A lot of photographs are posted online under the titles of ‘breath-taking’ ‘phenomenal’ ‘awesome’ and so on an so forth. Every now and then those images hold up. 

Pulitzer Prize winning photographer Vincent Laforet’s aerial photographs of New York went viral earlier this year. Suspended 7,500ft above the sprawling metropolis the shots show New York as a scale model town.

The Hugh Lane Gallery is running an exhibtion of First World War lithographs entitled: Efforts and Ideals: Prints of the First World War.

The exhibition looks at a collection of 66 lithographs from 18 artists (including Christopher Wynne Nevinson and  William Rothenstein) that were commissioned by the British War Office to revive waning public interest in ‘The Great War’.

The exhibition runs until February 22nd and entry is free. You can find more information here.

Opening the week before last in the RHA, Erris by Amelia Stein is a look at human interation with the landscape of rural Ireland. The work comprises of images of County Mayo and the impact that local residents have had on the landscape and the landscape on the local people.

Using 3D digital rendering software, Libya based, Mahmoud Jouini creates these abstract mini-worlds that alternate between vast landscapes and built up metropolises.

It does take a few double takes to realise that these works are, in basic terms, simply columns or varying height and colour.

We're all bibliophiles here at Wooden Peg, be it photography and art books or just books in general. As such one of our favourite places in Dublin is the Chester Beatty Library in Dublin Castle. They an A-Z exhibition on featuring the curator's favourite curios.

Friday 23rd January  is the last day of Block T's 'Beginning and End of The World' Exhibition. The show features Philip Napier, Maurice Gobert, Rudolf Samokejl and Joost Elschot.

The show is open until 7pm this evening and is only a stone's throw from the Smithfield luas stop. More details can be found here.

It’s January so that means it’s Turner month in The National Gallery of Ireland. Comprising mostly of early topographical drawings, the work was bequeath to the gallery by Henry Vaughan at the end of the 19th Century. Vaughan stipulated that the work should be shown in January as this represented the best light for the work. So you've got two weeks before you've to wait until 2016! Tonight sees the opening of the latest Black Church Print Studio exhibition featuring BANK founder John Russell. Entitled ETON the performance and print pieces looks at the English private school of the same name, which has produced 19 Prime Ministers of England.

The exhibition is on in The Library Project in Temple Bar and runs until 31st January 2015, more details here.

Grape Magazine shed light on the excellent Polish photographer Lukasz Wierzbowski.

Polish photographer Lukasz Wierzbowski creates a universe where the fine lines between the real and the not so real are crossed, opening way to a brand new sequin covered world. The apathetically posed girls interacting strangely to Lukasz’s everyday settings...
