ok i must rant about the new SOTM VR mode. SOTM was originally designed as a VR game, then they changed it to a normal PC game cos not many people own a VR headset (good play on their part) but promised to still release the VR version sometime after the PC one. 10 months after the PC version launched we get what seems a half baked, bare minimum VR port which is available only on the PSVR (which nobody has). it really seems they rushed this out with no testing or quality control whatsoever because of how many bugs people have been seeing. there even is an official list of pretty major bugs on steelwool's website that they thought would be ok to release the game with. some are disappointed there is not any new content, which i fully expected so i don't care, but they actually removed content (like certain cutscenes or objects, or they made certain cutscenes really unpleasant in VR by locking your camera). graphically it also doesn't align with what was shown in the trailer which is another classic steelwool move. from screenshots and clips i've seen, the UI looks like they just copy pasted the UI from flat mode and you just kind of have to deal with it.
to me all of this is really disappointing because i genuinely enjoyed SOTM and i became a huge defender of steelwool. unfortunately it seems like they are back to their old selves. from the build number people figured out that the PSVR version was built 4 days before release, which aligns with the rushed feel of the game. especially for a game that was originally developed for VR, and which still retained many elements that were clearly designed for VR, it seems baffling to me they fumbled the VR port like this. one can only hope all this low effort is because they are actually working on a big brand new fnaf game in the background so they didn't have much resources to properly flesh out the VR port of SOTM. but even if that was the case, i still don't think it was ok for them to release it in this state. all they needed to do was to make a simple X.com post about how the port needs a little more time in the oven and everyone would be fine with it. but oh well communication is hard i guess. one could joke that them releasing for PSVR first is a form of damage control cos not many people will get to experience this buggy port and by the time it releases for PC it will be fine but i'm highly skeptical. i'm just sort of done with steelwool (and not just them but the entire fnaf franchise) releasing half-assed BS and expecting people to be fine with it. it genuinely feels like nobody is in charge and the series is stumbling from project to project just making shit so it looks like we are moving somewhere (the second fnaf movie is a great example or the new character encyclopedia)
