When I asked him for his number to text him the image once developed, he told me he had just been robbed yesterday, but could give me his Facebook info. We chatted a bit and I learned he is studying to become a pastor but also hopes to keep working in his rap.

This portrait is the first one I’ve taken in medium format film. Also the first portrait of a stranger I’ve taken since the pandemic started; a year ago now. The feeling I get from these interactions is still the same. Anxious and excited to momentarily enter the storyline of someone.
