"he's trying to fuck the elf" is a great voice acting exercise. you can try out so many different tones and inflections and it's fun every time.

Something I see getting overlooked a lot when discussing queercoding in historical media is that in many cases it's not evidence that the writers secretly shipped it; it was aimed at straight dudes specifically to freak them out. Depicting a male villain as sexually interested in a male hero reads as horror to the cishet male audience. Like, Venom didn't spend years and years being blatantly characterised as Spider-Man's creepy stalker ex because Marvel's writers were all closeted yaoi fans. That was meant to be scary – which of course doesn't mean you can't read it differently, but don't give them credit they don't deserve!
they should have named the "friday the 13th" sequels "friday the 14th", "friday the 15th", "friday the 16th", etc. so eventually everyone would be scared Every Day

small town diner waitress voice: Omelas? Oh, oh no, easy mistake, you're in oh - MAY - las right now, with an A. Plenty' people get the name mixed up. Nope, no utopia here, just our small little town. *face gets really grim* We do still.. Okay well we do still have a kid that we... I mean it isn't working but- well- You know. It- It's fine. I'm sure it'll start working soon.
He needs to hunted for sport
Every now and then I mention this, but if you have Netflix you can watch "School of Chocolate", where he teaches people how to do this kind of thing. You get to see him carefully explain how to do it and show the process, and then you get to watch a bunch of people figure it out and try to learn stuff that is, objectively, quite difficult. High-level pastry chefs fully shocked out of their skins at the demos and struggling through the learning process.
From these videos it is sometimes easy to think that either it's all an editing trick or that it's magic, but that show will show you how it is done, and how hard it is, and how incredibly, incredibly good at it he is. And he's a good teacher, and kind. It's really lovely.
This is yet another thing I thought Pratchett had made up but turned out to be totally real.
Unrelated but any time someone mentions clown makeup I'm reminded of how highly successful stage magician Penn Jillette almost flunked out of clown college and had to take remedial clown makeup classes.
My father was a magician and a clown. When he died, we cleared out his old clotehs and there was his clown suit.
"Oh I'll take this down to the charity shop" said my mother, missing hte part where no sane person is going to wear a clown suit.
"Nah" said I, "Have them dress him in it when they cremate him."
There was a pause and my throw-away joke started to slowly solidify into 'Yeah let's do that'.
A discussion was had with the mortician who had a bit of a worry that the costume would involve giant clown shoes which would prevent the coffin closing.
Luckily it wasn't that sort of outfit.
I told this to my dear friend who immediately envisaged someone trying to close a coffin onto a dead clown, only to have the big red nose go *Sad honk* every time there was an attempt to close the lid.
The awful hilarity rendered her incapable of standing.
The poor mortician can't figure out why it still won't close, and has to remove 5 dead clowns from the coffin before it finally shuts.
I’m convinced trickster deities and creatures exist, and that this is their typical profession.
why would a trickster deity become a mortician
Clown.
Never call me that again or I'll squirt you with my flower and honk my nose and I'll blow the house down
probably speaks to something unwell in the collective tumblr psyche that those absurdly bleak bad luck brian memes are the only survivors of, like, an entire genre of different advice animal image macros.

i feel like we don’t talk about things like this enough
Moroccan architecture (specifically, amazigh from Chefchaouen)
Post-colonial Algerian architecture (Algiers and Constantine):
Mozabite architecture (from Ghardaia, Algeria):
MAGA boomers SHOCKED by 20y/o commie speaking fluent hog
Hog 201 for anyone interested in trying this:
Bodily autonomy (like abortion, anti draft, etc) -> “The government shouldn’t be able to force anything on my body I don’t want.”
Anti surveillance -> “I don’t trust big government/big tech (big brother if you’re feeling frisky) with the ability to spy on me and my family.”
Immigration -> “Next to all of us immigrated at some point, I don’t see why the elites get to decide who’s allowed to be where. What’s to stop them coming for me?”
Climate Change -> “Big oil shouldn’t get to determine whether or not I get to go places. I don’t want to be dependent on some big business to survive.”
State Violence -> “I don’t want the goddamn secret police breathing down my neck! I trust my community a whole hell of a lot more to help me than I do the state!”
The vast majority of conservatives think of themselves as underdogs being repressed by the government/the elite, and they value personal freedom (specifically their personal freedom, they don’t care about other people). The will almost always agree with leftist points if you can find a way to blame the problem on their vague enemies (useful, since rich people are the root of most problems), and tie it back to their ability to say fuck everyone else. NEVER appeal to science, theory, logic, or human goodness. Make it seem as if you are a paranoid lunatic who trusts no one. They love it.
#you need to tailor your arguments to people's existing values and priorities if you want to convince them #the flip side is that it's every bit as easy to tailor conservative arguments to convince a leftist audience #so don't get smug #you're not immune to this either <- prev extremely true
oh my god the slot machine company says i have to keep putting coins in their machine or Im Gonna Get Left Behind. thats so scary. and it has to be true because they know more about slot machines than i do

I think "fuck you, I hate your work and I will do it myself and I will do it better" is a really funny and epic sentiment. i started publishing poetry because an ex boyfriend of mine was publishing really ass poetry in a bunch of journals and I was like "Jesus christ, this is garbage, I could do that, and I could do it better." now I have a page in the Academy of American Poets and I've published a full length collection and his website says "former poet." You should win by succeeding way harder than they do. Spite is a legitimate energy source.
there's a really fun balance when you know someone has a crush on you where you can tease them for having a crush on you without letting them know you know they have a crush on you. this only works because people who have crushes will analyze everything you say but not very well. anyway, i love playing with my food.
Gosh, that's so perfect. Your friend is actually the only one who is engaging with this post correctly. Supersedes my original intent, even. Sorry, I bow to her wisdom here. Tell your friend I hope she's having fun!
Two dudes in my group chat have been playing league & slowly but surely have shifted from saying "wanna play league of legends" to "wanna play some geego legends". At this point their average post is just @ing the other and going "geegogagand?" and I feel insane
What is going on
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a slapping,
As of some one gently flapping, flapping at my chamber door.
“’Tis some fairy,” I muttered, “slapping at my chamber door—
Only this and nothing more.”
Quoth the walrus, "Are you sure?"
had to draw it
The fact that the narrator is a rabbit living in a house totally recontextualises the chill around the fairy
I was too busy laughing to take a picture but my son answered the door last night ready for an adventure 😭😭😭
IT HAPPENED AGAINNN
