Monday, January 23: Kink Shaming: Just Don't is from 2-4 pm in BECS! Carleton Munch from 9pm - 11pm at Oliver's Pub & Patio Tuesday Whip It Good 2-4pm Intro to Kink and Power Play! Wednesday: Writing Kink will be in BECS from 2-4 pm! Thursday: We are hosting a Queering Kink discussion with the CUSA Gender and Sexuality Resource Centre! 12-2 pm in BECS! There will also be a performance called Sky Woman: A storytelling performance by Dr. Kahente Horn-Miller from 6-9 pm as part of RISE! Friday: As part of CUSA Mawandoseg Centre RISE programming there'sBurlesque Workshop with Pemmican Milkshake January 27 from 1-3 pm! As we enter the holiday season and many of us return to our loved ones whom we haven't seen in a while, please remember to use weight neutral comments. You don't know what someone is going through, so don't assume wight gain/loss is a good thing!

Instead:

- Ask how they are feeling! "Hey, how are you holding up?" - Tell them how glad you are to see them! "Wow, I am so glad we made time to see each other!" - Comment on something they have control over! "That hair colour looks AMAZING on you!"

960 soldiers reported being sexually assaulted in the past year

About 960 regular military members, or some 1.7 per cent of the regular force, have reported they were sexually assaulted in the past year, after the launch of a program designed to eliminate misconduct in the military, a new survey by Statistics Canada has found.

American Horror Story's own Jamie Brewer is coming to CarletonU! (This is not a false alarm!!)

Doors will open at 7:30pm, show starts at 8:00pm and yep, FREE ADMISSION ( !!!!!!!! ) Jamie will be discussing American Horror Story and disability representation in the media. After a brief intermission, the actress will be opening up to the audience for a Q&A session. The Carleton Disability Awareness Centre, CUSA, RRRA and CAB are so excited to see you all there, in the Res Commons Conference Rooms! *Admission will be based on a first-come-first-serve basis. We expect a full house so get there early to grab your seats!

A note on Backlash

Don't tell me that the threats I'm receiving as a woman organizer for the Women's Only Gym Hour campaign are a result of timing, wording or because of the American election. Sexism, racism, Islamophobia and hate have existed long before Trump declared his bid for the presidency. This is not the first time a woman has received a threat of rape for speaking out against the patriarchy or the status quo. Unfortunately, it will also not be the last time I receive one myself.

I am not going to pretend it doesn't bother me, but I will say that I believe in this campaign. When I look at the women thanking me for bringing this topic up, I know it is worth it.

To my friends who are scared of the backlash, please come talk to me. You do not have to go through this alone. We can work through it together. I will stand by you as you speak your mind. I will walk with you through the halls. You do not have to be afraid to speak you mind. I know it is terrifying to see the comments on Facebook or in your inbox, but remember, we stand in solidarity with each other.

I will not let anyone justify the hate I receive. Hate has always been present in our society, do not fool yourself into believing that this is new. But understand that this is why I do what I do.

As Shannon Alder said, “You will face your greatest opposition when you are closest to your biggest miracle.”
