The African wolf (Canis lupaster), also known as the African golden wolf, is a canine species native to North, West, and East Africa, previously misclassified as a golden jackal. It's a medium-sized canid, smaller than a gray wolf but larger than a jackal, with a yellowish-gray coat, long muzzle, and ears, and is omnivorous, eating small mammals, invertebrates, fruit, and carrion. They are monogamous, territorial, and live in family groups, with offspring helping raise younger pups.
