Kairos
Play not your coy games with me, my dear,
For the night is as cold as it is young,
And like the warmth from our bodies,
With age, quickly fades to nothing before the morn.
As the hours decay
Seconds pass,
Our earthly forms wither like night blooming flowers.
Like a Cereus, you're in bloom and ripe with sweet scents,
Succulent contours of flesh smile coquettishly
From beneath layers of satin and silk,
Milk white skin, so soft under my fingertips
Like springtime kisses hung from almond and cherry.
But think not for a passing second
My dear, that this night will forever last,
For Eos is already reaching with her rosy fingers,
A gossamer petal, plucked for each moment passed.
Still your feldspar eyes glisten in the candlelight,
Like a moonlit ocean afire with slithering scars.
What enchantments must they possess? To ensnare my soul,
Through my eyes, skin, heart, and heaving lungs;
Were I the ancient towers of Ilium, upon your gaze
I would surely become naught but ashes.
With carnelian lips carved into poisonous pout,
Poised like sundew, set to entangle mine
Whilst our fingers meet, oak branches entwine.
Kiss me,
And let me taste the lust on your tongue,
The venom that cascades down your lips
Like wine made from the sweetest woodland berries,
Full of toxins to still a beating heart,
And freeze a moment forever.
Alas, kisses no matter how wonderfully toxic and bountiful,
Could ever still the heart of an hour glass,
And it seems to me, as our skin melds together,
The cruel sands pour and steadily increase,
As morning draws ever near.
For you, I would fire upon the sun with arrows of iron and ice,
Melt the flowing sands that do steal away our time to glass,
And bring to you an ashen rose,
Taken from the hand of Eos herself,
Condemned for crimes against passion and love.
But just as Marvell wrote before me in his famous plight,
We cannot run, nor hide from our fate,
For Time will always find us, clinging to tonight.
So for now, let us drink and enjoy while we can,
And remember this night - the night from Time we ran.
