Folks have got to understand that they probably aren't messed up by some Secret Big Trauma that they just can't remember; but rather by a million tiny microtraumas that they do mostly remember but don't even register as traumatic because nobody actually understood that these things would cause trauma, much less stack on each other over the years.

Blaming abuse victims for not leaving their abusers "sooner" is insidious.

A major component of an abusive relationship is power, as in, the abuser has all of it and the abused has none. And a significant abuse tactic is isolation, in which the abused is forced to be dependent upon the abuser and cut off from the rest of the world, with no resources and no alternative options.

This is especially true for child abuse victims who have no other family members to step in, no other adults in their lives whom they can turn to.

Claiming that the concept of cultural appropriation is just conservative xenophobia with a progressive paint job is like claiming that consent culture is just conservative slut shaming with a progressive paint job.

Obviously, this isn't true. The difference between the concept of cultural appropriation and conservative xenophobia is that the concept of cultural appropriation is based around the idea that consent and boundaries matter.

Pillaging people's stuff does not promote social harmony. Stealing is not welcoming. Telling marginalized people they're wrong about what boundaries they're allowed to set is in fact hostile behavior.
