i missed ian, too. but my justification for keeping him in chicago was because i wanted mickey to gush about him, and i don't think he would have in the same way had he been in mo's place during the interview. and if ian had been there, as the writer, i would've felt like i had to constantly talk about what he was doing, as well, and the interview wouldn't have felt realistic, as kristy wasn't tasked with interviewing mickey and ian and absolutely does not care about him as much as we do.
someone a while back suggested a trip to disneyland since it isn’t far from mickey’s la home. it’s a super cute idea and what i think happened is it was a massive milkovich-gallagher trip that acted as a christmas gift for all the gallagher kids. it’s mickey, ian, mo, mandy, liam, carl, debbie, and lip. fiona was invited but i feel like she chose to stay back and instead have the house to herself for a week. i imagine her dancing around in her underwear and enjoying doing whatever she wants lol
they all flew out together from chicago the week before christmas, stayed in mickey’s house, and spent two days at disneyland and another two touring la.
lip and mickey hung out because they like each other and have all sorts of nerdy conversations.
liam had the time of his life in every way and filmed his trip so he could make it into a youtube video.
at disneyland, carl and debbie were able to let go and just be kids for a few days. carl got a goofy hat with the long ears and wore it around.
ian made mickey mouse jokes about mickey constantly and mickey started calling him merida.
everybody wore their santa hat mouse ears and took pictures in front of the castle. mickey posted all the pictures to his private account and a select few to his mick milk account.
they all had wristbands to get them into the lightning lanes so they rode most rides in the park over the two days. they all hung out in various groups throughout the day, but on the second disney night, ian and mickey went off together and walked around, only riding a handful of rides and mostly just being alone together during a busy, chaotic week. they got food together, held hands, and talked.
after the four days, they all flew back to chicago together and had christmas. everybody went to ian and mickey’s place for a christmas eve party. iggy and colin even came. then on christmas afternoon, ian and mickey went to the gallagher house and had christmas spaghetti with the family. ♥️♥️♥️

Disclaimer: I don’t know what it’s like to actually live with bipolar. That makes me nervous because I want to do right by it, so if I miss the mark on prompts like this, please do let me know. Also, this starts out a bit dramatic because when aren't they, but I promise they chill out.
Take Off Your Mask (don’t compensate for me)
Mickey is at the bathroom sink, getting ready to brush his teeth, when Ian comes in behind him. He watches the reflection of that messy red hair get closer as he squeezes minty toothpaste onto his brush—well, onto a brush, he’s not totally sure whose is whose at this point. Ian’s arms wrap easily around his waist, hands dipping just a little too low for common decency, and Mickey leans back into him as Ian bends to breathe against his neck.
“Mmm, again?” Mickey murmurs as Ian licks that sensitive patch of skin just behind his ear, those broad, warm palms heavy on his hips. “Didn’t I just take care of that?” he adds, pushing his hips back.
But Ian shifts so they don’t make contact, their lower halves stubbornly separated even as he plasters his chest to Mickey’s back, and Mickey knows something is wrong.
“You uh…” he starts, suppressing the sudden fluttering feeling in his chest, the one you get when you stand up too fast. He swallows. “You feelin’ good, man?”
Ian pauses behind him, and Mickey can feel him breathing. In and out, in and out, but just a touch too fast. He knows despite his efforts, the words came out cautious, came out concerned. And Ian had definitely noticed.
“Why wouldn’t I be?” Ian tries casually, bringing sharp teeth to nibble at Mickey’s ear. “Can’t I just be turned on by my husband?”
“Yeah,” Mickey agrees, “sure you can.” He pulls away though, just enough to get Ian looking in the mirror, and meets his eyes through their reflections in the glass.
“But you’re not, though,” Mickey says, and Ian shoves away from him with a heavy sigh.
“Never mind,” he mutters, looking at the floor. He starts to leave, but Mickey’s having none of that, and sets his unused toothbrush down with a clatter to make a grab for Ian’s arm.
“Hey, wait,” he gets out before Ian is spinning on him again, pushing his hand away.
“I just wanted to do something for you,” Ian growls, leaving Mickey stunned with the sudden shift in attitude. “I know that wasn’t enough, earlier, I know I haven’t been enough. Not since they upped my fucking meds.”
“The fuck are you on about?” Mickey asks, completely mystified. “When did I say any of that?”
“Just now!” Ian bellows, and Mickey’s not having that, either.
“Yo,” he states firmly. “Knock that the fuck off.”
And Ian does. His eyes go wide at the iron in Mickey’s voice, and then he’s deflating. Like a balloon animal from the fair that you leave in your room for too long, he goes from overfilled and pressurized to a limp, wrinkled mess in no time flat.
“Sorry,” Ian manages softly. “I’ll just…” And then he’s leaving the room, leaving Mickey staring at the space where he had been, wishing he was better at all of this shit.
Mickey rubs his face with tired hands, then follows.
He finds Ian in their room, huddled on his side of the bed. The blankets are still kicked to the bottom of the mattress where they had left them, Ian’s toes tucked underneath as he sits with his knees to his chest.
Mickey sits on the edge next to him, facing him. Pokes at his leg until Ian looks up.
“Hey,” he says simply. “What’s goin’ on?”
Ian bites his lip, so Mickey reaches out and pokes that, too.
“You gotta talk to me, man,” he presses. “We’re married now, you can’t just run off on me.”
Mentioning their recent commitment is always a surefire way to get Ian smiling, and Mickey counts it as a victory when his husband’s lips can’t help but twitch upward. Ian doesn’t seem any closer to speaking, but Mickey can be patient. They have the time, now.
He doesn’t have to wait very long before Ian relaxes, letting his legs straighten on the bed and folding his hands loosely in his lap. Ian twists his wedding ring on his finger, stares at it, then reaches over and takes Mickey’s hand where it lies against the sheets.
“Been feeling off again,” he starts quietly, stroking the back of Mickey’s hand with his thumb.
Mickey raises an eyebrow, even though Ian can’t see it with his gaze fixed on the clasped hands.
“You think?” he offers dryly, and there’s that hint of a smile again.
“Yeah,” Ian admits. “I know. It’s just…” he hesitates, then pushes on. “I’m happy, you know? I am.”
Mickey nods.
“I am,” Ian repeats with emphasis, and Mickey just snorts.
“Didn’t say you weren’t, Ian, what the fuck?” He pulls his hand away and places it on Ian’s cheek, turning his face so he can look him in the eye.
“Just tell me what’s happenin’ here,” he asks. “You were fine earlier, so what got into that brain of yours to make you think somethin’ was wrong? That you had to make somethin’ up to me?”
Ian shrugs. “Don’t know,” he answers. “I never fucking know, that’s the problem." He laughs humorlessly. "And I can't even keep you from noticing."
Mickey can work with that.
“Alright,” he says casually. “Just the usual shit, then, huh?” He can see Ian’s eyes widen, but he doesn’t let him say anything, or turn away.
“Thought you might be on an upswing,” Mickey continues, “comin’ at me less than an hour after the last time and all. But that’s not it, obviously.”
Ian shakes his head, to the extent that he can with his chin in Mickey’s grasp.
“Downswing, then,” Mickey decides, and nods to himself. “You feel like shit, and that asshole brain of yours is tellin’ you you’re shit, too. Tellin’ you you’re not enough again, or that you’re too much?”
Ian doesn’t try to argue. “Not enough,” he admits, then, “maybe both,” a second later.
“Alright,” Mickey says again. Then he drops his hand from Ian’s face, straightens his back, and stares him in the eye.
“Here’s what we’re gonna do,” Mickey orders. “You’re gonna go take your meds—” he holds up a hand to stop Ian’s protest, “I know you didn’t do it yet, you moron, I was in the bathroom the whole time. So you’re gonna go take ‘em,” he repeats, “and I’m gonna call your doctor. I know they said to give it a couple weeks, but you shouldn’t be havin’ to deal with this.”
“Okay,” Ian agrees softly.
“Then,” Mickey continues, “you’re gonna get a shower and put on something clean, because I can’t make you feel better, but I can damn well make you comfortable.”
Ian sighs. “Mickey…” he starts, and Mickey think he knows what’s coming: the usual diatribe of you shouldn’t have to, this is my problem, just leave me alone.
But it never comes. Instead, Ian leans over, kisses him lightly on frowning lips.
“Thanks,” he whispers, and Mickey cracks a smile.
“Yeah yeah, whatever,” he mutters, but he knows Ian can tell that he’s pleased. “Go take your pills, bitch.”
He moves to let Ian off the bed. Before the other man can get through the door, though, he calls out to him again.
“Ian,” he says, and waits for him to turn around with questioning eyes. “Come downstairs when you’re done, yeah? We’ll lay on the sofa, watch some shitty movies or somethin’.”
Ian smiles. “Yeah? Gonna cuddle me better, Mick?”
Mickey bites his lip, but he knows he’s grinning back. “Maybe. You got a problem with that, tough guy?”
“No,” Ian says over his shoulder as he turns and heads back to the bathroom. “Not at all.”
"And Ian?" Mickey calls out one more time before Ian can close the bathroom door.
"No more hidin' this shit, yeah?" he says. "No more puttin' on a mask for me, no more tryin' to compensate for somethin' that ain't even there."
He moves toward the bedroom door, rests a hand on the jamb.
"I'm in this, okay?" he confirms. "So let me be fuckin' in it."
Ian's back tenses, then relaxes again.
"Okay, Mick," he agrees. "Okay."
And it might not be okay right then, but it will be.
Gallavich Week 2021. Day 2 - Fantasy AU. @gallavichthings
AU where Mickey is completely in love with Ian but is too scared to tell him that. He avoids him and struggles with his own feelings. Not so long ago Mickey noticed that he started to cough up flower petals - it’s a disease called hanahaki. Ian finds Mickey in a terrible condition and tries to know what’s going on. Mickey hesitates and his condition is getting worse. So he reluctantly tells Ian everything, and he gets cured because it turns out that his feelings are mutual.
@gallavichthings very kindly said I could share some optional prompts based on the themes! If you like, feel free to use any of these prompts as inspiration for fanfic, fanart, gifsets, edits, videos, meta, or any sort of original creation etc. You don’t have to stick to the exact prompt, you can use them as a jumping off point. What is Gallavich Week?
Gallavich Week is a full week especially dedicated to Ian x Mickey fan works. Each day has a different theme, and people will post their works according to the theme of the day.
How do I participate?
You don’t have to subscribe to anything or announce what you’re doing, you just have to post your work on the appropriate day and tag us using @gallavichthings. It’s important that you tag us properly so that we can be sure to see your post and reblog it.
What types of works are accepted?
Any kind of original fan work is accepted, including but not limited to: fanart, fanfiction (no minimum words required), graphics, gifs and gifsets, videos, and fanmixes.
When can I start posting?
We’ll always make one initial post for each day, at 12am GMT (check here to see when that is in your time zone). After that, post away!
Can I still participate even if I don’t have a Tumblr account?
Absolutely! Just submit something here.
Can I post on Twitter or Instagram?
You can post anywhere you want! On Twitter and IG, we encourage you to use the hashtag #GW2021 and we’ll RT you (we do not have an IG account though, sorry). That being said, we do encourage you to post here as well, so it can be seen by more people (all gallavichthings reblogs get cross-posted to Twitter automatically anyway).
Can I post something that I’ve already posted before?
No, sorry. The works should have been created specifically for GW. You can, however, create a sequel or a different version of a previous work.
Can I post something that is not in English?
Of course. Just make sure that it is original. or that you have the original author’s permission (and, in that case, link to the original too).
Can I make R-rated works?
Yes, just please give any necessary warnings and tell us the rating at the very beginning of the post. If the post is visual (like a fanart or a gifset), it would be nice for you to also tag it #NSFW. Please remember that Tumblr now has stricter rules regarding that type of content, so if the post is really NSFW I’d suggest hosting it somewhere else and just posting a link to it.
Can I post something that’s AU?
Of course! There are specific days for AUs, but feel free to post them on other days as well as long as they fit the theme.
Can I post supernatural works, mpreg, or genderbends?
Yes! But if it’s a fic, please include it in the warnings.
Can I post more than one work?
Definitely! The more, the merrier. You can post as many works as you want, on as many days as you want, be it one post per day or ten on the same day. Anything goes!
Can I post on more than one day? Do I have to make something for each day?
Again, the more, the merrier! You can post on only one or all days if you wish!
Can I make one work that fits two or more themes?
Sure thing. I only ask that you post it on the day of the last theme included. For example, if you are posting a work that includes the theme from Day 1 and the theme from Day 4, post it on day 4 (just make sure to tell us that it includes both).
Can I write a multi-chaptered fanfiction?
Yes, and you don’t have to post everything either. When you do, just be sure to include either a masterpost, or the links to the previous chapters in the beginning.
Can I include other characters/pairings in my work?
Yes, as long as Gallavich is still the focus.
What if I can’t finish on time?
The Gallavich fandom is ALWAYS happy to see new fan material, so just post it when you’re done and tag us, ok? The same goes for people who can’t finish a work on the assigned theme day; you can still post it on a different day during GW, just make it clear which day it was made for.
Is there a contest?
No. It was an idea once, but most people didn’t want it, and felt a bit intimidated by it.

So why do you think Ian fell for Mickey? Especially after only being with him once or twice
Well, since you asked…
Let me caveat my answer by saying: when I make the claim that I think Ian was in love with Mickey pretty much from jump, I mean that he was as much in love with Mickey as he could be in his situation. When he and Mickey first do the do he’s a 15 year old kid whose only “real” relationship had been with his 30-something year old closeted, married boss. He’s as in love as any other 15 year old gay kid could be when he finally finds someone his own age, someone who he could connect with and relate to in a neighborhood where he could get knifed for just being who he is. Which is to say, a lot, but it’s a pretty superficial love at this stage. He does get hit hard though, and he falls quickly.

Ian’s in puppy dog love at this point and at 15 years old that feels very real, but the longer they keep it up, the deeper it gets. Over the years it evolves. This is not the love Ian has for Mickey now in season 10 after years of alternately being together and apart, after the endless shitstorms they endured. It’s not even as intense as the love Ian has for Mickey in season 3 that causes him to lose his shit when he learns of Mickey’s wedding which leads him to push Mickey to try to admit his own feelings before Mickey can go through with it. We know at this point Ian’s in love - he urges Mickey to say it and he drunkenly lets it slip to Lip. This type of love is all consuming and in this case, extremely destructive.
ETA again (please someone stop me from thinking about this): The fact that Ian was so in love with Mickey so early is the foundation of their relationship for years to come. It’s the reason why they keep coming back to each other. It was and is SO important to Ian and pushes him to make all the decisions he makes from that moment (when he falls in love) forward. I actually don’t think it’s remarkable or surprising Ian fell in love so quickly (when you’re young you fall in love easily and often) but I do find it pretty amazing that his love has endured.

I know I mentioned in the thread that I’m assuming prompted this ask that I believe the dugouts were so important for both Ian and Mickey because that’s when I think Mickey started falling in love with Ian, but it’s also when Ian realized he already was in love with Mickey. Before the whole Kash incident happened, I’d argue that they were really developing a friendship, as tentative and precarious as it probably was, but you don’t just run to your fuckbuddy when you’re emotionally compromised, nor do you drop whatever shit you’re clearly dealing with to comfort the dude you’re just fucking if you don’t have some type of feelings for them. I’m sorry, you just don’t. Ian cared. Mickey cared. Everything that happened after that only strengthened their feelings. Ian was just a bit quicker to get there, but when they’re at the dugouts their relationship shines. Boy has it so bad and there’s a look in that scene that makes it so, so obvious for me. Ian’s radiating love.

ETA: Season 2, for this reason is so important, but I’ll forever be on the bitter bus that all their development happens offscreen. Imagine how much they bonded that summer! This is the season where they fell in love - working together, hanging out, banging whenever they fucking wanted. It’s why Ian feels so bold to fight for what they have after Frank walks in on them. And it’s why it kills Mickey to break it off.
I think Ian and Mickey are perfect for each other because they’re so complementary. When we first meet Ian, he’s not innocent by any stretch of the imagination but he’s open, sweet, loving. You see this first and foremost with his family - he absolutely loves them, unconditionally. Even Monica, unfortunately, and to some degree, Frank. He has such a huge capacity to love that it’s so easy to believe that when he and Mickey start up, he just as easily falls for him. (Consequently, this is part of why Ian’s downfall is so tragic to me. He absolutely does not deserve the shitty hand he’s dealt. My poor Ian.) Mickey, on the other hand doesn’t have the same type of home life or family. I’d argue, and most Mickey fans would probably agree, that Mickey was starved for love. He clung to the first person to show him any kind of attention and care. But just because Ian loves so freely and Mickey accepts it so fervently, and it started when they were both so young and they’re both so flawed and fucked up doesn’t mean that it’s not real or any less beautiful.
ok so i had this idea in the tags of a post a longggg time ago 😭 so basically “i wish you would write a fic where” mickey and lip are unable to reach something they need up on a high shelf so tami comes in to grab it with no issues and hands it to them (because for some reason in this idea ian isn’t there to help and both lip and mickey refuse to grab something to climb up on to grab it 😌)
“who put the fuckin’ cereal so far back?” lip calls from the gallagher kitchen. “it never goes past the pencil line,” he mutters, and mickey enters in a pair of red plaid boxers, his torso covered by the same grey tank top he’s had for as long as lip has known him.
“fuck you say?” mickey nods towards lip, his back straighter than a board as he stalks over to the refrigerator where he’s standing in front on his tip-toes.
lip falls back onto his heels, “i can’t reach the goddamn tootie fruites,” he groans.
franny laughs from the living room, “you said tootie!” she exclaims, running into the kitchen and pointing at lip. she sticks her tongue out before jumping onto the couch and standing on the cushions, her butt against the headrest as she continues watching her show on TV.
“debbie give her coke or some shit?” mickey jokes, but lip doesn’t find his quip amusing. instead, he backs up from the refrigerator and puts his hand on the small of mickey’s back, pushing him towards the metal ice box. “i’m shorter than you, shithead, what makes you think i can reach the goddamn box?”
lip rolls his eyes and perches himself on the countertop. “i don’t fuckin’ know, mick.” mickey tries anyway, but his fingertips barely grip the edge.
“it’s a lost cause, man.”
just then, tami enters the gallagher house with fred in his stroller. her eyes instantly drift to the top of the refrigerator where she spots the box of tootie fruites. “thank god you guys have cereal, we’re all out at our house,” tami bumps mickey out of the way with her hip and grabs the box with ease, “lip, remind me to get more, will you?”
lip stares at tami dumbfounded as she pours a handful in front of fred. his mouth opens and closes a few times in quick succession as he tries to think of something to say, but, eventually, mickey speaks up. “yo, toss us the fuckin’ fruit toots, or whatever the fuck they’re called.”
“jesus,” tami grabs the box off of the kitchen table and tosses it across the island and mickey who fumbles and drops the box on the ground. lip snatches it then, and carries it upstairs with him before mickey has a chance to react.
“fuckin’ thief,” mickey mutters under his breath.
“yeah, and you aren’t one?” tami retorts, and mickey flips her off with a scowl.
