Did the guy in the blue shirt just throw the guy with the black shirt off a bridge for respecting women???
No, the guy in the black shirt willingly jumped off the bridge to go get the love letter, because he respect women that much.
when you drink yo respect women juice

So what the hell is up with GEN:Lock
I really love mechas and sci-fi anime, its a staple of my content diet for years so when GEN:Lock was announced I was excited but considering how poorly written RWBY has been I was very concerned that it would share that unfortunate trait. Now I’m not gonna be focusing on characters, although I may make a separate post on how I feel like some changes would make things go far smoother and better instead I want to solely focus on world building and the setting.
So out of the gate, we have our standard two factions warring for supremacy of Earth, it's a simple formula but it works, however, it isn’t working here because the show hasn’t told us why we should care on who wins or loses. We have the assumingly good guys, the Polity which I assume are the democracies and good of the people style faction and then there's the union which seems to be generic bad authoritarians. Now I can understand the want to not lose to the invaders as a story goes but here's the thing on Mecha/sci-fi animes that this is going on, they are usually written by a historical or military point of view, meaning that the politics dictate the actions and there is a sense of strategy and resource management. That sense of what's happening seems to be missing in GEN:Lock, we are told that the Polity that has been waging a defensive war for 5 years is gonna be pushed off of the North American Continent in 6 months. The furthest point the Union is at is around the midwest past Detroit going down.so if this massive push is gonna suddenly destroy the Polity Defensive network why aren’t they talking about capitulating or surrendering? The fact that they rather wage a battle that is gonna cover about 2000 miles and lose, probably having a massive sum of human life lost in the process than surrender. And here is why i have my problem with GEN:Lock, we don’t know the Union well enough to understand why bitter lost is better than a surrender saving millions. This introduction of a 6-month countdown doesn’t make sense to me if it's them getting pushed off the continent. I understand that the Polity is more than just the N.America but the United States is deemed one of the hardest territories to invade and hold and yet it seems that the Union is doing just fine. Speaking of we don’t even have a world map depicting where the Union and Polity territories are at. From the few references we have we seemingly have the middle east as Union territory and either Eastern Bloc Europe or Russia is under occupation and yet Japanese troops are fighting them as well and I’m gonna assume Japan is under the same restrictions as of now meaning the Union is hitting Japanese soil and yet somehow they have the logistics, supplies, and manpower to invade New York City and take massive gains in N. America right after? There’s no Stalingrad style battle where insurgents slowly grind away at Union control? I understand they have their nanomachine weapons but still it's hard to use such weapons when its one person sneaking a bomb into a munitions depot. So this brings me back to my original problem, who or what is the Union. The fact they haven’t answered this question is alarming to me that storytelling hasn’t been matured before given the green light.
Now I’m not saying that they can’t make a plausible answer that can explain everything. For example the two answers that I would like to hear is either A) the union is a combination of Alien and Human governments trying to take over, explaining their rapid gains and advance weapons or B)The Union is a technocratic state that wishes to make people more like machines which again can explain a lot of their impressive strategies, a lot of problems go away when you eliminate the human element. Both of these can explain the fight and die stance the Polity seems to have against Union control. Honestly, i would love it to be B, this could be a really fun obsession that forms as the Union becomes desperate to steal the Gen:lock technology because it's literally the end goal of their civilization to put the Human mind in a machine body.
Overall they need to make the union more visible in the sense of who and what they are and to actually make the plot revolve more on the situation of the war rather than the characters reacting to things. Side note: I wrote this quickly and I can probably clean this entire thing up better but I just want to make a dumb rant to get this off my chest.

Meet the Contestants
“Let’s meet the contestants!” said Alex Trebek. “First is Michael Losh, an attorney from San Francisco. What’s this about you meeting Adam Sandler in an elevator?” “I met Adam Sandler in an elevator.” “I’ll bet that was a fun encounter.” “It was okay. It was a hospital elevator and we were both going to the morgue to identify a body.” “…well that sounds like one crazy night, like Eight Crazy Nights! His Jewish movie!” “It was during the day.” “Our next contestant is Angela Bunol, a radio DJ from Toronto. Angela, I’ve heard you had quite an experience with a red panda!” “What? Who told you that? No.” “My producer said that-” “-he’s lying. He’s a liar.” “It’s a she.” “He’s even lying about his gender.” “Our final contestant and returning champion is Brian Pruth, a doctor from Topeka. Alex, it says here you also had a run in with Adam Sandler?” “Yes.” “Now I bet that was something.” “It was in the morgue with that other guy. I thought he looked familiar.” “For the love of God! These are supposed to be lighthearted stories, people! Like, ‘I got lost in Paris and had to ask a mime for directions.’ Things like that!” “Oh, that mime thing happened to me,” all three contestants said at once. “Wow.” The three then added, “But the mime turned out to be Adam Sandler and he non-verbally told me someone close to him had just died.” “Jesus! Let’s just get back to the game. Brian, you have control of the board.” “I’ll take, Adam Sandler’s Dead Friends & Relatives for 800.” “You’re lucky that’s an actual category, buddy!”
