Today we're launching a new two-part project for Women Creators of Youtube, which is- (1) watch, like and comment on the videos in the current week's playlist of Women Creators on Youtube, and (2) submit your own video for next week's playlist.

What is “Women Creators of Youtube?”

Hello and welcome! WCoY or just WoY is a...movement? I guess you’d call it? Spurred by the #WomenonYoutube workshop panel at Vidcon 2015, incited by the #WomenonYoutube twitter hashtag, then spawning various social media pages for further outreach and a more communal feel, our goals here are manifold, but mainly center around this: highlighting and supporting women creators of Youtube and other online creative platforms, making women’s presence more known on those platforms, and hopefully doing what we can to help diversify and expand what the “top tier Youtubers” have to offer. All are welcome (regardless of gender or anything else!) all we ask is that you come with a positive and supportive attitude--we’re here to help each other, not just post links to our own stuff then ditch, or to leave hateful comments on others’ content. Harrassment and bullying will not be tolerated, there’s enough of that junk online already.

“Gender in Gaming” panel clip from Vidcon 2015 - Felicia Day, Trisha Hershberger, LDShadowLady, Aureylian

Unfortunately I was so engaged in the ‪#‎womenonyoutube‬ workshop panel that I didn't think to record any of it (plus the format of the groups would have been hard to record) but I did get this clip from the "Gender in Gaming" panel featuring Felicia Day and others discussing issues we have had to face being in the "minority" of online gamers (not really, but that's how we're treated) and some positive ways on dealing with rude comments. It was a really good panel overall, I'm hoping someone else got the whole thing on video so I can link to it. What do you ladies think about this issue? Are you gamers, and if so, do you also have problems with dealing with strangers online? Maybe if there's enough of us, we could start making "Women of Youtube" or "Women Creators" guilds and whatnot in game! tongue emoticon
