my bag that might help ya-"
“Gosh thank you so much! I just found him stuck in a bear trap and he needs medical help quick.” He said taking the bandages out of her hands. He quickly started wrapping the pups leg, grabbing his pocket knife to cut off the excess bandage.
“Do you think you could help me get her back to the cabin? I need to phone the vet. They come out here all the time.” He said quickly, looking up at the girl. Realizing he didn’t give her his name he introduced himself. “Charlie LaBoeff, wildlife rehabilitation specialist. Nice to meet you.”
wolf-mancharlie:
“Sure, good to know I can get help.” Charlie said happily. Walking up to the eagle enclosure and opening it. He walked in and shut the door behind him tightly. He was nervous doing his job in front of another person, as he was used to being alone.
He slowly moved toward the nest that had been made, looking inside to check on the babies. They were still too little to fly around out in the wild, but they were able to fly for short distances in their cages. “You can come in if you’d like. They are hungry right now so if you could hand me the bucket I left by the door that would be swell.”
Oh, ew. Lauryn did not consider feeding birds a good use of her time here, but she handed the bucket over anyways, just to be polite. Yeah, she knew birds weren’t scary or anything, but the way they vomitted up their food was gross and to be honest… It reminded Lauryn how much she missed flying, “No, no, that’s… not my thing. You uh, have a good day.”
“Oh, you have to leave? That sucks. Well, give me a call I suppose. When you find out if I can get help.” He said distractingly, still feeding the birds. He knew that the other woman did not want to be there, so he could understand her desire to leave. “ I hope you have a nice day ma’am!”

“Okay, I’ll take whatever I can get at this point. I’m getting a bit desperate. Anyway, I really need to get to the eagles, so if you want to come with me you can. I’m sure you want to see the bird enclosures.” He commented lightly, not wanting to push her, as she seems to be a bit uncomfortable around the animals.
“They have enough space to heal and then I let them come and go as they please, although they usually make nests in the enclosure. I like to think they feel safe here.” He says as he walks towards the enclosures.. He thinks that they like the fact that they are protected from the other birds.
“Oh! Sorry, I didn’t mean to distract you. I may walk around a little bit more for the appraisal, but you’re free to keep working,” Bad word choice, don’t make it sound like you’re telling the guy what to do, Lauryn reminded herself, “I’m certain I will get you the help you need, you can have faith in your local government.” No he couldn’t, but if Lauryn wasn’t going to assure him that, who would?

“Um no, nothing like that. Just strong.” He didn’t mention that he could turn into a full wolf, but he figures that he might keep that to himself. It’s not something the average person can do, and he likes being average. “What about you? Any gifts?” He says, trying not to be offended when he doesn’t get a handshake back. Maybe it’s not a thing where Beck was before he got here. Things are a lot different here then they were in 1930.
Beck wasn’t expecting a real answer, he’d only really been joking in his exasperation, though it was nice to know this schmuck was keeping up with the whole “town of cartoons” act as well. At least he wasn’t trying to pretend to be magic or anything, “A handsome smile and a knack for mystery solving,” Beck pulled a shining but tight smile, not to humored by something clearly pretending not to know who he was, “Beckham Blake-Jones, charmed I’m sure.”
Charlie tried not to roll his eyes at the blatant posturing that this guy was doing. It reminded him of when he was forced by his mom to visit with the wealthy people of Louisiana. He knew he had to tread lightly around this man. “Pleasure, of course. You lift here often. I’ve only been here a few weeks and this is my second time coming. Pretty good equipment, different than we had in the 30′s and 40′s of course.”
He didn’t really like to bring up the time period he came from. It was a bit embarrassing how little he knew about this century, it made him feel left behind in a way. He was hoping that he would meet someone as lost as he was, but no such luck yet.
wolf-mancharlie:
“Oh, well that sounds nice. I’ll need carpenters mostly, possibly some roofers as well. I’m glad I won’t need to do this all by myself,” He says, smiling slightly. Charlie knew that he would have a hard time getting all of the work done in time for winter, even if he thought he could do it.
“Is their anyway that I can help you get the help I need? I don’t have much in the way of money anymore.” He said nervously, biting his lip. He’s worried that the people that he needs won’t help him.
The addition of ‘anymore’ makes Lauryn quirk an eyebrow, though she gathers that this was a reference to a previous life. Perhaps he was unfamiliar with the craftsmanship of this era… assuming he wasn’t from this era. Lauryn didn’t know anything about roofing or carpentry herself either, to be fair, and she was from this era.
“Well, it’ll depend on how much funding I can get from city council,” Lauryn said, her voice full of doubt, “But if I can get a few good people on the job to help you out, I’m sure we can fixed the place up for… Whatever your squirrel’s name was.”
“Okay, I’ll take whatever I can get at this point. I’m getting a bit desperate. Anyway, I really need to get to the eagles, so if you want to come with me you can. I’m sure you want to see the bird enclosures.” He commented lightly, not wanting to push her, as she seems to be a bit uncomfortable around the animals.

wolf-mancharlie:
“That’s my local trouble making squirrel. His names Chatter. He squeaks a lot. He also likes to make nests in the ceiling of my lodge,” He says, smirking at the squirrel currently trying to burrow in the woman’s hair. Chatter seems to like her, which is more than could be said for most people.
“The snow is supposed to be plentiful this year, so I am trying to collect enough brush and leaves for the nests. I know that the animals can not do it on their own, so I’m trying to be a little bit of help whilst I continue to fortify the habitats.” he said, securing his tool belt and grabbing the plywood.
Lauryn picked to animal up by the scruff on the back of it’s neck - gently, as she reminded herself how fragile Earth creatures were. Earth creatures also weren’t supposed to jump on others unannounced, but perhaps she’d been misinformed. Just another irritating thing about this town.
“Surely we can work on some better construction for this place as well, what kind of handimen would you need hired?” Lauryn got out her notepad rather than a phone, it allowed her to be more precise. She’d similarly been told that New York expired more snow than usual, which would be an odd change from Beach City, “I admit, I don’t know much about Earth’s creatures habitats, but we’ll clearly need to keep the cold out of the building or things will only get worse.”
“Oh, well that sounds nice. I’ll need carpenters mostly, possibly some roofers as well. I’m glad I won’t need to do this all by myself.” He says, smiling slightly. He knew that he would have a hard time getting all of the work done in time for winter, but he though he could do it.

“I’m a rehabilitation specialist down at the preserve. It’s nice, but definitely harder than one would think.” He replied, downing his scotch. He was exhausted, and really happy that he had finished his work enough to take this night off.
“You’re telling me. The government can’t seem to shovel out any money to get me some help with construction, so I’m currently handyman and rehabilitation specialist.” He sighed, indicating to the bartender to pour him another 2 fingers. His days had become much longer and harder since coming to this place. He didn’t mind the work though, it was definitely rewarding.
wolf-mancharlie:
“I wasn’t gonna say anything until you really needed help, but that much weight is a little much, even for someone who looks like they do this pretty often.” Charlie said from his position on the pull up bars. He really didn’t need to work out so much, the curse had done wonders for his body, but he liked to work out. And it made him feel better.
“I’m Charlie, I’m new. Nice to meet you.” He said lightly, holding out his hand to the other man.
“Beck,” He didn’t look up to shake Charlie’s hand, still rubbing the sore spots on his palms. It wasn’t intentionally rude, but Beck’s frustrations were still on the failure. Perhaps he really had fallen out of practice since he’d gotten here.
“220 used to be my average, I can take it,” He stands from the bench, breaking off a 25 pound weight from one end, then the other. Beck didn’t blink an eye at anyone new around here, as they were probably just someone else in a mask or a crazy character sent to screw with him, “Let me guess, you’ve got horrible magic powers? You’re from outer space? You got a tail?”
“Um no, nothing like that. Just strong.” He didn’t mention that he could turn into a full wolf, but he figures that he might keep that to himself. “When then hello, Officer! I’m just headed to the bald eagle part of the sanctuary. I can wait a few minutes though if you need something?” He said casually. He did not want to offend the police, because even in his time that was a bad idea. He hadn’t done anything since he had been here to warrant police attention, though. Or a safety inspector, for that matter.
“Is everything looking okay so far? It was a little rough when I got here, so I’ve fixed everything up.” When he got this job, the sanctuary had been in such poor conditions, he had been pretty appalled.
“Yes, I can tell,” Lauryn said plainly as she scanned the area. Things looked nice, but just like most things in this town, needed improvement. In Charlie’s defense however, he did house many types of animals, all of which were bound to make messes. He had his work cut out for him when taking care of every fauna in Toonsville.
“Well, strictly speaking, I’m not allowed to say,” Technically, safety inspection was not under the umbrella of being a police officer. It just so happened no one else was doing this job, “I just worry about many of the hastily built structures in the city, and considering you house so many lives here, it’d be a shame if anyone got hurt. And it’s almost winter, too.”
“Yes, most of the structures here are a work in progress. I’m working my way from the most vulnerable animals to the more sturdy animals, who won’t be in any immediate danger. I’m still working on the bird and small animal habitats. The bald eagles and turkey habitats have not been taken care of in a while, that much was obvious.” He rambles while picking up a large log that had fallen in the path during the last wind storm. He realizes a too late that he had used a bit too much strength. He relaxes when he remembers that he is not the only one in the community with some special powers.
“But I think that I will be able to get things up to par by the first snow fall.” Charlie had never seen snow but he thinks that it is probably pretty cold. He doesn’t want the animals to suffer because of his lack of knowledge though, so he is reading lots of books about carpentry.
Out of all the things that had (supposedly) changed within the 30+ years Beck was “teleported” into the “future”- the gym stayed the same. Much like when he lived in L.A., the gym was the best place for him to get some sun, keep up his physique, and take a load off. Working in Hollywood had been stressful, maybe he should just take this time in “Toonsville” as a vacation just as well.
Speaking of stressful, Beck may have over estimated exactly how much he could bench press this time around, “Woah, woah, woah-!” The barbell hit back on the bench pegs and Beck sat up quickly, rubbing his red palms, “Miiiiight wanna bump down that 220…”
