This is James Ashcroft Noble, a Lancashire journalist, newspaper editor, critic - and mentor to EDWARD THOMAS, who dedicated his first book to Noble, who may have received his copy on his deathbed. Noble's daughter Helen married Edward Thomas and, much later, provided an invaluable account of their marriage.
