I’ve decided to not use tumblr anymore. I don’t think I’m actually going to delete this account because that somehow feels like too big of a commitment, plus there are some things I might want to look back on, but I’m not going to be posting anything or looking at anything on this website anymore.
I’ll probably check a couple more times in the next two days so if anyone wants to say anything I will possible see it and respond.

We gotta distinguish between things that are devalued/considered lesser because they’re associated with women, and things that are associated with women because they’re actually degrading. For example sewing is a hugely useful skill that is undervalued because over centuries it has come to be associated with women, whereas things like tight dresses and high heels are designated as things for women because they are actually degrading.

Basically, yeah. That’s kind of the point – you always have to look back on yourself and be mortified and resolve to be better. Shit, the stuff I said just five YEARS ago (and I’m almost 33) makes me cringe like a motherfucker. Burn in mortification. Rise from the ashes and be better. Lather, rinse, repeat for the rest of your life.
This is why purity culture doesn’t work!!! We’re all shit! We can all grow and do better!
Honestly, if you look back and are mortified? That just means you’re in a different place than you were back then. You’ve grown, and you’ve stepped forward. If you’re embarrassed or ashamed of things you did in the past, good. It’s most likely a sign that you’ve changed for the better.

“Oscar-winning actress Natalie Portman told the crowd at Saturday’s Women’s March in downtown Los Angeles that she experienced what she calls “sexual terrorism” as a 13-year-old after the release of the film The Professional.
Portman described her pride and excitement in releasing the film, only to encounter sexually explicit messages both directed toward her and made about her.
”I excitedly opened my first fan mail to read a rape fantasy that a man had written me,” she recalled. “A countdown was started on my local radio show to my 18th birthday, euphemistically the date that I would be legal to sleep with. Movie reviewers talked about my budding breasts in reviews.”
The experience, she said, changed the way she expressed herself publicly, in order to limit the ways she could be objectified by others.
”I understood very quickly, even as a 13-year-old, that if I were to express myself sexually, I would feel unsafe,” she said. “And that men would feel entitled to discuss and objectify my body to my great discomfort. So I quickly adjusted my behavior. I rejected any role that even had a kissing scene and talked about that choice deliberately in interviews. I emphasized how bookish I was and how serious I was. And I cultivated an elegant way of dressing. I built a reputation for basically being prudish, conservative, nerdy, serious, in an attempt to feel that my body was safe and that my voice would be listened to.”

I finished the mascot for my school’s lgbt group!
Today my seven year old cousin said, in reference to the subject of pirates:
“It’s one of my distant likes. I still really like it when it comes up.”
And I just had to record it somewhere because I think it’s such a wise and simple way of expressing an important concept. Sometimes I feel like I’m neglecting an interest if I don’t do anything about it for a long period of time, like I can’t really say I like it if I don’t keep it up, but no, it’s just… it’s a distant like. That’s its own thing now.
She gets philosophical when in fancy dress, apparently.
Also it could be nice to think of distant likes like planets/natural satellites (orbiting you and occasionally coming back close just to get you obsessed with the like again)
