Stop Being So Cute
[Patreon][Store][Gumroad]
A monster. No, a God.
Due to popular demand, two new galaxy bats are up in my store. One is made of anti-pill fleece and the other of minky. The galaxy fabric is a printed cotton sateen. You can find them in my Etsy store.
Guillermo Del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities
In the new book Cabinet of Curiosities (out now via Harper), visionary director and filmmaker of Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy and Pacific Rim, Guillermo Del Toro presents — according to the volume’s subtitle — “My Notebooks, Collections, and Other Obsessions.” In other words, the books offers the rare opportunity for an all-access peek into the working methods of the acclaimed movie maker. The lavishly illustrated coffee-table book pulls from Del Toro’s notebooks, drawings, journals, behind-the-scenes photos, and more.
SPOTS AND STRIPES
Horned Man by: Greg Verhaeghe
Dammit, Larry. Larry’s finally done after giving me nothing but trouble. Didn’t bother to go back and fix / update the proportions of the youth version of him from June. Adult Larry’s given me enough headaches, youth Larry can stay as-is it looks fine.
Character-wise, Larry is probably my favourite of the Koopalings in terms of this reinterpretation, probably because I thought a lot about my younger brothers when building the basics of his personality. Larry, despite being the most powerful rank-wise of the seven, is still very much “the youngest”. Interacting with Larry as Bowser’s right-hand-man versus Larry as Larry is like speaking with two different people. The contrast between how he acts as a professional and how he acts as a brother is so stark that “which Larry are you dealing with” is a prominent in-joke amongst his elder siblings.
Larry is the free-spirit of the group. He spends most of his time traveling, both as a spy and for his own pleasure. He’s constantly in motion one way or another. He travels using Clarice, a one-person speed-ship built for him by Iggy. When home he constantly challenges people to games of all kinds. He is away from the castle 90% of the time, giving Ludwig plenty of time to attempt to wrest power away from him.
YEAH. Finished this last night, but it was 12am by the time I was done staring at it looking for flaws. MEGA BANETTE for my super cool awesome friend Jenna. Ghost Pokemon are the best.
And here is Iggy! From wandering doorstop to massive crocodilian piranha. Iggy is the tallest and heaviest of the seven Koopas. Assuming big Mario is 5’5”, Iggy would be approx. 14’5”, and Ludwig approx. 12’0”. Iggy and Ludwig generally don’t see eye-to-eye. Iggy knows Ludwig better than Ludwig does himself; on the other hand, Ludwig hardly knows or understands his younger brother. The imbalance deeply disturbs Ludwig for many reasons.
Have a zoom of his beautiful face:
What a lady killer.
Leaving you lot with this before blasting back off into the void to get back to commissions and studies. Ludwig, from tiny football to giant, toothy flower. Lighting’s a little all over the place. Iggy, Larry, and Lemmy will be next probably.
Ludwig still practices music in BTWP, but it’s something he abandons later once he starts to “hear” things. Wearing spiked cuffs is a statement of loyalty towards the Bowser Clan. Larry removes his whenever he travels outside the immediate clan grounds.
And with that I’m outta here for the next few weeks. In the meantime, ask me stuff about this nerdy project, and when I come back I’ll answer them with *art* and walls of text, because I know you all love walls of text. I’ll also answer everything else that is in my inbox that I’ve not been able to get to just yet.
Cheers!
I was going to wait until this was done to share, since I wanted to announce going back on break with Bowser’s completion. BUT, Bowser is proving to be a real pain in the butt to work with (his shell currently looks like someone vomited all over it), and I would like to get the heck out of here to get back to my studies.
So there you have it, folks! An early WIP of Bowser for Beyond the Warp Pipes. A wee Iggy Koopa has shown up as a size comparison. This design might change later, I’m not 100% sold with this take for Bowser. The colours are not final + etc. The little doodles on the right side are from Friday’s Stream shenanigans. Anyways, I’m taking off to continue my internet break; Tumblr encourages some rather bad habits and the atmosphere is just not very good to be a part of. Regardless, I’ll pop in to upload and take commissions, and sometimes share personal stuff like this! Streams will still run every Friday. I’ll otherwise be pretty quiet. My contacts are still linked on the sidebar should you need / want to get in touch!
See you all soon.
THE NINE CHOIRS OF HEAVEN. An info-graphic for my editorial class and god am I thankful it’s done. Way too much went into this than what I had time for, but hey… I actually kind of like it?
Now excuse me, I must return to my fashion major lifestyle and go sew a coat u_u
EDIT: Re-uploaded with easier viewing!

Wang Ruilin’s Whimsical, Surreal Animal Sculptures
by Eva Recinos Posted on October 23, 2014
Whimsy, humor and fantasy collide in the sculpture of Beijing artist Wang Ruilin. Some pieces are realistic reproductions of animals’ bodies while others manipulate these bodies to create an unexpected effects. His “Horse Play” series feel especially humorous. The horses have expressive eyes and tuck in their necks almost petulantly. In one piece, horses pile on top of each other into a pyramid; at the top a horse stands with his head cocked to one side. Wang highlights each flesh fold on these horses, making their sculptural bodies seem lively.
Wang’s “Dreams” series depicts other animal bodies, some with natural environments atop their backs or torsos. There is a decidedly surreal twist to these pieces. In one, mountains sit atop fluffy clouds perched on deer antlers. The deer’s heads gracefully touch to create this mysterious landscape. In another piece, a whale’s back holds what looks like a small ocean. Small pieces of a glacier float in its blue water, alluding to the changes the Earth is currently experiencing as climate change takes its course. These animals share something in common: they seem to harbor secrets we can’t quite unlock.
